Abstract

This study aims to describe enhancement and achievement of mathematical critical thinking skills of students who received the 5E Learning Cycle with Metacognitive technique, the 5E Learning Cycle, and conventional learning. This study use experimental method with pretest-posttest control group design. Population are junior high school students in Indramayu city, Indonesia. Sample are three classes of eighth grade students from high level school and three classes from medium level school. The study reveal that in terms of overall, mathematical critical thinking skills enhancement and achievement of students who received the 5E Learning Cycle with Metacognitive technique is better than students who received the 5E Learning Cycle and conventional learning. Mathematical critical thinking skills of students who received the 5E Learning Cycle is better than students who received conventional learning. There is no interaction effect between learning model and school level toward enhancement and achievement of students’ mathematical critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to examine the forms of representation constructed by primary school students in solving mathematical problems. Representation is the basis or foundation of how a student could understand and use mathematical ideas. The forms of representation, such as charts, graphs, and symbols, are essentially a long process of learning mathematics, but unfortunately these representations are often thought of and studied in its final form. Actually, representations should be given as support in the process of understanding concepts, the associations of mathematics, mathematical communication, constructing arguments, and apply mathematical concepts in everyday life through modeling. This research showed that the forms of representation constructed by the students are extremely varied. They are constructed in tables, images, patterns, and in the formal forms of mathematics (the formula). This study was also revealed that some students are able to develop forms of representation using logical mathematical processes. Students begin to formulate a representation using known premise, set the table, make conjecture, and subsequently arrange a formal representation.Keywords: mathematic representation, tables, charts, graphs, statements.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi, kemampuan berpikir reflektif, dan kemampuan berpikir kreatif siswa SMA, (2) mengetahui respon siswa terhadap pembelajaran matematika dengan pendekatan open-ended. Penelitian ini merupakan studi eksperiment dengan desain penelitian bentuk pretest dan posttest yang dilaksanakan di Kota dan Kabupaten Bandung, dengan subyek utama siswa SMA dari beberapa sekolah. Penelitian ini menggunakan beberapa jenis instrumen yaitu tes tulis, observasi, angket, jurnal siswa, dan pedoman wawancara. Data dianalisis secara kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa; (1) kemampuan komunikasi matematik siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran dengan menggunakan pendekatan open-ended lebih meningkat daripada siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran matematika dengan model ekspositori, (2) terdapat peningkatan kemampuan berpikir reflektif siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran matematika dengan menggunakan pendekatan open-ended melalui model pembelajaran kooperatif. Berdasarkan hasil perhitungan, peningkatan yang terjadi tergolong dalam kategori sedang dengan perolehan rata-rata sebesar 0,31, (3) peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kreatif siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran pemecahan masalah matematis terbuka (open-ended) lebih baik dibandingkan dengan siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran ekspositori, (4) respon siswa terhadap pembelajaran matematika dengan pendekatan open-ended positif.Kata kunci: open-ended, kemampuan berfikir kreatif, kemampuan berfikir reflektif, kemampuan komunikasi matematik

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi dan kemampuan pemecahan masalah pada matematika dengan jenis percobaan kuasi-penelitian menggunakan desain kelompok kontrol non-ekuivalen. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh mahasiswa di sekolah SMP di Pekanbaru, dan ekstraksi sampel dalam penelitian ini dengan teknik purposive sampling. Sampel adalah mahasiswa di kelas IX di SMP. Dalam penelitian ini dibandingkan dua kelompok, yaitu belajar dengan Strategi REACT untuk kelompok eksperimen dan pembelajaran konvensional untuk kelompok kontrol. Masing-masing kelompok terdiri dari 39 siswa dibagi menjadi tiga kategori kemampuan matematika siswa terhadap siswa yang berbeda mampu tinggi, menengah, dan rendah. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam bentuk tes dan non-tes. Hasil yang diperoleh adalah (1) peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematika untuk memperoleh pembelajaran dengan strategi REAKSI lebih baik daripada siswa yang menerima pembelajaran konvensional, (2) tidak ada perbedaan dalam matematika kemampuan komunikasi antara siswa yang sangat Dan siswa menengah yang memperoleh REAKSI strategi; (3 ) ada peningkatan perbedaan kemampuan komunikasi antara siswa yang memperoleh dengan REAKSI strategi dengan siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran dengan konvensional dan kategori kemampuan matematika siswa, (4) terdapat interaksi antara pembelajaran dan kategori kemampuan matematika siswa fo dalam kemampuan peningkatan komunikasi matematika , (5) strategi REAKSI efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi matematika siswa.Kata kunci: strategi REACT, komunikasi, efektivitas

Abstract

The focus of this research is on the development of mathematics teaching and learning activity which is based on the application of computer software. The aim of research is as follows : 1) to identify some mathematics topics which feasible to be presented by computer-based e-learning, 2) design, develop, and implement computer-based e-learning on mathematics, and 3) analyze the impact of computer-based e-learning in the enhancement of SMA students’ high order mathematical thinking. All activity in this research achieved in 2 phases. In the first phase, the following activities are conducted: analysis theoretically topics which are difficult to be delivered by conventional methods, need too many repetitions, need high accuracy, need high speed process, and can be presented more interestingly. In the second phase, the following activities are conducted: designing, developing, and implementing a number of teaching and research instruments; implementing computer-based e-learning on mathematics for SMA students’, and analyzing the impact of computer-based e-learning in the enhancement of SMA students’ high- order mathematical thinking. Key words: computer-based e-learning model, high-order mathematical thinking

