Abstract

The Resistance of Sengon against Pycnoporus sanguineus and Pleurotus djamor Using the SNI Methods (Standar Nasional Indonesia) 01-7207-2006Fungi is a organism which does not have chlorophyll and receives the energy resources by absorption system to the organic matters. A wood contains cellulose, hemicelluloses, and  lignin which in the wood decay fungi is very good needs. The kind of tree which the most acquainted with commercial trading till now is about 400 kinds of botanical (species). Around 80 – 85% of Indonesian woods had low class which it’s very easy attacked by wood decay fungi for instance Sengon. Kinds of it which potentially most decaying off the woods are Schizophyllum commune, Pycnoporus sanguineus, Dacryopinax spathularia, and Pleurotus djamor. This study was purposed to determine the potential of two kinds wood decay fungi to Sengon based on SNI Method (Standar Nasional Indonesia : SNI 01-7207-2006). Based on SNI 01-7207-2006 point out of wood weight loss percentage by the wood decay fungi knows that Sengon belong to IV - V resistance class (not resistant till very not resistant). The wood weight loss percentage was Sengon by P. sanguineus breed (31,09%) belong to V resistance class (very not resistant) and the wood weight loss percentage by P. djamor (20,51 %) belong to IV (not resistant).

Abstract

This research was aimed at investigating the use of webbing technique in teaching writing recount text.  A  quasi  experimental  design  was  employed  with  two  classes  of  the  eleventh  graders  at  one  school  in  Sungguminasa, Gowa  selected  with cluster sampling  as  sample.  The  data  were  obtained  through  a  pre-test,  a  post-test  and  an  questionnaire.  The writing assessment was covering content, schematic structure, and language use.  The findings were analyzed statistically using independent t-test procedure.   The statistical computation showed that webbing technique was likely effective in  improving  the  students’  writing  skill  in  recount text  (value of t  6,74>value of t table1,99). Furthermore, the students´ perception towards webbing technique is 91,7% students agree that this technique could help them to increase their writing skill. Designing  the  learning  purpose  appropriately  which  considers  students’  needs  and  language  level  may  ease  teachers  to  use  the webbing technique  in  improving  students’  writing recount text.  The  teachers  may  try  to  take  advantage  of  webbing technique  to  be  utilized  in  their  classroom  activities  to  conduct  an  effective  and  interesting  learning atmosphere in the classroom.

Abstract

The research was aimed at finding out the students’ pronunciation achievement at the second year students of SMK Negeri 1 Limbung by using YouTube Videos, and finding out whether or not using YouTube Videos is effective to improve students’ pronunciation. The design of the research was pre-experimental with one group pre-test and post-test design. It aimed at find out whether YouTube videos developed students’ pronunciation after gave treatments or not. The research applied pre-experimental method, with pre-test and post-test to one experimental group. The population of the research was the second year students of SMK Negeri 1 Limbung in academic year 2014-2015. The XII/A class consists of 15students and XII/B class consist of 20 students. The number of population was 35 students. This research used the purposive sampling technique that is carries out by choosing one class to represent all the population. Class XII/A as sample of the research consists of 15 students. Based on the result of data analysis and the discussion of the result in the previous chapter, the researcher concludes that (1) YouTube Videos gives the students’ achievement in improving pronunciation. It is proven by 53% of improvement which indicates that the mean score of post-test ( ) is higher than the mean score pre-test (52), and (2) YouTube Videos is effective to improve the students’ pronunciation. It is proved by  improvement which indicates that the mean score of post-test ( ) is higher than the mean score of pre-test (52). It also can be seen from the result of t-test is greater (8.5) than t-table (2.14). That means there is the significance different by using YouTube Videos in teaching pronunciation. In the other word there is the improvement of the students’ pronunciation through YouTube Videos in teaching process.

