Abstract

BACKGROUND: Aedes aegypti is a vector of several pathogens including dengue virus. Vector control is an effective way to break the transmission but unfortunately constant use of insecticides ultimately causes vector resistance. Pyrethroids have been used for about 15 years to combat Ae. aegypti in Yogyakarta Province, Indonesia. Single amino acid substitutions in the voltagegated sodium channel associated with pyrethroid resistance constitute one of the main causative factors of knockdown resistance (kdr). The aim of this study is to detect resistant status to cypermetrine and polymorphism on the voltagegated sodium channel gene of Ae. aegypti from 2 dengue endemic areas in Yogyakarta Province (Yogyakarta city and Sleman district).METHODS: Pyrethroid resistance in Ae. aegypti mosquitoes was detected by using CDC Bottle Bioassay. To detect the polymorphism on the voltage-gated sodium channel gene of Ae. aegypti analyses were conducted by using PCR and direct DNA squencing with primers AaSCF1 and AaSCR4 for S989P, I1011M (or V), L1014F sites, and AaSCF7 and AaSCR7 for the F1534C site.RESULTS: According to bioassay, the results for Ae. aegypti from Yogyakarta city (93% mortality) and Sleman district (88% mortality) suggest the possibility of resistance to cypermethrin. We observed polymorphism on voltagegated sodium channel gene on site F1534C (heterozygous).CONCLUSION: The findings provide early evidence that the use of cypermethrin (pyrethroids) in Yogyakarta city and Sleman district, Yogyakarta Province, Indonesia is reducing its effectiveness to control Ae. aegypti. Abstract

Information about potency and utilization of Skipjack Tuna in Bone Bay region will support regionalmanagement of fisheries resources in Indonesiabased on characteristic and carrying capacity of marine waters,espcially in Bay region. The aims of this study were to estimate potency of Skipjack Tuna and the level of theirutilization in Bone Bay region and to estimate the primary productivity produced by euphotic zone (Pp).Analysis methods used in this study were catch per unit effort(CPUE) and maximum sustainable yield (MSY),vertically generalized production model (VGPM) which required data of photosynthetically active radiationanddepth of euphotic zone, fish production model by considering energy transfer efficiency among trophic level.This study was conducted for eight months in Luwu Regency.The result of the study showed that the utilization ofthe Skipjack Tunawas bigger than the MSY,.The Ppeu was in the range of 483.3143to 1306.027 mgC m. Abstract

 Fisheries management requires reliable estimation and can be made as a consequence of the alternatives strategyexploitation, it requires knowledge about the biological condition of the fish stocks at a certain time, one of them is agrouper (Plectropomus leopardus).The aims of this study is to analyze the biological diversity includes the averagetotal length, size structure and weight-length relationship of groupers (Plectropomus leopardus) in SpermondeIslands. The results are expected to provide information on sustainable resource management in SpermondeArchipelago.The study was conducted from July 2013- February 2014 in three locations of Spermondearchipelago,namely Sarappo Island, LumulumuIsland and LangkaiIsland using primary data. Research methodssuch as measurement of total length and weight of the grouper Sunufish from the catch of fishermen and traders ineach collection area. The average of the total length, the size structure and weight length relationships wereanalyzed descriptively,The analysis results of the average total length of the grouper (P. leopardus) caught inSarappo Island, Lumulumu Island and Langkai Island respectively 29.84 ± 8.6 cm (N = 624), 31.93 ± 8.03 cm ( N =291), 34.64 ± 7.41 cm (N = 214) where the nearer them to the mainland,the smaller averagetotal length is. The sizedistribution of grouper sunu (P. leopardus) in the Sarappo island and Lumulumu island are most of the small sizewhich is 22.5 cm by 35.63% and 22.68%, and on the Langkai island the most caught fishes size are 37.5 cm by 31,77%. Abstract

