Correlation of Energy-Protein Consumption with Blood Glucose Levels and Blood Pressure of Primary School Children in Kupang East of Nusa Tenggara Province Participating in School-Feeding Program

Abstract

The Objective of this study was to observe correlation of energy-protein consumption with blood glucose levels and blood pressure of primary school children in Kupang East of Nusa Tenggara province participating in school-feeding program. The result of the study showed that on the day without school feeding 99,6% (pre) and 97% (post) of children had normal blood glucose levels and 86,3% (pre) and 87,2% (post) of children had normal systolic blood pressure but 78,2% (pre) and 68,4% (post) of children had hypotension of diastolic blood pressure. While on the school-feeding day 100% (pre and post) of children had normal blood glucose levels, 85,5% (pre) and 86,8% (post) of children had normal systolic blood pressure and 95,3% (pre) and 95,7% (post) of children had hypotension of diastolic blood pressure. There was 0,4% (pre) and 3% (post) of children had hypoglicemic status. The means of energy-protein consumption indicated that most of the children had a severe deficit of energy-protein intakes. On the day without school-feeding 32,1% and 47,4% of children had a severe deficit of energy-protein intakes. That percentages were raised on the school-feeding day. While on the school-feeding day 49,6% and 57,7% of children had a severe deficit of energy-protein intakes. The Spearman’s analysis showed that between energy-protein intakes and blood glucose levels as well as blood pressure were not significantly correlated.Keyword: consumption, glucose, blood pressure

Abstract

To minimize the effects of antinutrient contents in red bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L) two methods of drying were tested, i.e. oven and drum drier, to produce bean flour. The flour produced then was used as substitute ingredient to make cookies for baby food. The results of this study showed that drum drier are more effective than oven drier as indicated by chemicals and financial analyses. The 50% substitute of bean flour into cookies is preferred by panelists compared to 0% to 40%. This level of substitution has also the cheapest price in production cost. It is recommended that babies should eat 3-4 cookies per day to fulfill the nutrient requirement.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze and to compare the level substitute of red bean flour (Phaseolus vulgaris L) in producing porriddge for the baby foods. The level substitutes of flour are from 0%, 10%, 20%, 30% and 40%. The study showed that the 30% substitute has the highest contents in protein (16,37%) and energy (103,4 cal). It is recommended that the baby should eat 165-gram porridge per day to fulfill the nutrient requirement.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was (1) to study the process of making carrot brem as an alternative source of b-carotene products, and (2) to study the chemical characteristics of carrot brem produced. The research was carried out during April-June 1999 at the Food Experimental Laboratory of Department of GMSK, Faculty of Agriculture IPB Bogor. Several levels of dextrin (27%, 30% and 33%) were added to the carrot juice to produce carrot brem in comparison to the addition of sticky rice to the carrot juice. The carrot brem produced was then analyzed for its chemical characteristics and was evaluated by 30 trained-panelist for its organoleptics performance. Abstract

Torbangun soup is made by traditionally recipe as Batak cuisine. A packaging technique has applied by canned the soup to produce Torbangun soup for commercially market. An antioxidant is added to prevent rancidity and to prolong shelf life of canned soup. Regarding to quality analysis, the shelf life of canned Torbangun soup is 14 days in room temperature. The effort has been done by storage the product in cool temperature (5 - 8°C and 10 - 12°C) and resulted in longer shelf life until 22 days. In spite of antioxidant adding, pasteurization at temperature of 75°C for 15 minutes prior canned can result on longer shelf life of the soup. However, can is metal and it might some hazard substance migrate into product. The study showed that the amount of the total residue migrate from can into soup is lower than 10 mg/dm2 allowing by the Directive 90/128/EEC for aqueous food simulant. A total migration test using 95% alcohol gave a value of 37.4435 mg/dm2, means higher than that EU standard as 10 mg/dm2. Keyword: Torbangun leaf soup, total migration, canning method