Abstract

Improving The Students’ Reading Comprehension Through Know-Want-Learn Strategy at the first-grade students of SMA Negeri 18 Makassar. The objective of this research was intended to explain the improvement of the students’ interpretative and literal reading comprehension through Know-Want-Learn Strategy at the first-grade students of SMA Negeri 18 Makassar especially in class X 3. The strategy of this research was a Classroom Action Research (CAR) consisted of two cycles, one cycle consisted of four meetings. It means that there were eight meetings for two cycles. This classroom action research was done at the first-grade students of SMA Negeri 18 Makassar in Daya Regency for English subject. As the subject in this research was class X 3 in the 2012-2013 academic year with students’ number of about 32 students. Those consist of  22 women and 10 men. The instrument of this research was observation sheet and reading test or evaluation. The findings of the research were students achievement in reading comprehension was 54,07 in D-test, then Cycle I is 69,07 and it becomes 73,81 in Cycle II. The students  activeness in learning reading comprehension in the first meeting of Cycle I was 45,39% then it becomes 90,78% in the fourth meeting of Cycle II.Keyword: Improving, reading, know, want, learn, strategy.

Abstract

This study aims to examine and analyze determinants factors of implementation of gender mainstreaming in the appointment of structural officials policy in the South Sulawesi Province governmental bureaucracy structures. Through the qualitative research research and case study approach, the research was conducted in the Provincial Government institution on Education Affairs. As the result, the appointment of structural officials position show that there are two factors that determine the gender mainstreaming policies in the structural appointment process. Those are the internal factors and external factors. The Internal factors that had influence implementation of gender mainstreaming policies based this research findings are the resources, implementing organizations, communication, coordination and implementing commitment, and support of bureaucratic structures factors.  On the other hand, the external factors are includes: social political influence, cultural influences and bureaucratic characteristics, and policy design support.

Abstract

This research aims at finding out whether or not using of extensive reading was effective to develop the English vocabulary of the fifth semester students of Muhammadiyah University of Makassar. It was quasi experimental research design. This research took place at Muhammadiyah University of Makassar in academic year 20105/2016. The population of the research was 313 students. The sample of this research consisted of 52 students, 28 students as the control group and 24 students as the experimental group, which was chosen by using cluster random sampling technique. The instrument of collecting data was vocabulary test. The data were obtained through pretest and posttest for both groups and the result of the test was analyzed by using SPSS 17.0 version. The result of the data analysis showed that the application of extensive reading was effective to develop the English vocabulary of the fifth semester students of Muhammadiyah University of Makassar proved by the mean score of control group in pretest was 29.31 and the mean score of experimental group was 41.64. While the mean score of control group in posttest was 47.07 which was taught intensive reading and the mean score of experimental group was 59.86, which was taught extensive reading. It means that the improvement of vocabulary achievement in control group from pretest to posttest was 17.76 and in experimental group were 18.22. It means that Incidental vocabulary occurred both of Intensive Reading and Extensive Reading, but the improvement of incidental vocabulary learning in extensive reading was greater than that of  intensive reading (18.22>17.76).

Isolation and characterization of lignocellulolytic microbes from oil palm empty fruit bunches (EFB)

Abstract

Oil palm empty fruit bunches (EFB) is one of the major by-products of palm oil production. This lignocellulosic biomass is commonly used as a fertilizer at oil palm plantations. Unfortunately, the composting process of EFB is very slow. This study aimed to identify potential lignocellulosic microbes isolated from EFB. This information is essential for improving EFB biodegradation process by reducing the decomposition time. Samples of approximately 6, 12, and 24-month-old EFB were obtained from two palm oil mills in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. The isolation of lignocellulytic microbes utilized selective medium cellulose congo red agar (CCRA) while its characterization used lignin agar (LgA) and oil palm empty fruit bunches agar (EFBCRA). As much as 430 isolates were successfully collected and 12 of them exhibited promising capability to synthesize lignocellulolytic enzyme, the key for FEB degradation.
