Abstract

The research aimed to determine the effect of Moringa leaves infuse toward the haemoglobin levels of broiler chickens. This study used 21 broiler chickens which divided into three groups and each group consisting of 7 broiler chickens. The treatment group (P0) were given only mineral water (aquadest), the treatment group (P1) were given moringa leaves infuse with a concentration of 10 % and treatment group (P2) infusion were given moringa leaves with a concentration of 20 %. The given of Moringa leaves infuse was starting at seven days old of chickens and given for 28 days continously as a drinking water.  The chickens were feed by ad libitum during the research. After the treatment completion, a researcher carried out a blood sampling via the axillary vein.  Data were analyzed with ANOVA by Complete Random Design one way and Tukey test to determine a difference between the treatments of each group. The research results showed that ± SD haemoglobin (g / dl) in the group (P0) 7.71 ± 1.13, (P1) of 8.15 ± 1.95 and (P2) 10.8 ± 1.76. Statistical analysis showed the treatment effect (P > 0.05) of the haemoglobin levels of broiler chickens. The Tukey test results of the treatment group (P0) were significantly different (P < 0.05) with treatment group (P2), but not significantly different (P > 0.05) with treatment group (P1). The treatment group (P2) were significantly different (P < 0.05) with treatment group (P1). From the results of this research, it was concluded that infuse Moringa leaves can improve haemoglobin levels of broiler chicken.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh peningkatan suhu terhadap jumlah eritrosit ikan nila. Sampel yang digunakan adalah darah ikan nila yang berasal dari 18 ekor ikan nila dengan bobot badan berkisar 40-50 g. Rancangan penelitian yang digunakan adalah rancangan acaklengkap (RAL) pola searah dengan tiga perlakuan dan enam kali ulangan. Perlakuan P1 sebagai kontrol merupakan perlakuan dengan suhu akuarium 29±1°C, P2 merupakan perlakuan dengan suhu akuarium 32±1°C, dan P3 merupakan perlakuan dengan suhu akuarium 35±1°C. Ukuran akuarium pada masing-masing kelompok perlakuan adalah 80 x 60 x 40 cm dengan ketinggian air 30 cm. Perlakuan dilakukan selama 15hari dan pada hari ke-16 dilakukan pengambilan sampel darah. Darah diambil melalui vena caudalis. Data dianalisis dengan analisis varian(ANAVA) dan dilanjutkan dengan uji Duncan. Rata-rata (±SD) jumlah eritrosit ikan nila (106/mm3) pada P1, P2, dan P3 masing-masing adalah 3,01x106/mm3; 2,63x106/mm3; dan 2,08x106/mm3. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan suhu berpengaruh (P<0,05) terhadap jumlaheritrosit ikan nila. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa peningkatan suhu air 32±1°C dan 35±1°C dalam akuarium dapat menurunkan jumlah eritrosit ikan nila.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of fermented Moringa aloifera Lamk Leaf Flour (FMLF) on the amount of abdominal fat content in broiler chickens (Gallus sp). Twenty eight broiler chickens were randomly design into 4 treatment groups with 7 replications each. The (P0) as control group was given 100% commercial ransom, (P1) was given 95% commercial ransom and 5% FMLF, (P2) was given 92.5% and 7.5% FMLF, and (P3) was given 90% commercial ransom and 10% FMLF. The ransom was given for 23 days. The results showed that the abdominal fat contant of broiler chicken in P1 was significantly higher (P<0,05) than that of P0, P2 and P3 There was no decrease in fat abdominal contant of broiler chicken in P1, P2 and P3 compared to that in P0 control. In conclusion, subtitusion of commercial ransom with FMLF up to 10% did not result in a decrease of abdominal fat content of broiler chickens.