Abstract

Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemampuan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal matematika berbasis masalah dan mengetahui respon siswa terhadap soal matematika berbasis masalah yang diberikan. Penelitian ini termasuk penelitian kuantitatif diskriptif. Subyek penelitian ini adalah 6 siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 11 Yogyakarta yang terdiri dari 2 siswa berkemampuan matematika tinggi, sedang, dan rendah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa seluruh subyek penelitian memiliki kemampuan dalam menyelesaikan soal matematika berbasis masalah dengan berbagai tingkatan. Selanjutnya, siswa memiliki respon positif terhadap seluruh soal yang diberikan. Kata Kunci. Kemampuan matematika, Soal matematika berbasis masalah, Sistem persamaan linier dua variabel Abstract. The study aims to determine the ability of students in solving the mathematics problem-based and to know the students’ response to the problem-based math problems provided. This research uses descriptive quantitative research. The research’s subjects are 6 students of class VIII SMP Negeri 11 Yogyakarta consisting of 2 students with high, medium, and low math skills. The results showed that all research subjects have the ability to solve problem-based math problems with various levels. Abstract

Representative ability is the ability to express mathematical ideas that are used to show the results of his work in certain ways as a result of the interpretation of his mind. Based on the results of observations obtained data that the class on IX-G SMP 2 Bandung experienced a difficulty in presenting mathematical ideas. Difficulties experienced by students of class IX-G are a problem that must be addressed immediately because of how students can express mathematical ideas if students cannot develop representations properly. After the initial test, it turns out that the representation ability of students in class IX-G is in the low category. Based on the background of the problem found, the researcher carried out classroom action research to overcome the problems experienced by class IX-G. The objectives of this study are: (1) Knowing the increase in students' mathematical representation abilities with discovery learning models in class IX-G of SMP Negeri 2 Bandung. (2) Describing the response of students of class IX-G SMP Negeri 2 Bandung to the implementation of learning using discovery learning models. (3) Analyzing the effectiveness of the implementation of mathematics learning by using discovery learning models in improving the ability of mathematical representation. This classroom action research was conducted in 2 cycles. The subjects in this study were class IX-G, which amounted to 32 students consisting of 18 men and 14 women. Data collection was done using formative tests of mathematical representation abilities, student response questionnaires, and observation sheets of teacher and student activities. The results of this study as a whole have been successful because they have been able to improve students' representation abilities significantly and student learning outcomes are completed in a classical manner. This can be seen by the increase in the value of classical absorption ability of students' mathematical representation abilities from cycle I to cycle II. The absorption ability of students' mathematical representation in the first cycle was 31.25%, in the second cycle it increased to 87.50%. In addition, students' responses to learning are in good criteria. The effectiveness of implementing mathematics learning by using discovery learning models in improving the ability of mathematical representation is good.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the association amongMathematical Critical Thinking (MCT) ability, Mathematical Communication, and Mathematical Curiosity Attitude (MCA) as the impact of applying Problem-Based Learning Cognitive Conflict Strategy(PBLCCS) in Number Theory course. The research method is correlative study. The instruments include a test for mathematical critical thinking skill and communication, and questionnaire to obtain the scores of mathematical curiosity attitude. The findings show that: 1) there is no association between critical thinking skill and mathematical curiosity attitude as the impact of applying problem-based learning cognitive conflict strategy, 2) there is no association between mathematical communication and curiosity attitude as the impact of applying problem-based learning and cognitive conflict strategy, and 3) the impact of applying problem-based learning cognitive conflict strategy is more influential in developing critical thinkingskillthan communication skill and curiosity.

Abstract

Abstract This Paper reports the finding from a pretest posttest experimental control group design to investigate students mathematical reasoning and disposition. The study involves 72 grade-7 students of junior high school in Ciamis. The study found that students taught by multiple intelligences teaching attained better grade than that of students taught by conventional on improvement mathematical reasoning. Multiple Intelligences teaching strategies improved students mathematical reasoning ability, it gain better than conventional teaching. There were difference between improvement mathematical reasoning ability of students taught by multiple intelligences based on categories of mathematical prior ability. Other findings, taught by multiple intelligences teaching attained better grade than that of students taught by conventional on disposition.

Abstract

This study aimed to explain the relationship between self-concept and mathematics procedural knowledge among undergraduate students of mathematics education. This study investigated the affective and cognitive aspect of students in the learning of mathematics. The method in this study surveyed with non-probability sampling technique. The subjects were 133 undergraduate students of mathematics education from public and private university in Palembang, Indonesia. 66 of them were undergraduate students in public university. The rest of them were undergraduate students in a private university. The instruments that were used are questionnaire of self-concept and essay test of mathematics procedural knowledge. The result from the Spearman Rank Correlation showed Sig. = 0.006 < 0.05. From that result, we conclude that there is a significant relationship between undergraduate students’ self-concept and their mathematics procedural knowledge.
