Abstract

A review of waterwheel history has conducted to evaluate the possibility and thetechnology development in its relation to harvest the energy from the flowing water inand out of irrigation canal regarding the tidal movement. The study has conducted atthe east shore of South Sumatra. Hydro energy became a promising renewable energyin order to achieve at least 5% of total Indonesian national energy mix consumption in 2025. Tidal turbine energy is technologically potential for Indonesian futureregarding the beach of 81,000 kilometers long and 20 millions hectares of tidalswamp area out of 33 millions hectares available. Mechanical torque of 30 Nm isproduced by a waterwheel of 0.38 meter radius. An estimation of 60 watt at the peakof rain season could harvested from each tidal irrigation canal in Telang II. Thismechanical energy is applicable to generate small quantity water pump, water aerationinjector and small electric energy energy appliances.

Abstract

Kebutuhan energi yang meningkat di masyarakat, dapat berdampak terhadap kelangkaan bahan bakar minyak sehingga menjadi ketergantungan terhadap energi sebagai kebutuhan utama. Pengembangan diversifikasi produk berupa briket campuran tebu tibarau dan kulit durian sebagai upaya dalam mendapatkan bahan bakar alternatif. Sumber energi terbarukan yang berpotensi dijadikan bahan bakar briket berbahan baku tebu tibarau dan kulit durian. Upaya dan inovasi briket campuran tebu tibarau dan kulit durian yang dihasilkan sebagai bahan bakar alternatif sehingga mempunyai karakteristik terhadap kualitas dan performa yaitu nilai kalornya. Tahapan ujicoba dan evaluasi terhadap briket campuran tebu tibarau dan kulit durian diperlukan sebelum dikembangkan dan direkomendasi sebagai bahan bakar alternatif. Melalui teknologi proses pembuatan produk briket dengan kompaksi dan optimalisasi kandungan komposisi dan penggunaan jenis perekat sehingga diperoleh nilai kalornya. Dari penelitian ini diperoleh briket campuran tebu tibarau dan kulit durian yang direkomendasikan sebagai bahan bakar alternatif. Karakteristik nilai kalor briket campuran tebu tibarau dan kulit durian yang tertinggi dengan perekat gambir diperoleh sebesar 16967,91 kJ/Kg dan massa jenis 682,23 Kg/m3. Briket (biomassa) yang memiliki massa jenis (densitas) yang tinggi memiliki nilai kalor yang tinggi pula. Perbandingan komposisi campuran pada pembuatan briket yaitu 40% : 40% : 20%. Komposisi campuran antara bahan baku dengan perekat, besaran butir, gaya penekanan (kompaksi) sangat  mempengaruhi karakteristik nilai kalor dan massa jenis briket tersebut.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengevaluasi aktivitas antelmintik ekstrak etanol biji Veitchia merrillii terhadap nematoda intestinal, Ascaridia galli. Metode fitokimia dilakukan untuk menguji keberadaan jenis kimiawi di dalam ekstrak. Efek dari ekstrak tersebut ditentukan melalui in vitro berdasarkan hambatan pergerakan dan kematian cacing. Sebanyak empat ekor cacing masing diperlakukan triplikat dalam phosphate buffered saline, 25 mg/mL, dan 75 mg/mL larutan ekstrak V. merrillii, dan 15 mg/mL albendazole. Pergerakan cacing diamati pada interval 9, 18, 27, dan 36 jam. Kematian cacing ditentukan berdasarkan ada tidaknya pergerakan badan, bagian kepala, dan ekor cacing. Kami menemukan bahwa larutan ekstrak V. merrillii mengandung tanin, alkaloid, flavonoid, triterpenoid, saponin, tetapi tidak mengandung steroid. Berdasarkan percobaan in vitro, penggunaan konsentrasi 25 dan 75 mg/mL ekstrak V. merrillii menunjukkan efek antelmintik. Ekstrak V. merrillii tersebut hanya efektif pada konsentrasi 75 mg/mL. Kajian tersebut mengindikasikan bahwa antelmintik berbasis herbal untuk mengendalikan A. galli berpontesi dikembangkan.

Abstract

Pathology anatomy changes in liver and bile duct of Aceh cattle infected with fasciola giganticABSTRACT. This study was conducted in Banda Aceh Municipality, Aceh Province to report the pathological changes in liver of Aceh cattle infected with Fasciola gigantica. In this study, livers of male aceh cattles were collected from slaughter area when Qurban in Idul Adha during two years (2011 to 2012). A total of 15 aceh cattle livers were examined. Establishment of F. gigantica were observed, and pathological changes of liver were identified. The result showed that out of 15 male Aceh cattle livers 6 (40%) were found infected with F. gigantica. The common pathological changes found in this study were the hepatic damage, and the bile ducts were changes in size and shape with the dilated lumen. The bile ducts were found filled with blackish brown exudate, which contained adult F. gigantica. In conclusion, fascioliasis is greatly responsible for hepatic damage, and currently expanding as an important veterinary public health problem.