Abstract

The aims of this study to find out differences in cholesterol levels hunter dog and dog house in the district of Lima Puluh Kota. This study using 99 hunter dogs and 98 dogs home in a healthy condition clinically. Dog blood samples were taken on the morning at the cephalika venous. Blood samples were obtained dripped on cholesterol strip that has been put into Gluco-dr and after 10 seconds cholesterol levels can read on screen. Data were analyzed statistically using chi-square test T which were helped by SPSS 16. The results showed that the average cholesterol levels in the dogs hunt were 87.67 ± 43.49 mg / dl and 297 in the dogs house, 72 ± 94 mg / dl. The statisticresult was showed significant difference (p <0.05) between blood cholesterol levels with a hunter dogs anddogshouse blood cholesterol levels. This research can be concluded that average of cholesterol levels of hunter dogs and dogs house were still within the normal range, but showed the sicnificant differences due to the different activities of dogs.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to evaluate the effect of chayote (Sechium edule) leaves infusion on hemoglobin and hematocrit level of anemic rat (Rattus norvegicus). Twelve anemic hemorrhagic male rats strain Wistar with body weight ranging from 175-200 g were used as sample in this research. Rats were divided randomly into 3 treatment groups, each group consist of 4 rats. The control group (P0) was not given chayote leaves infusion. Group P1 and P2 were given chayote leaves infusion with the concentration of 25% and 50% respectively, with dose of 1 ml per 200 gram body weight. Rats were fed with standard commercial food (Turbo feed) and aquadest ad libitum. The rats were treated anemic by taking 20% blood from total blood volume prior to administration of chayote laeves infusion. Chayote leaves infusion was given for 10 days consecutively. Blood sampling was carried out on day 0, 5, and 10 via caudal vein. Data were analyzed using anlysis of variance (ANOVA) Split-Plot pattern. The result showed that chayote leaves infusion increase level of hemoglobin and hematocrit in experimental rats. In conclusion 25% concentration of chayote leaves infusion is more effective than 50% concentration.Key words: anemia, chayote leaves, hemoglobin, hematocrit

Abstract

The aim of this research was to investigate the effect of red watermelon (Citrullus vulgaris) extract to the value of erythrocytes, hemoglobin, and hematocrit of mice (Mus muscullus) exposed to cigarette smoke. This study followed direct complete randomized design by using 12 males’ mice which divided into 4 groups. The treatment group is divided by the negative control group which given 0,5 ml of aquadest, the positive control group which exposed to cigarette smoke and 0,5 ml of aquadest. The treatment group I was exposed to cigarette smoke and given red watermelon extract dose 22 mg/Bw mice. The treatment group II was exposed to cigarette smoke and given red with watermelon extract dose 44 mg/Bw mice. The exposure to cigarette smoke and the given of red watermelon extract were conducted for 30 days. The blood taking was performed on day 31 in the Plexus retroorbital.  Furthermore, the number of erythrocytes, hemoglobin and hematocrit were calculated. The data were analyzed using ANOVA completely randomized design with SPSS for Windows 16.0. The results of this study showed that the extract of red watermelon for 30 days showed a highly significant effect (P <0.01) to the number of erythrocytes, hemoglobin, and hematocrit of mice. It is concluded that free radicals contained in the cigarette can cause a hemoglobin desaturation, increased blood viscosity, oxidative stress and red watermelon extract can minimize the damage.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh anestesi per inhalasi dan anestesi per injeksi terhadap kadar hemoglobin anjing lokal. Hewan coba yang digunakan adalah 6 ekor anjing jantan lokal dengan umur 4-5 bulan dengan berat badan 5-6 kg. Anjing dibagi menjadi 2 kelompok, masing-masing kelompok terdiri atas 3 ekor anjing. Kelompok 1 (K1) diinduksi dengan halotan 3%, setelah teranestesi diturunkan menjadi 1% untuk maintenance sedangkan kelompok 2 (K2) diinjeksi dengan ketamin 10 mg/kg bobot badan dan xylazin 1 mg/kg bobot badan. Pengambilan darah dilakukan pada menit ke-0, 10, 20, 30, 40, dan 50 melalui vena cephalica dan dilakukan pemeriksaan kadar hemoglobin dengan metode Sahli. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan analisis varian pola split plot. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terjadi perbedaan yang sangat nyata (P<0,01) terhadap kadar hemoglobin (g/dl) antara anestesi per inhalasi (14,28+1,71) dengan anestesi per injeksi (12,66+0,37), namun tidak terjadi perbedaan yang nyata (P>0,05) pada masing-masing periode pengamatan. Dari hasil tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa pemakaian anestesi per inhalasi lebih aman dibandingkan anestesi per injeksi berdasarkan kadar hemoglobin.

