Abstract

Stigma towards leprosy is usually generated not only from the unpleasant appearance of the patients, but also people’s false perceptions and insufficient knowledge concerning leprosy. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between knowledge and stigmarelated attitudes, affect and behavioral intentions towards leprosy patients among medical students. A cross-sectional study was performed by distributing questionnaires consecutively to 77 medical students in a Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) 2005 of Faculty of Medicine University of Indonesia in April 2009. We assigned their gender, age, knowledge, along with sources and score of their knowledge. Then, we analyzed the relationship between knowledge and attitudes, affect and behavioral intentions towards leprosy patients. The questionnaire assessing knowledge was made by authors and experts after validity assessment (minimum alpha reliability = 0.514 and reliability coefficient = 0.845), while the questionnaire for stigmarelated attitudes, affect and behavioral intentions was adapted and translated to Bahasa from Attribution Questionnaire-Short Form (AQ-SF) after validity checking with Cronbach’s alpha; the minimum was 0.514 and the reliability coefficient 0.897. The subject consisted of 36 male and 41 female students whose age was varied from 18 to 23 years old with the most common source of knowledge concerning leprosy was school. Correlation analysis showed weak negative correlation (r = -0.267 and p = 0.019) between knowledge and AQ-SF score. The higher the knowledge, the lower the AQ-SF score, meant that stigma-related attitudes, affect, and behavioral intentions were better. Keywords: knowledge, leprosy, medical student, stigma

Abstract

Introduction: Indonesian Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) 2007 is still one of the highest in ASEAN and Asia. Proper antenatal care was thought as solution to detect and prevent any abnormalities during pregnancies and births. However, the awareness and knowledge about antenatal care among the comunities were still very low.Method: This was an observational analytical study with cross sectional design using primarydata from questionnaire filled by 107 women in reproductive age (18-50 years old) living in Duren Sawit District and its surroundings. We conducted a univariate and bivariate analysis towards acquired data. Results: There were no significant association between knowledge, attitude, behavior of antenatal care and their characteristics. However, it was found that good knowledge level would affect good behavior of antenatal care (PR 1.902; 95%CI 1.158-3.123; p=0.004).Conclusion: These results supported the needs of special education for women in reproductiveage, in order to achieve good knowledge which further lead to good behavior of antenatal care. The education could be given wihout putting special attention to their characteristics. Abstract

Abstract

Parking has become problem in some cities especially in urban area. Parking problem is not only the spaces but also its security especially for the public facilities such as offices, mall and school. This paper describes the use of RFID to overcome security problem in parking lots. This RFID is implemented in smartcard. Smartcard is connected to webam and database which consists of the information about the registered owner of vehicle. If the owner is not match then the parking bar will not open automatically. The information from webcam can be used as the proof in case of theft because webcam will record the face of rider or driver. The result shows that the implementation of RFID in smartcard works well and can be connected to the database. The furthest distance to scan RFID is 4.9 cm and the shortest is 1 cm. The best position to scan it is exactly on RFID reader.Keywords. RFID, smartcard, webcam, security, parking

Abstract

The new compounds of salicylic acid derivatives, 2- (3- (chloromethyl) benzoyloxy) benzoic acid and 2- (4- (chloromethyl) benzoyloxy) benzoic acid were synthesized to generate  better analgesic activity and lesser stomach irritation of salicylic acid. The 2- (4- (chloromethyl) benzoyloxy) benzoic acid and 2- (3- (chloromethyl) benzoiloksi) benzoic acid were synthesized by Schotten-Baumann acylation process. In this study, analgesic activity was tested  by plantar test method. The compounds were administered to the tested animals at 12.5; 25; 50; 100; and 200 mg / kg BW of doses. Analgesic activity was determined by the response time of rat to pain induced by infra red. The percentage of pain hindrance was calculated from the mean of response time to pain. Pain hindrance percentage were shown as: 74.28%; 105.58%; 110.58%; 115.29%; and 175.87% after administration of 2- (4- (chloromethyl) benzoyloxy) benzoic acid at doses of 12.5; 25; 50; 100; and 200 mg / kg. The pain hindrance percentage after administration of  2- (3- (chloromethyl) benzoyloxy) benzoaic acid, were 85.30%; 92.48%; 124.96%; 180.36%; and 208.01% respective to the doses of 12.5; 25; 50; 100; and 200 mg / kg. Five doses of acetyl salicylic acid ranged from 12.5 mg / kg to 200 mg / kg showed pain  hindrance percentage as: 26%; 34.34%; 45.68%; 60.38%; and 114.12%. This study indicated that 2- (3- (chloromethyl) benzoyloxy) benzoic acid and 2- (4- (chloromethyl) benzoyloxy) benzoic acid generated higher analgesic activity than acetyl salicylic acid.