Abstract

Tercatat pada tahun 2017 ada sekitar 7,5 triliun jumlah populasi manusia dengan angka pertumbuhan 1 triliun setiap 12 tahun. Peningkatan populasi ini terjadi 95% di negara berkembang. Setiap tahun ada sekitar 80 juta wanita di seluruh dunia setiap tahunnya mengalami kehamilan yang tidak diinginkan dan sebagian besar wanita pada kelompok ini menggunakan beberapa metode kontrasepsi yang telah tersedia. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan metode kontrasepsi baru dan lebih baik yang dapat diterima, efektif, dapat dijangkau dan tersedia diberbagai negara berkembang, yaitu dengan metode kontrasepsi imunologi. Salah satu metode kontrasepsi imunologi pada wanita adalah vaksin hCG. Vaksin hCG ini pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh Talwar, et al pada tahun 1976 dan menjadi satu-satunya metode kontrasepsi imunologi yang telah melewati uji klinis fase II. hCG merupakan target potensial dan terbaik dalam mencegah kehamilan tanpa adanya efek samping yang merugikan. Berbeda dari kontrasepsi steroid yang dapat menghambat ovulasi, metode vaksin hCG tidak menganggu ovulasi dan produksi hormon steorid seks serta tidak menganggu keteraturan siklus menstruasi. Baik protein ujung C (CTP) dari β-hCG maupun β-hCGnya sendiri telah digunakan sebagai kandidat imunogen untuk mengembangkan kontrasepsi imunologi. Metode ini diketahui aman, efektif menekan angka kehamilan dan bersifat reversibel.

Abstract

Sie balu is an Acehnese dried meat preserved by the addition of salt, acid and dried. However, long processing and drying it under the sun can cause meat products contaminated by Salmonella. Irradiation can eliminate  Salmonella  and  other  pathogenic  bacteria  in  food.  This  study  aims  to  determine  the  presence  of Salmonella in sie balu after irradiated with increasing doses and 2 to 4 months shelf life. Sie balu was made of 5 kg fresh beef, dried under the sun to dry, vacuum and irradiated at doses of 5, 7 and 9 kGy. Salmonella was detected using bacteriological and biochemical tests. Results showed sie balu contaminated by Salmonella paratyphi B and Salmonella cholerasuis. The irradiation and shelf life significantly affect (P<0.05) the count of Salmonella in sie balu compared with unirradiated one. Irradiation doses of 5, 7 and 9 kGy do not affect the count of Salmonella in sie balu. Extending the shelf life up to 4 months can increas the count of Salmonella. This study concluded that irradiated sie balu at doses of 5, 7 and 9 kGy can be stored for up to two months

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to characterize the bacterial 16S rRNA gene of Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii) Bukittinggi West Sumatera zoo. The sample used in this study are lactic acid bacteria of the Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii) derived from zoo Bukittinggi West Sumatra Indonesia. This study was an exploratory study that conducted at the Laboratory through several stages. The first stage was the isolation of LAB from faeces of Sumatran orangutans using MRS agar medium and then cultured in a liquid medium NB. The next stage was the isolation of total DNA, and then, the third stage was the amplification of the 16S rRNA gene and agarose gel electrophoresis. Then,in the fourth stage of determining the DNA sequence and analysis of DNA sequence homology. The final stage was the computational analysis of 16S rRNA gene Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii). The results showed that lactic acid bacteria (LAB) from the Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii) is close to lactic acid bacteria Lactobacillus helveticus strain IMAU50151 with the levelof similarity of 89%. It is possible that these bacteria is a new species or the species that LAB has not been reported in Genbank.

Abstract

This study was aimed at finding out the investigation of mucosal mast cells   in intestines of chicken  that  were  naturally  infected  by  Ascaridia galli.  Amount  of  ten  intestine  of  freshly slaughtered chickens (Gallus domesticus) found from local abatoir in Banda Aceh were divided into two groups containing five intestines of each. Mucosal mast cells count were done of which histologic slides were made in stained serial histological sections with Alcian blue (pH 0,3) and Safranin-O (pH 0,1) of the intestines. The result showed that the mucosal mast cells increased significantly (P < 0.05) in intestines of chickens infected naturally by survival A. galli adult worms. It was concluded that the intestinal defense of chickens against parasite infection is associated with the mucosal mast cells contribution by creating an environment hostile to the establishment and survival of intestinal nematodes, A. galli.

