Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study aim to analyze the food resouces in Pagaralam District, South Sumatera Province in 2001?2010. The study design was retrospective with secondary data analysis covering policies, budgeting, food production, exports, imports and number of population. Data processing included analysis for production, exports, imports, food availability and food suffiency by trend, line, ratio availability and ratio of imports. Food availability policy and food availability budgeting were analyzed using content analysis. The results indicate increasing of production on some commodities but supply doesn?t fulfill the demand. Food availability increases and energy adequacy has already reached the Minimum Services Standard (90%), but not for intake protein. Desirable Dietary Pattern (DDP) score is still below 90. The food availability policy and budget do not support the General Policy for Food Security 2006?2010 and still focused on water resources management.Key words: energy and protein adequacy, food availabilityABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis sumberdaya pangan di Kota Pagaralam Provinsi Sumatera Selatan tahun 2001?2010. Abstract

The aims of study were to analyze the ecological factors such as food availability, land capacity, population density, poverty, GDP, education; and their association to the consumption of carbohydrate food sources in some rural and urban areas of Indonesia. This ecological study was conducted by analysing the 62 districts in Indonesia. The data of food consumption was part of set Riset Kesehatan Dasar (Riskesdas 2007). The data of food production, population density, poverty, GDP, and education collected from the Central Statistic Agency (BPS). The statistical test was pearson correlation and stepwise linear regression. The study shows that consumption of carbohydrate food sources in rural more than in urban area and dominated by rice. Energy contribution from carbohydrate food sources is a half of total energy contribution (55.9% in rural and 48.05% in urban). In rural area, consumption of rice, corn, cassava, and sweet potato per capita per year were 109 kg, 4.69 kg, 2.51 kg, and 0.66 kg. While in urban area, consumption of rice, corn, cassava, and sweet potato per capita per year were 95 kg, 1.24 kg, 3.51 kg, and 0.209 kg. The food availability was significantly affected to the consumption of carbohydrate food sources in rural and urban areas.

Abstract

Malnutrition is an ecological problem in the sense influenced by various aspects, as explained in the framework of UNICEF (1988). Indonesia as developing country at present still faced such a problem. Eco-nutrition is important to understand related factors affecting malnutrition in Indonesia to find out more effective programs. Eco-nutrition have three key areas : public health (access to quality water, sanitation and health services), socio economic (livelihood assets) and malnutrition. The purpose of this research was to study the linkages between socioeconomic and public health factors with the problem of underweight, stunted, and wasted in Indonesia. This research was conducted using cross-sectional study design, analyzed the 424 districts/cities in Indonesia. Data prevalence of underweight, stunted, wasted, level of education and public health factors (access to quality water, hygiene behavior, utilization of Posyandu, complete immunization coverage, incidence of diarrhea, and the incidence of acute respiratory infections (ARI) obtained from Riset Kesehatan Dasar (Riskesdas ) 2007. Socio-economic data (level of poverty and GDP/capita) obtained from the Central Statistic Agency (BPS). Statistical test of Pearson correlation and stepwise linear regression method were implemented to understand factors affecting underweight, stunted, wasted and correlation among variables. The study shows that factors affecting underweight were educational level, poverty level, hygiene behavior and use of Posyandu. While factors affecting stunted were GDP/capita, education level, poverty level, hygiene behavior, and utilization of Posyandu. Factors affecting wasted were hygiene behavior, utilization of Posyandu and complete immunization.

Abstract

Food demand can be found dynamic, altering by the change in price and income. How great the influence of those changes to food consumption is the important information as the basic consideration for government in creating policy related to food consumption. The objective of the research, which has survey design, was to analyze staple food consumption and demand pattern in household in Indonesia. The research was conducted in Bogor, from March to June 2008 by using secondary data Susenas year 2005 with 64.709 households as the samples. The staple food analyzed were rice, corn, cassava, sweet potato, wheat flour and its derived product (instant noodle, noodle). Data was processed by SAS program version 6.12 and Double-Log Regression econometrical model. Then, it was analyzed descriptively. Result shows that rice has the biggest expenditure proportion among staple food. Almost all staple food is obtained by purchasing, except in corn, cassava, and sweet potatoes. Energy contribution from rice reaches half of total energy consumption. The consumption of rice, corn, cassava, sweet potatoes, wheat flour and its derived product, instant noodle, and wheat noodle per capita per year are 100.52 kg, 3.36 kg, 11.67 kg, 4.10 kg, 5.09 kg, 3.39 kg, and 0.22 kg. Staple food which has consumption participation level almost 100% is rice. The own price elasticity of staple foods are not elastic, except in corn, wheat flour and its derived product. The income elasticity of all staple foods is not elastic in all category of region and income stratification. The demand elasticity of staple food give some implications on consumption and food consumption improvement, they are: 1) raising price of staple food can decrease consumption, thus, price stability is very important, 2) almost all staple foods has not elastic income elasticity, so that food consumption improvement needs great stimulus of increasing income, 3) poor household is greatly influenced by the increasing of price, thus, food consumption improvement for them must be conducted by doing many relevant efforts, 4) target of decreasing rice consumption is still cannot be reached, so that staple food diversification must be continuously developed, 5) in order to develop local food consumption, like corn, cassava, and sweet potato, the development of agro industry based on local food and Communication Information Education (CIE) about food consumption diversification are essential to be conducted.