Bone Strait and Flores sea are Indonesian waters which has a high fish resources, especially Katsuwonuspelagicus. Those waters are also affected by climate change. Aims of study were to examined distribution map ofKatsuwonus fish based on environemental condition at Bone Strait and Flores Sea. Study was conducted for fourmonths (May – August 2015). Environment parameters (Sea level temperature, Chl a, salnity and pH) wasmeasured in situ at fishing area and fish weight data was measured through measuring fish that caught from poleand line fishermen. Results showed that Katsuwonus from Bone Strait (1 – 2 kg and 3.5 – 5 kg) tended to distributeat temperature, Chl a, salinity and pH account for 29.3oC – 30oC, 0.8 – 1.5 mg/m3 and 28 – 30 o/oo, 7.95 – 8.37respectively. meanwhile fish with 2 – 2.5 kg was distributed at 30oC – 30.3oC, 0.6 – 0.7 mg/m3, 28 – 29 o/oo and8.32 – 8.5 for temperature, Chl a, salinity and pH, respectively. At Flores Sea, Katsuwonus with 1.2 – 1.5 kgtended to distribut at 29.5oC – 30oC, 0.12 – 0.16 mg/m3, 28 – 30 o/oo and 7.95 – 8.57 for temperature, chl a, salinityand pH, respectively. Fish with weight 1.5 – 2.2 kg was spread at 28.5oC – 29oC for temperature, 0.1 – 0.13mg/m3 chl a, 28 – 30o/oo for salinity and 8.38 – 8.5 for pH.Keywords : Distribution map, Katsuwonus fish, environmental factor, Bone Strait and Flores Sea.

Abstract

ABSTRACTIntroduction: The two main methods to detect the presence of intestinal protozoa?s cysts are zinc-sulphate flotation (Faust?s) and formol-ether sedimentation (Ritchie?s) methods. Some researchers have recommended using both flotation and sedimentation in detecting the intestinal parasites. However, this approach is unpractical for most laboratories. To date there are no studies that conclude which method, either Faust?s method or Ritchie?s method, is more effective in term of sensitivity and specificity of detecting the intestinal protozoa cyst. This study was done to conclude which method has higher sensitivity and specificityObjectives: To compare the sensitivity and specificity of Faust?s to Ritchie?s methods in identifying intestinal protozoa.Methods: Thirty anonymous fecal samples were obtained from Parasitology Laboratory Faculty of Medicine Gadjah Mada University. Each sample was tested using both Faust?s and Ritchie?s methods and then microscopically examined to find the intestinal protozoa?s cysts. Numbers of samples with cyst-positive were recorded to determine which method has higher ability to detect the intestinal protozoa?s cysts. Data was analyzed by calculating sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV).Results: From all the five identified cysts (Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia, Entamoeba coli, Iodamoeba butschlii, Blastocystis hominis), Ritchie?s method was able to detect more cyst than Faust?s method. The sensitivity and specificity of Ritchie?s method compared to Faust?s were 100% and 93.33% respectively. The positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) of Ritchie?s compared to Faust?s method were 93.75% and 100% respectively. Ritchie?s method is proven to have higher sensitivity and specificity than Faust?s method. This method has high sensitivity probably because of the cysts are concentrated and so more cysts could be collected.Conclusion: This study concludes that the Ritchie?s method has higher sensitivity and specificity compared to Faust?s method in detecting five common intestinal protozoa?s cysts.Keywords: formol-ether sedimentation method, zinc-sulphate flotation method, intestinal protozoa, sensitivity, specificity.

Abstract

ABSTRACTIntroduction: Dengue infection has been a major concern for decades. Prevention from getting bitten by Aedes aegypti mosquito is considered better than cure as there is no specific antiviral treatment for dengue. Recently, catnip (Nepeta cataria L.) extract has been formulated and marketed as an alternative for protection against mosquitoes and act as a natural form of mosquito repellent.Objectives: To understand the repelling properties of both DEET and N. cataria L. extract and to compare the repelling properties between DEET and N. cataria L. against Ae. aegypti mosquito.Methods: The repelling properties was tested based on the number of mosquitoes that sits on the hand of the respondent after being applied to the gold standard of mosquito repellent, DEET, and compared to N. cataria L. extract in different concentrations in total of 15 minutes.Results: Three different concentrations of catnip extract (10%, 30% and 50%) shows different efficacy in repelling Ae. aegypti mosquitoes at the range of 62.8%-80%, although the repellent activity is still lower than DEET that have 100% repellent activity.Conclusion: Catnip (N. cataria L) showed mosquitoes repellent properties at concentration 10-50% with repellent activity at the range 62.8%-80%. Keywords: Dengue, Aedes aegypti, repellent, DEET (N,N- Diethyl-m-toluamide), catnip (Nepeta cataria L.) extract. INTISARI Pendahuluan: Infeksi Dengue merupakan masalah utama selama berpuluh tahun. Pencegahan dengan menghindari gigitan nyamuk Aedes aegypti dianggap lebih baik daripada mengobati karena tidak ada terapi antiviral yang spesifik untuk dengue. Akhir-akhir ini, ekstrak catnip (Nepeta cataria L.) telah diformulasi dan dipasarkan sebagai alternatif untuk perlindungan terhadap nyamuk dan berlaku sebagai bentuk alami dari repelen.Tujuan: Untuk memahami agen penolakan dari N,N- Diethyl-m-toluamide  (DEET) dan ekstrak N. cataria L. extract dan membandingkan agen penolakan antara DEET dan N. cataria L. terhadap nyamuk Ae. aegypti.Metode: Agen penolakan diuji berdasarkan jumlah nyamuk yang mendarat di tangan responden setelah diolesi repelen nyamuk baku DEET, dan dibandingkan dengan ekstrak N. cataria L. pada berbagai konsentrasi selama total waktu 15 menit.Hasil: Tiga konsentrasi ekstrak catnip (10%, 30% and 50%) menunjukkan daya penolakan nyamuk Ae. aegypti yang berbeda pada rentang 62.8%-80%, meskipun aktivitas penolakan nyamuknya masih lebih rendah dari DEET yang mempunyai aktivitas penolakan 100%.Simpulan: Ekstrak Catnip (N. cataria L) menunjukkan daya penolakan nyamuk pada konsentrasi 10-50% dengan aktivitas repelant antara 62.8%-80%.Kata kunci: Dengue, Aedes aegypti, repellent, DEET (N,N- Diethyl-m-toluamide), ekstrak catnip (Nepeta cataria L.).