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Torbangun leaves (Coleus ambonicus Lour) is one of type of species from Labiatae family which contains a lot of micronutrient and active element which have been examined as beneficial for human health and quality of life. The plants containing iridoid and flavonoid as well as phytochemical which deal with reproduction hormone is applicable to traditional medication toward PMS cases. Methods: The present study was aimed to assess the efficacy of CAL leaves in the management of PMS. An experimental clinical trial was conducted in 35 teenagers with PMS. Three intervention groups were defined: CAL leaves; commercial preparation; and placebo. Participants were followed-up individually for 1 month. Result: The results showed average menarche occurred around age 13 years, with menstruation lasting 5 days. During each successive treatment cycle, participants experienced a lower pain intensity score. Chi Square test, after adjusting each cycle for baseline pain, treatment compliance and other variables, showed that the group receiving CAL extract had significantly reduced pain intensity (p<0.05) compared with commercial preparation and placebo. Conclusion: The torbangun leaves supplement can be used as treatment to relief symptoms of the premenstrual syndrome. Abstract

ABSTRACTThe objective of this research were to analyze the effect of snack feeding, nutrition education, and iron supplementation to nutritional status, nutrition knowledge, and anemia status in elementary school students. The study was conducted in SDN Palasari 02 Kecamatan Cijeruk, Kabupaten Bogor, Jawa Barat. The design of this study was pre-post intervention study. The number of subjects were 81 students. The result showed that snacking did not give significant improvement on nutritional status (p>0.05). Nutrition education was significant in improving nutrition knowledge (p<0.05), while iron supplementation intake gave a significant improvement on anemia status (p<0.05).Keywords: anemia status, nutrition knowledge, nutritional status, snack foodABSTRAKTujuan penelitian ini adalah menganalisis pengaruh pemberian makanan jajanan, pendidikan gizi, dan suplementasi besi terhadap status gizi, pengetahuan gizi, dan status anemia pada siswa sekolah dasar. Abstract

Supplementary feeding program for needy student was designed to supplement target groups daily normal diet with the type of food nuded to alleviate their nutritional deficits. The location of the program was at the male and female students dormitory of IPB Campus in Darmaga Bogor. The implementation of the program was started in November 2005 until June 2006. The result showed that the average of energy and protein intake of program participant increased significantly after the completion of the program. Accordingly, the prevalence of anemia in female students decreased while in male students the prevalence was constant. Moreover. average of serum ferritin of females increased while serum ferritin of males remained constant. After completion of the program, the number of underweight students decreased The number of female and male students who were shiftingfrom underweight to normal category was increased. Nutrition knowledge of students participant were categorized as good Academic performance (GPA) of student participants (3.01) indicated higher than non-participant (2.85).

Pemerintah Indonesia telah menyusun kebijakan nasional yang membatasi promosi susu formula bayi di kalangan tenaga kesehatan, yang merupakan adopsi dari International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Subtitues. Walaupun telah dikeluarkan kebijakan-kebijakan tersebut, tetapi masih dijumpai berbagai pelanggaran di kalangan tenaga kesehatan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis faktor-faktor yang berhubungan dengan tindakan bidan terhadap kebijakan menyusui. Desain penelitian ini adalah cross sectional study. Penelitian dilakukan pada bulan Januari-April 2015 di Kota Bogor. Pada penelitian ini terdiri dari 39 bidan dan 76 ibu bayi. Pengetahuan bidan terhadap isi kebijakan tergolong rendah sedangkan sikap dan tindakan bidan tergolong baik. Variabel-variabel yang menunjukkan hubungan yang signifikan dengan tindakan bidan adalah lama pengalaman praktik, tempat kerja, tingkat pengetahuan dan sikap. Usia dan pendidikan bidan merupakan variabel yang tidak berhubungan signifikan dengan tindakan bidan. Lama pengalaman praktik, tempat kerja, tingkat pengetahuan dan sikap merupakan faktor-faktor yang berhubungan dengan tindakan bidan terhap pesan-pesan dalam kebijakan.Kata kunci : Sikap, pengetahuan, kebijakan, bidan, tindakan
