Abstract

Aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of CGF 40% in hastening the recuperation, as indicated by reduced length of hospital stay, improvement in clinical status, increase in platelets, and reduction in the hemoconcentration. The study group comprised of 84 consecutive DHF patients, 42 male and 42 female subjects, who were randomized into the control group receiving the WHO standard therapy and the intervention group receiving CGF 40% and the standard therapy. Hemoglobin, hematocrite and thrombocyte counts were taken daily until the subjects were free of the symptoms and signs of DHF, and the thrombocyte count read >100.000. The results were analyzed statistically, student t test and quadratic regression, using SPSS 16 software. The average length of recuperation time in the intervention and control groups were 2.76 days and 4.43 days respectively (p=0.000). Recuperation times of subjects with thrombocyte counts 50,000 of the intervention group (3,09 and 2,37 days) and the control group (4,2 and 4,5 days) were different significantly (p=0.016 and 0.000). When analized specifically in the treatment group, the recuperation time of those with thrombocyte counts 50,000 (3.09 days) with p=0.112. Using quadratic regression, the increase in thrombocytes, reduction in hemoglobin concentrations and hematocrite were faster in the intervention group when compared to the control group, with R2 almost reaching 1. The study disclosed that administration of CGF 40% could reduce the recuperation time and improved the hemoconcentration, which presumably demonstrated the concept of regenerative medicine as indicated by the repairmen of vascular permeability. Abstract

Background: Status of minerals such as zinc, magnesium, and chromium among diabetic patients are considered lower than non-diabetic peoples, both in the serum and intake. Some reviews show that those minerals contribute to carbohydrate metabolism among diabetic patients.Objective: This study aims to explore intake of zinc, magnesium, and chromium among DMT2 in Denpasar.Method: This is a cross-sectional analytic study. The population was all (70) DMT2 patients registered at Chronic Disease Service (Prolanis) at two Primary Health Care (PHC) Denpasar Utara III PHC and Denpasar Timur I PHC. The sample for the study was DMT2 patients and non-diabetic people age 50-70 years reside in Denpasar city. DMT2 patients were randomly selected with simple random technique, while non-diabetic peoples were non-randomly selected. The level of serum chromium was measured by AAS method, whereas microminerals intake were collected by a recall and SQ-FFQ method. Data was analyzed descriptively and differences were tested with two independent t-test at 95% confidence level.Results: The mean of serum chromium DMT2 and non-diabetic were 0.044 mg/L and 0.094 mg/L respectively. The mean±SEM magnesium (DMT2 316.1±22.4 mg/day; non-diabetic 211.0±33.5 mg/day), zinc intake was (DMT2 8.4±0.7 mg/day; non-diabetic 6.2±0.8 mg/day), and chromium (DMT2 10.8±1.3 µg/day; non-diabetic 8.7±0.9µg/day). A significant difference was found between magnesium intake (p=0.01).Conclusion: The study showed that zinc, magnesium and chromium intake is appeared higher among DMT2 patients compare to non-diabetic in Denpasar region.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the correlation characteristics of adult men aged 35-60 years with metabolic syndrome biomarkers. Cross-sectional study with a purposive sampling involving 36 adult men who have the criteria for metabolic syndrome according to International Diabetes Federation (IDF) 2006 was applied. The data was collected through interview and questionnaire administration. Body weight data measured using bathroom scale accuracy 0.1 kg, waist circumference with centimeter tape accuracy 0.1 cm, height with microtoice accuracy 0.1 cm. Serum lipid profiles were then analyzed by DSI kits Number 60111321 and 60111509, while the blood glucose was analyzed by DSI kit Number 60108392. The results were interpreted by using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The results showed that most of subjects aged average 44.7?6.6 years, had BMI 30.3?4.2 kg/m2 and waist circumference 101.9?8.8 cm. Lipid profile of the subjects were serum triacylglycerol average 217.3 mg/dl, HDL-cholesterol 33.4 mg/dl, and fasting blood sugar? 93.3 mg/dl. Body weight had a significant negative correlation with serum level of HDL (r=-0.34; p<0.05). A significant negative correlation also was found between age and triacylglycerol level (r=-0.44; p<0.01). Besides, a significantly positive correlation was found between age and serum level of HDL-cholesterol (r=0.33; p<0.05). There was no significant correlation on nutrient intake with metabolic syndrome biomarkers p?0.05.? The research suggest the need to? regularly control weight and waist circumference to prevent metabolic syndrome.
