Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the effect of ethanol extract of curry leaves (Murraya koenigii L.) on blood glucose levels in alloxan diabetic mice (Mus musculus). The diabetic conditions were made by giving alloxan 75 mg/kg body weight (BW) and the hypoglycemic effects of extract of curry leaves given with various doses.   This study used 24 male mice strain Balb/c in four groups of treatment with six replications, namely the negative control group, the ethanol extract of curry leaf tree 50% mL/10g body weight group, 70% mL/10g body weight group and 90% mL/10g body weight group. The treatment was given orally by using a gastric sonde for 14 days. Blood samples were taken through the sinus caudalis using a scissors. Blood glucose level was measured at 1st , the 8th and the 24th of treatment using blood glucose test strips and Nesco® Multicheck apparatus. Blood glucose data were analyzed by one way ANOVA (Analysis of Variants) and followed by Tuckey test at significance level of 5%. The result showed that treatment of ethanol extract of curry leaves (Murraya koenigii) at various doses significantly affected the decrease on blood glucose levels of mice (Mus musculus) alloxan diabetic.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to determine the effect of life feeds on the growth performance of pomfret (Colossoa macropomum)  larvae. Five life feed i.e. Pomacea canaliculata, Mysis relicta, Tubifex sp, Culex sp., and Daphnia sp. Were tested in this study. The research was conducted at the Laboratory of Aquatic, Veterinarary Faculty, Syiah Kuala University from April to May 2015. The completely randomized design wwith five treatments and four replications were used. The results showed that the life feeds has not gave the significant effect on the growth performance and the survival rate of C. macropomum juvenile. However, the higher growth and survival rates were found at fish fed on silk worm.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian pakan alami, Pomacea canaliculata, Mysis relicta, Tubifex sp, Culex sp, dan Daphnia sp terhadap pertumbuhan dan tingkat kelangsungan hidup benih ikan bawal air tawar (Colossoma macropomum). Penelitian dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Aquatik, Fakultas Kedokteran hewan Universitas Syiah Kuala, pada tanggal 15 April hingga 16 Mei 2015. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap dengan lima perlakuan dan empat ulangan. Perlakuan terdiri dari Pomacea canaliculata (A), Mysis relicta (B), Tubifex sp. (C), Culex sp (D). dan Daphnia sp. (E). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan pemberian pakan alami yang berbeda tidak berpegaruh nyata terhadap pertumbuhan dan kelangsungan hidup benih ikan bawal air tawar (C. macropomum). Namun demikian, pertumbuhan dan kelangsungan hidup yang lebih baik ditemukan pada pemberian cacing sutra

Abstract

Feed formulation influence of forage (Caliandra calothyrsus, Gliricidia sepium and Penisetum sp.) on distribution protein in sheep digestive tractABSTRACT. It was assumed that feed formulation given to animals has an effect on digested nutrient of the animals. The purpose of this experiment is to investigate nutrient contribution mainly protein in digestive tracts of sheep by forage formulation treatment (Caliandra calothyrsus, Gliricidia sepium and Penisetum sp.). Thirty (30) sheep tails with the average body weight 15,42 kg (SD 2,68) were fed forage with the following formulation: A. Fresh Penisetum sp. (FP) and fresh Caliandra calothyrsus (FC) (7 : 3 or 70 % + 30 %), B. Fresh Penisetum sp. (FP) and fresh Gliricidia sepium (FG) (7 : 3 or 70 % + 30 %), C. Fresh Penisetum sp. (FP), fresh Caliandra calothyrsus (FC) and fresh Gliricidia sepium (FG). The experiment was conducted for 90 days and water was provided ad libitum. Parameter recorded in this experiment were distribution of protein in sheep digestive tract, covers by protein rate in rumen, omasum, abomasum, small intestine, caecum, large intestine and rectal. Data recorded were processed by covariant analysis with body weight of sheep at the early experiment treatment as a covariant. Continuation test with Tukey test. The results of this research indicated that treatment had no significant effect on protein distribution of digestive tract. It was shown by protein content in digestive tract had no significantly difference among treatments ( P < 0,05), except for rectum part.