Abstract

Penelitian ini   berdasarkan pada aspek (1) Bagaimana pemahaman   Guru TPQ tentang nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter yang terkandung dalam surat al-Luqman, (2) Bagaimana kontekstualiasasi nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter yang terkandung dalam surat al-Luqman dengan perkembangan anak didik.  Tujuan  penelitian  ini  adalah  mendeskripsikan  dan  menjelaskan tentang : (1) Pemahaman Nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter yang terkandung dalam surat al- Luqman, yang di pahami oleh Guru TPQ kecamatan Sukodadi dan (2) kontekstualiasasi nilai- nilai pendidikan karakter yang terkandung dalam surat al-Luqman dengan perkembangan anak didik. Metode penelitian ini adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan tafsir Hermeneutika. Data  dalam  penelitian  ini  berupa  data  tentang  (1)  Nilai-nilai  pendidikan  karakter  yang terkandung dalam surat al-Luqman, dan (2)   kontekstualiasasi nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter yang terkandung dalam surat al-Luqman dengan perkembangan anak didik.   Sumber data diperoleh dari dokumentasi dan wawancara.  Adapun teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan dokumentasi dan wawancara. Teknik analisis data menggunakan teknik interaktif. Validasi data menggunakan triangulasi, baik triangulasi teori, data, dan metode.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan terhadap  sejumlah ibu-ibu jamiyah Fatayat dan Muslimat di desa Madulegi ini yang memiliki dinamika pemikiran gender. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kualitatif diskriptif dengan pendekatan perspektif gender. Data dalam penelitian ini merupakan data tentang : (1) steorotipe gender, (2) Diskriminatif peran, (3) Beban kerja dan (4). Subordinasi.   Sumber data diperoleh dari dokumentasi dan informan. Adapun teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan dokumentasi dan wawancara. Teknik analisis data menggunakan teknik interaktif model Miles Huberman. Hasil temuan penelitian dapat mendeskripsikan : (1) Pandangan  tentang steorotipe gender Ibu-ibu Fatayat dan Muslimat , (2) Diskriminatif peran yang dialami oleh ibu-ibu jamiyah Fatayat dan Muslimat yang mencerminkan relasi gender, (3) beban kerja yang diakibatkan relasi gender dan, (4) Kekerasn yang diakibatkan oleh relasi gender.

Abstract

In Bantul, Yogyakarta Special Region there have been reported 6 elephantiasis cases and ware suspected as filariasis. Elephantiasis is classified into two, namely filarial elephantiasis and nonfilarial elephantiasis. Filarial elephantiasis caused by lymphatic filarial worms infection and nonfilarial elephantiasis can be caused by podoconiosis, leprosy, tuberculosis, or chlamydia infection. The aim of the study was to ascertain whether elephantiasis cases are caused by filariasis. Activities carried out in the work area of the Bantul District Health Office in July 2016 i.e.: (1) patient location survey, (2) interviews with patients, their families, and surrounding communities, (3) examination of patients, and (4) observe the environment around the patient's residence to ensure existence of vector mosquito breeding places. This study found two people with elephantiasis, patients from Depok, Gilangharjo, Pandak, Bantul was suspected elephantiasis due to Brugia malayi infection. Patient from Cawan, Argodadi, Sedayu, Bantul was suspected elephantiasis due to podoconiosis. In Cawan found many breeding sites for the Anopheles vagus mosquito.
