Abstract

This research aimed to determine the effect of ethanol extract of Impatiens balsamina Linn leaves on the growth of Candida albicans in vitro. One kilogram of Impatiens balsamina leaves which grows in Aceh was used. The leaves were washed, dried and blended into powder. The powder was then extracted with ethanol, filtrated, and evaporated. The crude extract was then made into serial concentration of 100, 75, 50, and 25%. The test of the effect of giving ethanol extract in Impatiens balsamina Linn is determined by the Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method. Results showed that inhibition zones for 0, 25, 50, 75, and 100% were 0.0, 8.66±1.53, 11.66±1.55, 13.66±1.52, and 6±5.29 consecutively. It can be concluded that the ethanol extract of Impatiens balsamina Linn leaves± inhibit the growth of Candida albicans.Key words: Candida albicans, balsamina leaf, Impatiens balsamina Linn, extract

Abstract

The porpouse of this research aimed to isolate enterobacteriaceae bacteria from feces of Pongo abelii. The samples of feces were collected from 15 captive orangutans in Orangutan Sumatera Batu Mbelin Sibolangit Qurantine, North Sumatra. Of each sample was cultured in nutrient broth media using sterilecotton swabs or Pasteur pipettes, and incubated at 37°C temperature for 24 hours. Culture was spared on Methylene Blue Agar (Oxoid), examined by Gram staining, and tested by biochemically. The result showed that significantly more common appear Escherichia sp. (93,33%) and fewer Edwardsiella sp. (66,67%) wereisolated from feces samples of P. abelii. Others enterobacteriaceae found in feces of P. Abelii were Shigella sp. (46,67%), Klebsiella sp. (33,33%), Citrobacter sp., and Salmonella sp. (13,33%), respectively

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui titer antibodi pada serum ayam kampung (Gallus domesticus) terhadap virus Newcastle disease (ND). Sampel penelitian adalah serum ayam kampung yang diperoleh di beberapa pasar tradisional Banda Aceh. Parameter yang diamati dalam penelitian ini adalah titer antibodi serum ayam kampung dari uji hemaglutinasi inhibisi (HI) dengan memperhatikan endapan eritrosit. Data hasil pengamatan dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dari 120 sampel yang diambil di beberapa pasar tradisional di kota Banda Aceh hanya 15 sampel (12,5%) menunjukkan protektif sedangkan 105 sampel (87,5%) tidak protektif. Tingkat proteksi ayam terhadap virus ND di pasar tradisional di kota Banda Aceh tergolong sangat rendah.

Abstract

Seroprevalence of avian influenza H5N1 in birds in north aceh districtABSTRACT. Avian influenza virus H5N1 infections are an important cause of diseases in humans and several animal species, including birds. The present study conducted to investigate the seroprevalence Avian Influenza H5N1 in native birds from 15 sub-districts of North Aceh.  This study utilized 1108 serum samples collected from the axilaris vein (left or right) of birds. The standard Hemaglutination Inhibition (HI) assay was conducted at Microbiology Laboratory Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Syiah Kuala University to determined serum antibody possitive or negative reaction against Avian influenza H5N1. The result showed that seroprevalence Avian influenza H5N1 virus was 4,7 % in North Aceh District. There were nine sub-districts were tested positively by HI test. However, the serum collected from six sub-districts did not react (negative) against Avian influenza H5N1. Based on the results we obtained, a conclusion that natural infection by Avian influenza virus in native birds occured in part of North Aceh District.

Abstract

ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengisolasi dan mengidentifikasi bakteri Gram negatif pada ambing kambing peranakan etawa (PE). Sampel yang digunakan pada penelitian ini terdiri dari swab ambing dari 5 ekor kambing PE. Sampel dibiakkan pada media nutrient broth lalu diinkubasikan pada suhu 37°C selama 24 jam. Isolasi dan identifikasi dilakukan dengan metode Carter yang meliputi pengamatan morfologi koloni, pewarnaan Gram, penanaman pada media diferensial dan selektif serta uji biokimia. Hasil isolasi dan identifikasi pada 5 sampel swab ambing kambing PE didapatkan dua koloni bakteri Gram negatif yaitu Escherichia coli dan bakteri X yang belum teridentifikasi melalui uji-uji yang dilakukan. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa bakteri Gram negatif pada ambing kambing PE adalah Escherichia coli dan bakteri X yang belum teridentifikasi.Kata kunci: kambing PE, ambing, bakteri Gram negatif. ABSTRACTThis study aimed to isolate and identify Gram-negative bacteria on udder of etawa crossbred (PE) goat. Swab samples were obtained from 5 PE goats udder. Swab samples were cultured in nutrient broth media and incubated at 37°C for 24 hours. Isolation and identification were performed by Carter method, followed by observation of colony morphology, Gram staining, cultured on differential and selective media, and biochemical tests were performed. The result showed that there were two colonies of Gram negative bacteria Escherichia coli and the other colony has not been identified yet with this tests. Therefore it can be concluded that the Gram-negative bacteria found on udder of PE goat were Escherichia coli and bacteria X that has not been identified by using this method.Keywords:etawa crossbred goat, udder, Gram-negative bacteria.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the total amount of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) contamination in beef sold in traditional market in Banda Aceh. Total of 16 beef samples were used in this research, 2 samples from Beurawe market, 10 samples from Peunayong market, and 4 samples from Seutui market. Samples were cultured on manitol salt agar. The number of S. aureus colonies was calculated using colony counter, and the result was compared to the limit of microbial contamination based on Indonesian National Standard (SNI). The result of this research showed that the highest level of S. aureus contamination was derived from Beurawe market. It is concluded that all beef sold by seller from traditional market in Banda Aceh were contaminated by S. aureus.Key words: Staphylococcus aureus, meat, traditional market, number of contamination

