Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is an endocrine metabolic disorder which, characterized by hyperglycemia status, and whose complications can cause mortality. Glucose is the key regulator of insulin secretion by the pancreatic beta cells. Besides diet, physical exercise and antidiabetic medications, acupuncture is believed to have the ability in reducing the blood sugar of DM patients. Acupuncture by stimulating some accupoints might be useful as an alternative therapy for DM type 2 by increasing the insulin secretion and improving the systemic circulation. The aim of this research is to elucidate the effect of segmental acupuncture on fasting blood sugar (FBS) in alloxan-induced diabetic Wistar male rats. This research was a random controlled preclinical study. There were 32 male Wistar rats, with average body weight of 150-220 grams, randomly devided into 2 groups (n=16), the control and treated groups. Segmental needling was performed on Thoracal 5-11 paravetebral acupoints of the treated group rats. The needling was applied once daily for 10 days, while the control group were only observed without needling. The FBS level was measured on the 6th day and 11th day. The data of percentage in reducing blood sugar were analyzed with independent T-test, a=0.05. The results showed reduced of FBS were 24.50% and 12.79% (p>0.05) on the 6th day in the treated and control group. On the 11th day respectively 46.67% and 18.69% (p<0.01). The diference between the 6th and 11th day of the treated and control groups, were 28.63% and 3.46% (p<0.01). As a conclusion, segmental acupuncture is able to reduce the FBS level after more than 5 times needling in experimental animals. Abstract

Frozen shoulderyang disebut juga adhesive capsulitis adalah suatu keadaan yang ditandai dengan kekakuan dan nyeri pada sendi bahu. Keadaan bisa menjadi lebih buruk yang ditandai dengan luas pergerakan bahu yang berkurang. Frozen shoulder biasanya terjadi pada satu bahu, tetapi dapat berlanjut pada sisi bahu yang lain. Gangguan pada sendi bahu yang berupa nyeri baik pada gerakan aktif maupun pasif dan terbatasnya ruang gerak akan memengaruhi kehidupan sehari-hari. Beberapa penelitian menunjukkan bahwa akupunktur dapat digunakan sebagai salah satu pilihan terapi dengan hasil yang baik.

Abstract

Obesity is a world wide problem including for Indonesia. Central  obesity is one of the risk factors of metabolic syndrome which cause high morbidity and mortality. Green tea (Camellia sinensis L.Kuntze) is one of the alternative medications which used to reduce body weight. This study was proposed to know more about the effect of green tea on body weight , blood triglyceride and cholesterol level of Wistar rats. Green tea extracts were given once a day for 30 days. The rat’s body weight and food were weigh everyday. Blood triglyceride and cholesterol levels were analyzed at the beginning and the end of the study. The study showed that 86.4 mg of green tea extracts given to each rat everyday could reduce  weight as for the triglyceride level were also reduced significantly at the dose 21,6 mg, 43,2 mg and 86,4 mg compared to the high fat diet group but there were no significant changes in the cholesterol level. The summary was that green tea extract has a weight reducing effect on Wistar rats as well as the blood triglyceride level.

Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic disorder that is characterized by hyperglycemia due to insulin secretion or function disorder. Physalis minina, Linn., Psidium guajava, Linn., Sweitenia mahagoni, Jacq are used empirically as hypoglycemic medicine.Objectives: to compare the effect of Physalis minina, Linn., Psidium guajava, Linn., Sweitenia mahagoni, Jacq ethanol extract against the hypogycaemic effect of alloxan induced diabetic mice.Method: Thirty alloxan induced diabetic Swiss Webster strain mice, which fasting blood glucose level was more than 126 mg/gL, were deivided into 5 groups: each was given Physalis minina, Linn. Ethanol extract 1574,9 mg/kgBB mencit, gom arab 1% and glibenklamid 1,3 mg/kgBB for 7 days. The fasting glucose level of thosemice was measured on the eighth day. The data were analyzed using ANOVA and continued with Tukey HSD test.Results: there was highly significant difference between fasting blood glucose decrement of Physalis minina, Linn. ethanol extract group (54,26 +- 4,617%)Psidium guajava, Linn. ethanol extract group (54,44 +- 7,338%), Sweitenia mahagoni, Jacq ethanol extract group (71,3 +- 11,80%) against negative control group (1,4017 +- 4,7456%)(p<0,01).Conclusions: Physalis minina, Linn., Psidium guajava, Linn., Sweitenia mahagoni, Jacq ethanol extract can decrease blood glucose level of mice which were induced by alloxan, Sweitenia mahagoni, Jacq ethanol extract has the best effect.

Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is a part of diseases of the cardiovascular system and one of the most common health problems in the world. Hypertension can be prevented by living a healthy lifestyle and regular exercise. As for the treatment, other tahn using a synthetic medicine, hypertension can also be treated using herbal medicine, usch as celery. Celery (Apium graveolens L.) has been used empirically to lowering blood pressure.Objectives: to observe the effect of celery ethanol extract (CEE) on lowering male adults blood pressure.Method: This research was an experimental and comparative using pre test and post test as its design. The experiment was done on 30 adult male. Blood pressures (systole and diastole) measured on sitting position using the combine method, both before and after drinking celery ethanol extract, once a day, until one week. The data analyzed using the paired "t" test and Wilcoxon signed rank test with a=0.05.Results: The result of this research were average blood pressure after drinking CEE was 109,40/70, 20 mmHg; while blood pressure before drinking CEE was 116, 02/74, 79 mmHg (p<0.001).Conclusions: Celery (Apium graveolens L.) can reduced both systolic and diastolic blood pressure.

Abstract

Dengan berdasarkan latar belakang dan kondisi awal yang didapat, peneliti menggunakan layanan orientasi belajar sebagai layanan yang dapat meningkatkan motivasi berprestasi pada siswa. Layanan ini dinyatakan berhasil karena terjadi peningkatan-peningkatan pada kinerja guru dan aktivitas siswa dalam siklus I dan II, sehingga berdampak pada meningkatnya motivasi berprestasi pada siswa. Kata Kunci : Motivasi Berprestasi

Abstract

In the globalization era, acupuncture can be used as a  treatment for several medication when purposeswestern medicine is not effective enough or contraindicated. Recently acupuncture has been used world wide, including in Indonesia. Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disturbance of carbohydrate metabolism due to less production or  utilization of insulin, with  symptoms like hyperglycemia, glucosuria, polyphagia, polydipsia and polyuria. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Diabetes Mellitus is known as Xiao Ke. It is a condition when San Jiao  is attacked by inner heat and the result is body fuid imbalance. Acute complication is ketoacidosis,  while chronic complications are usually nephropathy, retinopathy, polyneuropathy and cardiovascular diseases. Oral hypoglycemic agents or insulin are usually given for the treatment, while diet and exercise must also be done properly. Acupuncture can  also be chosen as an alternative/complementary treatment and the result is effective and without side effects.Keywords: diabetes mellitus, acupuncture

Abstract

This research was intended to determine the effect of crude bromelain enzym withdifferent concentration to catfish (Clarias gariepinus) sauce. The fuction of crude bromelainenzym as catalysator which helping of hydrolisis in catfish (Clarias gariepinus) saucefermentation. The crude bromelin enzym extracted from fruit of pineapple. Crude bromelainenzym concentration which used for this research was 3% (B3), 6% (B6), and 9% (B9). The bestconcentration of crude bromelain enzym for catfish sauce quality was B9, because producedhighest hydrolisat volume and protein content which was 99.67 ml, 77.86% (bk) respectively.Total oganoleptic value which made with 9% concentration of crude enzym bromelain the wasmost favorable by consumer acceptance with 5.21 colour value, 4.36 taste value, 8.07 texturevalue and 5.91 odor value.Keywords : Fermentation , catfish ( Clarias gariepinus ), Crude bromelain enzym,fish sauce

Abstract

Papua and offshore islands have rich in fauna diversity. Four Cloacininae nematodes have joint been reported from Salawati Island, a small island nearby Papua, i. e. Cervonemella reardoni Beveridge, 2001, Cloacina syphax Beveridge & Speare, 1999, Cloacina polymela Beveridge, 2002 and Cloacina procris Beveridge, 2002. They are from Dorcopsis muelleri (Schlegel, 1866). Herein, those nematodes are also reported with descriptions and illustrations.

Abstract

Tuna fish (Auxis thazard) has high economic value in Medan. This research was conducted to investigate the impact of exploitation on Tuna fish stock and was from November 2014 to April 2015. Data obtained in KUD location Gabion Belawan. The objective of this research is to study stock condition of Tuna fish based on length-weight relationship, Von-Bertalanffy growth parameter, condition factor, mortality and level of exploitation. Total length data was measured from 555 fish the average of total length was from 183-402 mm. Separation of cohort length groups using Bhattacharya method produced four length frequency. Growth coefficient (K) was 0.38 per year, L infinity (L∞) 411.60 mm and t0 – 1.42 per year. Based on the long relationship expressed heavy growth patterns swordfish in the waters of the Strait of Malacca is alometrik negative, the value of the average condition factor 0,51 – 2,59, it showed the fish in suitable circumstances. Total mortality rate (Z) is 1,95 per year, natural mortality (M) 0,43 per year, and the rate of cacth mortality (F) 1,46 per year to obtain the exploitation rate of 0,74.
