Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of mangrove forests with different densities to the production of tiger shrimp and the factor effect were production of tiger shrimp in silvofishery pond. This study conducted in silvofishery pond in Tanjung Ibus village, Sub-district Secanggang, District of Langkat on Mei untilt October 2013, by using 2 research stations. Pond 1 was a pond with high density, and pond 2 was a pond with low density. Mangrove vegetation analysis has been done by measuring the density of seedlings, saplings and tree in each research station. Water quality and plankton sampling performed at each pond in 2 station at the inlet and the center of the pond. Sampling has been done 4 times, when the fry will bes tocked, two-month preservation period, four-month preservation period and five-month preservation period. tiger shrimp production data obtained from direct observations during the harvesting process. Mangrove density in ponds 1 for seedlings was 202 ind/ha, saplings 111 ind/ha, and tree level 958 ind/ha. Mangrove density in ponds 2 for seedlings was 56 ind/ha, saplings 272 ind/ha, and tree level 47 ind/ha. The water quality in pond 1 in general of the criteria for the aquaculture tiger shrimp be based on The Decision Minister of Marine and Fisheries No : 28 in 2004. Abundance of plankton in the pond 2 was higher than the pond 1. Tiger shrimp production in pond 1 was 42 kg, and in pond 2 was 29 kg.Keyword : Mangrove, Plankton, Silvofishery, Tiger shrimp, Water quality.

Abstract

Babura River is one of the three river in Medan.Where this river is already contaminated which is caused by the plastic product disposal, disposal of household waste that flowed trough the trenches, and also the disposal of the waste water of the tofu industry. The purpose of this research is to know more regarding how far the effect of the disposal of the waste water of the tofu industry to the quality of Babura River. This research was conducted in August until September 2013 with determining 3 stations. Which every stations divided into three point for water sampling which is taken 100 m from every station. The physic and chemical parameter that is taken for observed are temperature, brightness of the water, Colour, Turbidity, TSS,TDS,DO, BOD, COD, Nitrate, Phosphate and pH.Based on the result of the research using the storet methode we got total score of the each stations in the amount of -29 in the station 1, -22 in the station 2 and -30 in the stations 3 based on the result we can conclude that the contaminations level from the three stations is categorized as c class contaminations which is contaminated with score -11 up to -30.Keywords: Babura river, Storet methods, waste water from tofu industry

Abstract

The river has an important role in the life of every living creature. In his role, the water will affect and are affected by the condition / other components. Water is often contaminated by inorganic components include a variety of dangerous heavy metals. Some heavy metals are widely used in a variety of daily needs and directly or indirectly, can pollute the environment and when it exceeds the limit specified hazardous to life. This study aims to analyze the content of heavy metal lead (Pb) and Copper (Cu) in the central part of Belawan River flow and water quality based Belawan River water quality standards. This research was conducted in March-April 2014 in the district of Medan Belawan River Sunggal Medan. The number of stations observed were 3 stations. Parameters measured were physical-chemical parameters of waters, concentrations of heavy metals lead and copper in the water column were analyzed using Atomic Abrsorption Spectrophotometry (AAS). Concentrations of heavy metals Lead (Pb) in water between 0 to 0.241 mg / l, and the concentration of heavy metals Copper (Cu) between 0 to 0.025 mg / l. This shows the heavy metal content of Pb and Cu in the central part of Belawan River flow has exceeded the standard.Keywords : Heavy metals Pb, Heavy metals Cu, Belawan River

Abstract

Bilih Fish (Mystacoleucus padangensis Bleeker) is fishing commodities in the Aek Alian River District Toba Samosir. Aek Alian River recently becomes a source of fish production Bilih Fish. The presence of this fish is could help the economy of people surrounding, but activities of catching uncontroled is one of the cause of decreasing of fish population. This Study has the objectives on accessing the growth and condition factor in the Aek Alian River. Research was conducted in May to Juni 2014. by using Purposive Sampling method. Stations spreaded among river with the station I (upstream), station II (midstream), and station III (estuaries). Primary data consisted of a total length and weight in individual fish of Bilih from the field. The sample number of Bilih fish were 281 individuals which consisted of 82 male and 199 female. The growth pattern (B) of Bilih fish is negative allometrict with value of B is 2.870 male and 2.868 female. The comparison of male and female is 1:2.427. Factor condition of Bilih fish shows 0.930 male and 0.942 female which means that the body of fish is bony or less fat.Keyword : Growth, Bilih fish resources, Mystacoleucus padangensis Bleeker, Aek Alian River

Abstract

Goldfish is the most desirable ornamental. The market demand required intensive cultivation. Intensive cultivation can be done by optimizing stocking density. This study aims to determine the effect of stocking density on survival and growth rate of goldfish (Carassius auratus) as well as to determine the maximum stocking density goldfish with an average length 4,16 cm and average weight 1,84 grams. The experimental design used was Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three treatments is stocking density 1 fish / liter (P1), 2 fish / liter (P2), and 3 fish / liter (P3) and repeated 3 times. Treatment P1 shows the growth rate of weight daily and length growth rate that equal to the best daily is 2,75% and 0,87%. Stocking density significantly affect the growth rate of the long and weight growth rate daily but did not significantly affect survival. DMRT furthertest results indicate treatments P3 is significantly different from P1.Keywords: Carassius auratus, Goldfish, Growth Rate, Stocking Density, Survival Rate.

Abstract

The bacteria in fish can be found on the surface of body and the digestivetract. Some bacteria in digestive tract contribute to feed digestion by producesenzymes. Probiotics have been used to influences feed digestion and to inhibitionpotential pathogenic bacteria in fish. In this study, isolation of potential probioticbacteria from gourami stomach and intestine and assay of potential probiotic toinhibition Aeromonas hydrophila has been conducted. Bacteria isolation wasconducted using Tryptic Soy Agar (TSA) Media. Starch Agar (SA) and SkimMilk Agar (SMA) media to hydrolyze starch and casein tests. The result showed17 isolates hydrolyzed starch and casein. In addition, the isolates indicated toinhibit A. hydrophila. Morphological and biochemical tests showed 4 isolate ofpotential probiotic bacteria in the stomach and intestine of gourami (Osphronemusgouramy), were Bacillus cereus, Bacillus firmus, Bacillus coagulans, andMicrococcus sp.. B.cereus was more potential and dominate in the stomach andintestines.Keywords: A. hydrophila, B. cereus, B. firmus, B. coagulans, Micrococcus sp.,O. gouramy, Potential Probiotic.

Abstract

Activities in Belawan River has caused water quality degradation, such asecological conditions of biota particularly macrozoobenthos. This research aimedto know the community structure of macrozoobenthos and water quality based onDiversity Index and Abundance and Biomass Comparison (ABC) curve. Thisresearch was conducted in Belawan River Pancur Batu sub district Deli Serdangregency from April until June 2015. The sampling was done by purposive randomsampling method at three stations for three weeks. Results of this research found 9species of macrozoobenthos divided into 6 family and 2 classes, those wereGastropods and Insecta. The density was ranged from 4.33 to 45.0 ind /m2, whilediversity index 1.29 to 1.51 with medium level of diversity rate. Evenness indexwas ranged from 0.72 to 0.78 and dominance index was ranged from 0.24 to 0.25.The water quality of Belawan River was divided into two categories, based on thediversity index was medium polluted category and based on ABC curve was notpolluted – medium polluted categories.Keywords: Macrozoobenthos, Community Structure, Diversity Index, ABC Curve,Pollution Levels