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of the red dragon fruit peels (Hylocereus polyrhizus) extract on the growth of Salmonella pullorum. This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Microbiology, Veterinary Faculty, University of Syiah Kuala, Banda Aceh. Red dragon fruit peels that used in this study is obtained from  ripe fruit and Salmonella pullorum cultures is  obtained from  Microbiology Laboratory of Veterinary Faculty Unsyiah. Salmonella pullorum culture added evenly on the surface of Mueller Hinton Agar, the number of the bacteria have been standarized using Mc Farland1 method. Discs soaked in the red dragon fruit peels extracts at different concentrations (20 mg/ml, 40 mg/mL, and 60 mg/ml). Ampicillin is used as positive controls and DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide) was placed on the surface of Mueller Hinton Agar. The parameters in this study is the inhibition zone diameter. Data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the red dragon fruit peel extract is able to inhibit the growth of Salmonella  pullorum and the average of  inhibition diameter zone at a concentration 60 mg / ml is 9.6 mm, 40 mg / ml is 9.4 mm and 20 mg / ml is 9.3 mm

Abstract

This study aimed to isolate and identify the bacteria Salmonella sp in spleen of male layer chicken that died in farms Sibreh, Aceh Besar. A sample of the research is the spleen of male layer chickens. Isolation of Salmonella sp performed by inoculating spleen that were pierced using a swab on the media Selenite Cystine Broth (SCB) then planted on selective media Salmonella Shigella Agar (SSA) and colony morphology was observed, continued with observation of Gram stain under microscopic. Furthermore, colonies of suspected Salmonella sp planted in the media MR-VP (Oxoid), Indol (Difco), Simmonss Citrate Agar (Oxoid), Triple Sugar Iron Agar (TSIA), Sulfite Indol Motiliti (SIM), and media sugars (sucrose, manitol, glucose, lactose , maltose). The results of this study were analyzed descriptively. The research shows a results from a total of 33 samples, we found that 15 samples are positive that can be isolated and identified as Salmonella sp. Therefore it can be concluded that Salmonella sp is possible the death cause of male layer chicken in farms Sibreh, Aceh Besar

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui infeksi bakteri Escherichia coli pada anak ayam kampung (Gallus domesticus). Sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah feses anak ayam kampung yang diperoleh dari Pasar Lambaro, Aceh Besar. Sampel diambil dengan cara swab bagian kloaka anak ayam dengan menggunakan swab steril, kemudian sampel dimasukkan ke dalam microtube, dan dibawa ke laboratorium untuk dilakukan uji selanjutnya. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tiga kali pengambilan sampel dengan jangka waktu satu minggu dengan jumlah sampel uji sebanyak 15 sampel. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode Carter. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil pemeriksaan bakteri Escherichia coli (E. coli) yang telah dilakukan pada 15 sampel diketahui bahwa 9 sampel positif terinfeksi bakteri E. coli sedangkan 6 sampel lain positif bakteri coli form lainnya. Disimpulkan bahwa bakteri E. coli menginfeksi anak ayam kampung di Pasar Lambaro Aceh Besar.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to see the antimicrobial activities of oxytetracycline to the inhibition of Staphylococcus aureus biofilm of Aceh’s cattle preputium isolates. The parameters measured in this study were the percentage of antimicrobial and biofilm inhibitory power. The antimicrobial activities were tested on Nutrient Broth using U-bottom polystyrene microplate 96 wells. The Biofilm stained using 1% of crystalviolet. Then, Optical Density (OD) read at λ 595 nm. The results showed that the oxytetracycline of 10%, 20% and 30% (μg / μL) had the antimicrobial abilities of 28.60% ± 13.23%; 36.30% ± 5.37%; and 57.70% ± 2.23%. In addition, The biofilm inhibitory capacity of oxytetracycline 10%, 20% and 30% (μg / μL) were 2.20% ± 8.77%; 2.70% ± 4.17%; and 3.73% ± 14.14%. Therefore, it can be concluded that the oxytetracycline  had the ability to inhibit the biofilm of Staphylococcus aureus.