Abstract

ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengetahuan dan sikap pemilik rumah makan terhadap rantai pengolahan daging ayam di Banda Aceh. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Januari 2017 di beberapa rumah makan di Banda Aceh. Penelitian dilakukan dalam bentuk survei lapangan dengan mewawancarai responden menggunakan kuesioner terstruktur. Responden dipilih secara proporsional terhadap pemilik rumah makan di Banda Aceh. Kriteria responden meliputi berumur ≥ 20 tahun, pemilik rumah makan yang menjual olahan daging ayam, rumah makan dengan kebutuhan daging ayamnya ≥ 20 ekor/hari dan pemilik rumah makan di lokasi penelitian. Data hasil penelitian dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian terhadap 45 responden menunjukkan bahwa pengetahuan pemilik rumah makan terhadap rantai pengolahan daging ayam tergolong baik, namun sikap pemilik rumah makan terhadap rantai pengolahan daging ayam tergolong kurang baik, karena 22,22% responden menggunakan alat potong (pisau) yang sama dengan sayuran, serta 48,89% responden tidak mencuci tangan sebelum mengolah daging ayam.Kata kunci : pengetahuan, sikap, pemilik rumah makan, daging ayam, rantai pengolahan.ABSTRACT This study was aims to determine the knowledge and attitude of restaurant owners on chicken meat processing chain in Banda Aceh. This study was conducted in January 2017 in several restaurants in Banda Aceh. This research was conducted in the form of a field survey by interviewing respondents using a structured questionnaire. Respondents were selected proportionally which is restaurant owners in Banda Aceh. The criteria of respondents were aged ≥ 20 years, restaurant owners who sell chicken, restaurants that needs ≥ 20 chicken / day and restaurant owners in the study site. Data were analyzed descriptively. The results of 45 respondent shows that the knowledge of restaurant owners on chicken meat processing chain is quite good, but the majority of owners attitude towards chicken meat processing chain relatively poor because 22,22% of respondents using the same knife with vegetables and 48,89% of respondents do not wash their hands before treating chicken meat.Keyword : knowledge, attitude, restaurant owners, chicken meat, processing chain.

Abstract

TOTAL BAKTERI ASAM LAKTAT (BAL) PADA CAECUM BURUNG PUYUH (Coturnix japonica )  ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui total bakteri asam laktat (BAL) pada caecum puyuh (Coturnix japonica). Sampel yang digunakan adalah ± 1 gram isi caecum dari 6 ekor puyuh yang terdiri dari tiga ekor puyuh jantan dan tiga ekor puyuh betina. Penghitungan total koloni bakteri dilakukan dengan metode Total Plate Count (TPC). Bakteri di tanam pada media MRSA (De Man Rogosa Sharpe Agar) dengan metode spread plate (cawan sebar) setelah dilakukan pengenceran desimal dengan pengenceran 10-1-10-7. Koloni yang tumbuh diamati morfologi koloninya (warna, bentuk, pinggiran, diameter koloni dan elavasi) selanjutnya dilakukan pewarnaan Gram. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa jumlah BAL, pada caecum puyuh jantan adalah 3,06x107 CFU/ml sedangkan pada puyuh betina adalah 21,4 x106 CFU/ml. Dari hasil penelitian dapat diketahui bahwa jumlah bakteri asam laktat (BAL) pada puyuh jantan lebih tinggi dibandingkan pada puyu  h betina. Oleh karena itu dapat disimpulkan bahwa jumlah BAL pada puyuh jantan lebih banyak dari pada puyuh betina.The Amount Of Lactic  Acid Bacteria (LAB) In Caecum Of The Quail’s (Coturnix japonica)                                             ABSTRACTThis research was concluted to count the total of lactic acid bacteria in the caecum of quail’s. About 1 gram of fluid from the caecum of three male and three female quail’s were used for this study. The total of lactic acid bacteria in caecum count based on total plate count (TPC) method. The bacteria are inconculated in MRSA(De Man Rogosa Sharpe Agar) with spread plate method after serial dilution dilution (10-1-10-7) were prepared. Colony that grow in MRSA were examined for morfology colony and Gram’s stain. The result show the total of lactic acid bacteria in male quail’s is 3,06 x107CFU/ml and in female quail’s is 21,4 x106 CFU/ml. In conclution, the total colony of lactic acid bacteria of male quail’s is higher than in female quail’s.