Abstract

The effect of forage formulation (elephant grass, kaliandra, and gamal leaves) on the growth and carcass of sheepABSTRACT. Feed is one of most important factors to increase animal production. Feeding animal with only one kind of grass such as elephant grass on ruminant animals including sheep is not able to increase the productivity of the animals. Kaliandra and gamal leaves contain high level of protein and can be formulated to ruminant nutrition. The purpose of this experiment is to evaluate the effect of forage namely elephant grass (Penisetum sp.), kaliandra (Caliandra calothyrsus), and gamal (Gliricidia sepium) on the growth and carcass of sheep. Forty nine sheep with the starting weight of 15,42 kg (SD 2,68) were used in this experiment and fed fresh elephant grass (RGS), fresh kaliandra (KS), dried kaliandra (KKR) and steamed kaliandra (KKS). Treatment A: 70 % RGS + 30 % KS, B: 70 % RGS + 30 % GS, C: 70 % RGS + 15 % KS + 15 % GS, D: 70 % RGS + 15 % KKR + 15 % GS, E: 70 % RGS + 15 % KKS + 15 % GS. Animals were fed for 70 days and given free access of water (ad libitum). Data collection was the growth of animals (average daily gain) and the weight of carcass. All data was analyzed by ANOVA. The results of the experiment show that forage formulation (fresh elephant grass, fresh, dried and steamed kaliandra and fresh gamal leaves) were not significantly effect on the growth and carcass of sheep.

Abstract

The existence of fish aggregating devices (FADs) in a waters is able to establish a new fishing ground that potential waters. FADs are able to attract the attention of the gathering of fishes and other aquayic organisms around it, increasing the density of fish around FADs can increase the chances of successful catching operation, and therefore the FADs has benefited significantly to increase the capture fishery production significantly. The purposes of the research were to evaluate the catching composition of purse seine production  using FADs and non FADs, and to examine the fectiveness of FADs. This research was conducted on February 1 - 28, 2018 located at Pusong Waters, Lhokseumawe City. The survey  method was used in this study. The direct sampling by following the fisherman in fishing activities was performed both the purse seine with FADs and no FADs. Total purse seine catches during the research were 4,320 kg consisting of Long Jawed Mackerel (Rastrelliger sp.) 1,280 kg (29.63%), Decapterus Fish ( Decapterus sp.) 350 kg (8,107%), skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis) 845 kg (19.56 %), tuna fish (Euthynnus affinis) 720 kg (16.67%), Torpedo scad (Megalaspis cordyla) 300 kg (6.94%), Queenfish 140 kg (3.24%), and starry triggerfish (Abalistes stellaris) 685 kg (15.86%). It was concluded that the purse seine used FADs is more effective  compared to the a purse seine that does not use FADs.Keberadaan rumpon di suatu perairan mampu menarik perhatian berkumpulnya ikan dan organisme lain disekitarnya, sehingga dapat meningkatkan hasil tangkapan ikan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis komposisi hasil tangkapan purse seine yang menggunakan rumpon dan purse seine yang tidak menggunakan rumpon, dan menilai efektivitas rumpon dalam mengumpulkan ikan. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada 01 - 28 Februari 2018 bertempat di Perairan Pusong, Kota Lhokseumawe. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode survei, yaitu dengan mengikuti nelayan dalam kegiatan penangkapan ikan, baik nelayan purse seine yang menggunakan rumpon dan nelayan purse seine yang tidak menggunakan rumpon. Data ikan hasil tangkapan yang diperoleh dihitung jumlah ikan hasil tangkapan dan diidentifikasi spesies ikan dan selanjutnya dibandingkan dengan hasil tangkapan nelayan yang menggunakan rumpon dan ikan hasil tangkapan nelayan yang tidak menggunakan rumpon. Total hasil tangkapan purse seine selama penelitian sebanyak 4.320 kg terdiri dari kembung (Rastrelliger sp.) 1.280 kg (29,63%), layang (Decapterus sp.) 350 kg (8,107%), cakalang (Katsuwonus pelamis) 845 kg (19,56%), tongkol (Euthynnus affinis) 720 kg (16,67 %), tegang ekor/tetengkek (Megalaspis cordyla) 300 kg (6,94 %), talang/daun bamboo (Scomberoides lysan) 140 kg (3,24%), dan ayam-ayam (Abalistes stellaris) 685 kg (15,86 %).  Dari kedua jenis kegiatan penangkapan ikan tersebut, maka purse seine menggunakan rumpon lebih efektif dibandingkan purse seine yang tidak menggunakan rumpon sebagai daerah penangkapan ikan.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of active charcoal gived in feed for growth, survival and digestibility of tilapia GESIT (Oreochromis niloticus L). This research was conducted at marine aquatic biology laboratory of marine and fishery faculty of syiah kuala university on september-november 2017. The proksimat test of feces were conducted at the development agency of the industrial research and standardization center of banda aceh. The method used in this research is a complete randomized design method with 5 treatment levels with 3 replications. Parameters tested were fish growth, digestibility, feed conversion ratio, and Survival rate. The treatment in this research were treatment A (control), B addition of activated charcoal rice husk, C treatment of mangrove wood, D sawdust treatment, and E treatment coconut shell. Based on the result of ANOVA test indicated that active charcoal giving in feed significantly influence (P<0.05) to growth, digestibility and feed conversion,and survival rate. The best treatment with the highest value in this study was B treatment with additional rice husk with average of absolute weight growth ranged from 5.65 to 8.57 g, absolute longevity growth ranged from 3.61 to 5.35 cm, growth rate specifically ranged from 0.80 to 0.97% / day, the daily growth rate ranges from 0.14-0.20%/g, the feed conversion is between 4.43 g and 2.37 g , the survival is 73.33%- 86.66 %, and protein digestibility ranged from 56.51 to 93.46%.Keywords:Activated charcoal,proteindigestibility,growth, Oreochromis nilticus L       Penelitian ini bertujuaan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian arang aktif dalam pakan terhadap pertumbuhan, kelangsungan hidup, dan daya cerna ikan nila GESIT (Oreochromis niloticus L). Penelitian ini berlangsung pada bulan September-November 2017 pemeliharaan ikan dilakukan di Laboratorium Biologi Laut Budidaya Perairan Fakultas Kelautan dan Perikanan Universitas Syiah Kuala. Uji proksimat terhadap feses ikan dilakukan di Balai riset standardisasi industri banda aceh. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah metode rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) dengan 5 perlakuan dan 3 kali pengulangan. Parameter yang diuji adalah pertumbuhan ikan, daya cerna, konversi pakan, dan kelangsungan hidup. Perlakuan pada penelitian ini yaitu perlakuan A (kontrol), perlakuan B arang aktif sekam padi, perlakuan C kayu bakau, perlakuan D serbuk gergaji, dan perlakuan E tempurung kelapa. Berdasarkan hasil uji ANOVA menunjukkan bahwa pemberian arang aktif dalam pakan berpengaruh nyata (P<0,05) terhadap pertumbuhan, daya cerna, konversi pakan, dan kelangsungan hidup. Perlakuan terbaik dengan nilai tertinggi pada penelitian ini adalah perlakuan B dengan tambahan sekam padi dengan rerata pertumbuhan berat mutlak berkisar antara 5,65 – 8,57 g, pertumbuhan panjang mutlak berkisar 3,61 – 5,35 cm, laju pertumbuhan spesifik berkisar 0,80 – 0,97 %/hari,  Laju pertumbuhan harian berkisar antara 0,14-0,20%/g, konversi pakan berkisar antara 4,43 g dan 2,37 g, kelangsungan hidup berkisar 73,33 – 86,66 %, dan daya cerna protein berkisar 56,51 – 93,46 %.KataKunci: Arang aktif, Nila GESIT, pertumbuhan, daya cerna protein

