Abstract

ABSTRACTCommunity structure of target fishes was analyzed to understand their response to different conditions of coral reefs in several places of Hugow and Putus-Putus islands. This study focused on species abundance and diversity including Shannon-Wiener’s species diversity (H’), species richness (SR), species evenness (J’) and dominance (d) indices, respectively. A multivariate analysis was used for the classification or correspondence factorial analyses. The result recorded 4,501 individuals belonging to 52 species of target fishes. Both cluster and correspondence analyses clearly recognized 3 groups of target fish with 2 major controlling factors for the development of these 3 ecological groups, i.e. coral reef conditions and geographic position to the hydrodynamic condition.ABSTRAKStruktur komunitas ikan target dianalisis untuk melihat respon ikan target terhadap perbedaan kondisi terumbu karang di beberapa lokasi Pulau Hogow dan Putus-Putus.

Abstract

Kata kunci: Reef ball, karang batu, ikan karang Distribution of Coral Reefs and Fish in Buyat Bay Area Reef Ball Southeast Minahasa Regency The placement of reef ball in Buyat Bay and surrounding areas have been carried out since 1999 by PT. Newmont Minahasa Raya. The goal of this placement was to build a habitat for many biota associated with reef thus may improve economically important fish populations. The presence of reef fish on the reef ball is indispensable ecologically and economically. Furthermore, the degradation of reefs might cause the disappearance of economic value of goods and services, as well as the disappearance of food security and employment for coastal communities, who generally live in poverty. Overall, the composition of fish species found in the reef ball consists of 19 families, 34 genera, 50 species and 290 individuals, the highest inhabited by species of the family Mullidae. As time went by and the increase of reef ball age, some species seem have settled down such as Lutjanus kasmira, and several species of the Acanthuridae family. In addition, the presence of reef ball helps the formation of a new coral reef ecosystem and increase the fertility of waters, therefore enhancing the presence of reef fish composition, which might increases the income of fishermen. Abstract

Kata kunci : kualitas perairan laut, aktivitas wisata, Gugus Pulau Togean ?Marine resources of Togean Islands have been used for tourism activity. The increasing number of tourist in certain period every year has lead to increasing of tourism activity and its related activity. This condition probably effects sea water and habitat qualities. This research aim to studied correlation between tourist season in one year and the change of marine water quality parameters in tourism area. The data were analyzed using PCA (Principal Component Analysis) and EPI(environmental pollution index). The result showed that BOD5, COD, and NH3 increased while DO decrease during the peak season of tourism activity. The correlation value of those four parameters was relatively higher in November than in July.? Those parameters were the component that forms the main axis in both seasons. The increasing of turbidity and decreasing of salinity and temperature in November rather than in July were correlated with rainy season and high wave. Water pollution index increasing during peak season of tourism activity, but in general, marine water quality of Togean Islands can be categorized as good (not yet polluted) based on water pollution index. Abstract

Remote sensing technology, both optic and acoustic, serves as major tool for mapping bathymetry synoptically and efficiently. In complex coral cays as Kepulauan Seribu, bathymetric profile may change gradually due to naturally controlled reef accretion/erotion, sand/coral exploitation activities, storms, and mostly several types of fishing techniques (muroami and blast fishing). In this paper, elaboration on bathymetric profiles originated from coupled optic-acoustic dataset will be applied in account for understanding reef fish spawning habitats. A total of 17 reef sites were surveyed in situ to record reef fish with spawning cues (eg: female gravid, male change color, aggregation, etc) in between October 2010-March 2012. A 2008 Quickbird imagery and single beam acoustic data were gridded at 1 m by interpolation using Inverse Distance to Power method resulted in 2-dimension and 3-dimension bathymetric maps thus revealing complex detail of seabed at shallow and deeper depths. Terrain profiles depicting lateral view of bathymetric profile for each reef site were used to describe geomorpological features supporting its role as spawning habitat.

Abstract

Research on the abundance and distribution of coral disease has been implemented since June andJuly 2011 to determine the preliminary abundance of coral disease on several islands in the Thousand Islands, Jakarta. Observation method used was a 20m-belt transect with 1 m width to the left and right, and 3 replicates. Transects placed on the reef flat with a depth of 0–3 m, and a record number of infected colonies of BBD. The results show that type coral diseases of BBD found in many high coral covers and where Montipora sp dominant at that location. Generally, highest abundances found were at northern of Pramuka Island (0.15 col/m), eastern of Pari Island (0.092 col/m), Penjaliran Island (0.092 col/m), and Tikus Island (0.085 col/m). Statistical test by ANOVA obtained that abundance of BBD was significantly different between groups of study sites, i.e. the distance between the nearest and middle sites, and between the nearest and farthest distance from the mainland of Java Island (significantly difference with value respectively 0.030 and 0.025; confidence level 5%). Meanwhile, the sites between middle and farthest show no real difference. Based on climatological data, the increase in temperature in March and July could lead to coral diseases that occured in the Thousand Islands region.

Abstract

Nannochloropsis sp. is one of microalgaes species with high lipid content, so it has great potential to be used as the source of biofuel. One of the microalgae cultivation system in mass scale is open raceway ponds. Problems faced in microalgae cultivation with open raceway ponds system are low productivity and the high production cost, especially high electrical energy for operating paddle wheel machine. This research studies about efficiency and effectiveness level of the cultivation system with open raceway ponds through the analysis of correlation between operational duration of the paddle wheel with growth rate and lipid content from Nannochloropsis sp.. The highest density is 530x106 cell/ml found in treatment of 45min/h. The highest growth rate is 0,45/days Which also found in the treatment of 45min/h but the treatment 45min/h is only able to survive until 12 days. The highest productivity of dry biomass is 0,25 g/L/day found in treatment of 45min/h. Meanwhile, the highest lipid content contained on treatment 15min/h is 5,19%DCW. Dominant fatty acids for all treatments are palmitic acids. The best treatment related to the use of the paddle wheel machine is 15min/h.