Abstract

This research was aimed to study the presence of ketone bodies in urine of sumatran orangutan as a medical record of orangutan at new reintroduction centre of pine nature reserve Jantho, Aceh Besar. Urine was collected from 8 individual sumatran orangutan (Kiskis, Amin, Mawasudin, Marconi, Ruben, Ayu, Yusniar, and Coty) which placed in individual cage and semiwild orangutan. Sampling was carried out in the morning after the sample going out of nest or before given the first feed for individual inside the cage. Sample was collected 4 times with three repetitions in 4 weeks from June to July 2013. The examination of urine was conducted subsequently after urine collection by dipped the striptest in 5 mL of urine for 60’second. Data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative method. The semiquantitative results of ketone body was obtained by striptest with 5 scale of colors change: negative (0 mg/dL), trace (5 mg/dL), small (15 mg/dL), moderate (40 mg/dL), and large (>60 mg/dL->180 mg/dL). The results showed that three individuals placed in the cage (Kiskis, Amin, and Mawasudin) were negative for ketone bodies. In contrast for 5 semiwild orangutans namely Marconi was negative for ketone bodies, Ruben was positively detected for ketone bodies found in the third week (M3) with levels of 5 mg/dL, Ayu was positively detected for ketone bodies in the first week (M1) with levels of 15 mg/dL and in the second week (M2) with a concentration of 5 mg/dL, Yusniar was positively detected for ketone bodies with levels of 5 mg/dL in the first week (M1) and fourth week (M4), and Coty was positively detected for ketone bodies with levels of 5 mg/dL in the second week (M2) and fourth week (M4).Key words: orangutan, ketone bodies, reintoduction, urinalysis

Abstract

The aims of this research was to determine the density level of lumbal vertebrae on ovariectomized rats administered with Cissus qudrangula Salisb stem extract with various doses. In this research twelve female rats were randomizedly divided into 4 groups with 3 treatment repetition. K1-groups were ovariectomized rats without Cissus quadrangula Salisb trunct extract administration; K2, K3, and K4, were ovariectomized and given with Cissus quadrangula Salisb extract  with 500 mg/kg/Bw, 700 mg/kg/Bw, and 900 mg/kg/Bw as doses perday for 30 days. On day-31, rats were euthanized using chloroform and the os lumbal-5 were collected, followed with histological preparations. Research parameters were the density of active osteoblasts, passive osteoblasts, and osteoclasts. The results showed that the damage in K1 was clearly marked with the high number of osteoclasts, K2 and K3 indicate lower osteoclasts levels than K1 and had repaired bone structure characterized with active cuboidal shaped  osteoblast  activity and passive flat shaped osteoblasts and K4 showed increasing  level of active osteoblasts. The administration of Cissus quadrangula Salisb stem extract at 900 mg/kg/bw for 30 days showed bone repair due to ovariectomy indicated with high level of active osteoblasts.

Abstract

This research was done to determine the levels of hemoglobin (Hb) and hematocrit (Ht) of the sumatran elephants captivated at the Elephant Conservation Center (ECC) of Saree, Aceh Besar. In this study blood samples were drawn from 16 sumatran elephants at the ECC using EDTA as an anticoagulant. The levels of Hb and Ht were determined using Sahli and micro-hematocrit methods, respectively. Data was analyzed using t-test. The results showed that Hb concentrations in male and female sumatran elephans were 11.74±0.58 g/dL and 11.84±0.55 g/dL, respectively. Hb levels in sumatran elephants aged 10-30 and >30 years old were 11.87±0.56 g/dL and 11.79±0.50 g/dL, respectively. There was no significant different of Hb levels (P>0.05) according to sex and age. Ht values in male sumatran elephants were 38.140.79% and significantly lower (P<0.05) than that in female sumatran elephants, 42.001.37%. Similar to that of Hb, Ht values in sumatran elephants aged 10-30 and >30 years old, 40.45±1.21% and 40.22±1.48%, respectively, were not significantly different (P>0.05). In conclusion, in the sumatran elephants Hb values were not influenced by sex and age, but Ht values were influenced by sex.
