Abstract

AbstractReligious affiliation and cultural diversity has become potential sources of social conflicts in Indonesia. As almost every existing religion has a truth claim, all of it’s believers fell obliged to proclaim religious teachings and values in social and national life. Viewed in this context , the biggest problem in Indonesia today is “ how theology of existing religions define themselves among other religions . This article is aimed at exploring the concept of “Tasamuh / the principle of tolerance” as one of the theological basis of the religious consciousness in Islam. The concept of tolerance in Islam is so simple and rational. Islam requires its followers to establish strict limits in the context of faith, while maintaining respect for other’s rights, individually, socially and religiously. Such an obligation is made to keep its followers not to get stuck on syncretism.AbstrakKeragaman kepenganutan agama dan budaya yang dimiliki Indonesia bisa menjadi bencana yang mengandung potensi konflik. Sebagai kenyataan sosial, pluralitas agama ini tak jarang menjadi problem, dimana agama di satu sisi dianggap sebagai hak pribadi yang otonom, namun di sisi lain hak ini memiliki implikasi sosial yang kompleks dalam kehidupan masyarakat. Masing-masing penganut agama meyakini bahwa ajaran dan nilai-nilai yang dianutnya (claim of truth) harus diwartakan dalam kehidupan bermasyarakat dan berbangsa. Dalam konteks ini, agama seringkali menjadi potensi konflik dalam kehidupan masyarakat. Oleh karena itu, yang menjadi problem paling besar dalam kehidupan beragama dewasa ini adalah “bagaimana teologi dari suatu agama mendefinisikan diri di tengah agama-agama lain. Tulisan ini ingin menggali basis kesadaran teologis dalam beragama yang salah satunya didasarkan atas prinsip toleransi (tasa>muh}). Toleransi dalam kehidupan keagamaan yang ditawarkan oleh Islam begitu sederhana dan rasional. Islam mewajibkan para pemeluknya membangun batas yang tegas dalam hal akidah dan kepercayaan, sambil tetap menjaga prinsip penghargaan atas keberadaan para pemeluk agama lain dan menjaga hak-hak mereka sebagai pribadi dan anggota masyarakat. Pembatasan yang tegas dalam hal akidah atau kepercayaan ini merupakan upaya Islam untuk menjaga para pemeluknya agar tidak terjebak pada sinkretisme.

Abstract

Scientific literacy is the ability to use scientific knowledge, identify problems, and draw conclusions based on evidence, in order to understand and make decisions about nature and changes that occur in nature as a result of human activity. This study aims to determine the development of physics teacher candidates’ scientific literacy. This is important to prepare the physics teachers in the future. The method used was ex-post facto. The subjects of this research were all students of physics education Department of UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung from the first to the last semester. The data collection used was essayed tests which contained the context of science, the content of science, the process of science, and the attitude of science. Data analysis was done qualitatively and quantitatively. Based on the results of this study, it indicates that the scientific literacy ability possessed by physics teacher candidate students experiencing a continuous development in terms of the context of science, science content, the process of science, and attitude to science. The result of this research may be applied by the Physics Department to make a decision or rule on how to improve the physics student’ literacy level

Abstract

This article aims to discuss comprehensively the concept of tolerance in Islam later thought in such a way that the concept can be applied operationally in Islamic educational institutions such as madrassas, Islamic boarding schools and colleges. Methods and approaches used to address this issue are philosophical (phenomenological) and the sociology of education, one of which is the theory of inclusivism Mircea Eliade. In Islam, different thoughts, tribes, and even religion (adherents) refer to fitrah and sunnatullāh of God‟s will. For this reason, then, tasāmuh (tolerance) becomes an important doctrine in every religion treatise, including in Islamic education system i.e; 1) to have responsive toward modernization which has been existed in general school institutions under Ministry of Education; 2) to develop sensitive character toward the change through apporiate learning strtategy and developing children psycho-social condition, modernizing learning facilities, environment, and other supporting factors including the involevement of parents, government, society and other education stakeholder; 3) to implement a model to strengthen inclusive Islamic education system which is opened, dialogic, and student-centered; 4) to bear a strong and tough human reseource with high tolerance who will act to occupy and create new civilization emphasizing on religion, spritual and humanism values; 5) to develop networking and corporation both national and international to expand informationn access, funding, and other international supports.

Abstract

Basically as religious beings, human want to live for peace. One result of observations on religious studies shows that Islam as a religion uphold peace and harmony in high esteem. Islam offers the concept of tolerance in diversity, that is  tasamuh (tolerance), because it teaches Mouslems the tenets of rahmat (love), hikmat (wisdom), maslahat ammat (universal benefit) and adl (Justice). The concept of tolerance in this context is viewed from many aspects—theology, sociology and cultural studies. Human beings should accept the facts of diversity including that of religions with tolerance that is called religious pluralism. In fact, religious dialogue as a part of tolerance attitude could create harmony in community. For example, both Moslems and non Moslems as citizens of Madinah were protected from their enemy by Muhammad Saw as God’s Messenger, so a Madinah Charter was created.

Abstract

Tulisan ini untuk memahami realitas kehidupan beragama di Indonesia dalam hubungannya dengan proses pendidikan Islam.  Masyarakat Indonesia adalah heterogen, plural, baik dari sisi etnis, budaya, dan kepenganutan agama. Keragaman dalam menganut agama cenderung eksklusif, karena masing-masing memiliki keyakinan bahwa kebenaran agamanyalah yang paling benar (truth claim). Keharusan bertoleransi didengungkan dimana-mana, bahkan sudah menjadi kebijakan pemerintah melalui program kerukunan antar umat beragama.  Sebagai muslim yang mayoritas, seringkali menjadi sasaran tuduhan “intoleran”.  Islam memiliki doktrin tentang toleransi, sebagaimana ditunjukkan dalam tulisan sederhana ini.  Doktrin toleransi ini perlu ditanamkan sejak usia dini, untuk menumbuhkan kesadaran bertoleransi. Toleransi adalah perilaku yang melekat dalam kepribadian setiap orang. Untuk menumbuhkan “perilaku” toleran ini, maka salah satunya melalui proses pendidikan agama Islam. Pendidikan menjadi representasi peradaban suatu masyarakat atau bangsa. Dalam konteks ini, masyarakat yang damai, aman, terbuka, saling menghargai dan menghormati perbedaan, sebagai bagian dari keberhasilan pendidikan dalam mencetak pribadi yang toleran dan beradab.