Abstract

Penelitian tentang efek pemberian kayu manis terhadap kadar ureum dan kreatinin tikus yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian kayu manis terhadap ureum dan kretainin tikus. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL). Tikus dibagi menjadi 4 perlakuan dengan 5 ulangan pada setiap perlakuan. Perlakuan 0 (P0) adalah tikus yang diberi pellet,air minum dan carboxy methyl cellulose (CMC) 0,5%. Perlakuan I (P1) merupakan tikus diberi perlakuan pellet, air minum dan ekstrak kayu manis dengan dosis 200mg/kgBB, perlakuan II (P2) tikus diberi perlakuan pellet, air minum dan ekstrak kayu manis dengan dosis 400mg/kgBB, serta perlakuan III (P3) tikus diberikan pellet,air minum dan ekstrak kayu manis dengan dosis 800mg/kgBB. Pemberian eksrak kayu manis dilakukan selama 14 hari, pada hari ke-15 dilakukan pengambilan sampel darah melalui vena orbitalis untuk pemeriksaan kadar ureum dan kreatinin darah tikus. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis varian (ANAVA). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pakan mempengaruhi kadar ureum tikus tetapi kadar kreatinin semua perlakuan normal.

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the effect of water salinity changes on methionine content in tiger grouper juvenile (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus). A total of 2,560 tiger grouper juveniles were used and divided into five groups consist of 1 control group (without exposed to salinity changes) and 4 treatment groups. The salinity was changed every 2, 3, 4, and 6 hours in treatment A, B, C, and D, respectively. Salinity levels were changed during 24 hours by lowering salinity level from 32 psu to 22 psu. Twenty five of fish were collected from each treatment for methionine content analysis. Data were analysed using one way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results showed that there was a decrease in methionine content in all treatments. A significant decrease (P<0.05) of methionine content in treatment A, B, and C were observed after 20 hours (1.15%), 18 hours (1.27%), and 16 hours (1.24%), respectively. While at 0 hours (control), the methionine content was 2.02%. Methionine level in treatment D was not significantly different (P>0.05) compared to control group. As conclusion, rearing the tiger grouper juvenile with salinity fluctuations every 6 hours did not lead to methionine deficiency.
