Abstract

In the Japanese literature, poetry has its own type and form, including Haiku and Senryu with 5-7-5 syllabic structure. Another prominent characteristic of Haiku is the topic concerning beauty of nature and the elements like Kigo or Kisetsu no Kotoba (the words marking the seasons) in which it shows the closeness of Japanese people with nature. Senryu has humorous and witty elements, including satire and the story about people; it does not describe season at all. Therefore, cultural background and social condition of society will affect content and form of the satire. This research aims to analyze the form of kigo in haiku and the content of satire in senryu, written by students of Japanese Literature in Brawijaya University. This research used qualitative descriptive methodology. The research shows the result that kigo ame and kigo taiyou are the most frequently used forms.  In senryu, the contents of satire are love, student life, and physical depiction.

Abstract

The conflict that happened in Aceh from 1976 to 2005 has left deep wounds for Indonesia’s  national history. Many cases of human rights violations such as murder, rape, kidnappings  committed by both GAM and TNI troops. To seized sovereignty, GAM established special  forces such as the Askariyah Force, which consisted of widows and teenage girls. The stories of the struggle of Acehnese women who are members of the Askariyah Force are represented in the short story of Safrida Askariyah by Alimuddin published in Kompas on October 8, 2006.  The problem of the research is whether the Askariyah Forces have been able to convey the subaltern voices that in this short story is represented by the main character of Safrida? This research is qualitative research. Data collections was done by literature study. The primary data source is short story Safrida Askariyah. Data analysis was done by descriptive analysis method. This research used  the approach of the sociology literature and Spivak’s view of the subaltern. The results showed that the Askariyah troops represented by the Safrida figures were not able to convey the subaltern voices of women of the Aceh conflict. This were evoked by the disappearance of the Askariyah Forces, Safrida was alienated from the community, and Askariyah Forces existence  was not recognized in nowdays society.
