Abstract

Tuna is one of the important fishery commodities in Indonesia, including tuna caught by longliners in Indian Ocean. The most popular of tuna is yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares). Currently, the production of tuna based on the capture fisheries, therefore, in order to preserve its sustainability, the understanding of the biological and reproduction aspect is required. Research on the biological reproduction of this species was conducted at Gondol Research Institute for Mariculture. Samples of female gonad were collected from Indian Ocean tuna longliners during April to July 2009 from the processing companies within Benoa Port. Result of the histological analysis on 128 female gonads showed that majority of gonads were at the early development level and the only 16 gonads have reached at the mature level. The analysis of the oocyte development showed the asynchronous, indicating that yellowfin tuna is a multiple spawner.Keywords: yellowfin tuna, gonad, asynchronous

Abstract

The reproductive biology of five species of anchovies (Encrasicholina and Stolephorus) in Bima Bay, Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia was examined and  compared with previous studies of the same species in Bacan, Maluku and other parts of Indonesia. Fish and plankton sampling was conducted in February and April 2000. The length and weight relationship of five species of anchovies had a slope (b) that ranged from 2.71 to 3.74. These values were less than those found in Bacan for the same species. All species were multiple spawner and the mean batch fecundity ranged between 1226 (Encrasicholina devisi) and 2470 (E. punctifer). Relative fecundity varied among the species inversely with size, being lower in the larger species. Age at first spawning varied from 67 to 141 days for all five species and was higher in Stolephorus species. Lifetime egg production was less than that found in Bacan for the same species, but similar to that found in similar habitats elsewhere in the tropical Indo-Pacific. These results suggest that anchovy egg production is higher, but more variable in open oceanic environments compared with the more stable, coastal bays.

Abstract

Leopard coral grouper, Plectropomus leopardus is one of the most economically important finfish fish in Indonesia and the demand for the grouper is rapidly increasing in Asia and the Pacific. Grouper exports from Bali were 1,613 mt in 2001, 2,082 mt in 2002 and 2,861 mt in 2003. Understanding the reproductive biology of fishes is an important component in developing mariculture and in the management of capture fisheries. This study reports on the reproductive biology of 86 coral groupers collected from various locations in Indonesia. The length and weight of these fish were recorded and related to gonad development. There was a strong relationship between length and weight; weight being proportional to the length raised to the power (b value) 3.2. As the value of b was greater than 3, this suggests that growth is allometric. Histological analysis 73% of the fish were immature, 19% were in transition from females to males, only 4% were male, and only 2 fish (2%) had mature gonads: these were female. The sex of 2 fish could not be determined. From these data it can be seen that the leopard coralgrouper has asynchronous gonad development. The two fish that were mature contained 343,980 and 429,259 oocytes and three distinct sizes of oocytes could be found. This suggests that the grouper is a multiple spawner. If fish are required for brood stock, this study has shown that only those with a length greater than 35 cm in standard length should be taken from the wild.

Abstract

Humpback grouper (Cromileptes altivelis) has been successfully spawned in 2000 by IMRAD (Institute of Mariculture Research and Development) and there are already the third generation (F3) currently. The reproductive aspects need to be studied to support the success of seed production. Humpback grouper reared in floating cage (F1 and F3) had matured (gonad stage 4) while F2 fish reared in concrete tanks has spawned. Gonadal maturity stage of 38 fishes from first generation (F1) and 35 fishes from the third generation were observed in June 2013 and compared to gonadal maturity stage of 18 fishes from the second generation observed in June 2009. Samples were measured in total length and body weight and gonads were taken for histology preparation to determine gonadal maturity stage and the sex. From the histological observation of the gonads, it showed that all female humpback grouper were in early maturity stage (stage I and II) with gonadal maturity index between 0.12% and 5.45%. Further, it was observed that the same gonad was found in different maturity stage and concluded that humpback groupers were multiple spawners (asynchronous). By determining gonadal maturity level, it was also known the minimum size for grouper ready to spawn.

Abstract

Panjang, bobot, pertumbuhan, dan faktor kondisi, merupakan aspek biologis yang penting diketahui dari kandidat ikan budidaya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan panjang-bobot, pertumbuhan serta faktor kondisi ikan kakap merah L. argentimaculatus hasil budidaya. Ikan yang digunakan untuk penelitian terdiri atas dua kelompok ukuran. Ikan pada kelompok kecil berukuran panjang 9,50-14,50 cm dengan bobot 15,63-53,21 gram, berjumlah 80 ekor dan dipelihara selama 70 hari dalam satu tangki pemeliharaan. Ikan pada kelompok besar berukuran panjang 21,5-26,0 cm dan bobot 233,5-319,6 gram; berjumlah 63 ekor dan dipelihara selama 56 hari dalam tiga tangki. Masing-masing tangki pemeliharaan yang digunakan berukuran 4.000 L. Hasil akhir penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat korelasi positif antara panjang dengan bobot, baik pada ikan kelompok kecil maupun besar dengan nilai koefisien korelasi masing-masing antara 0,89 dan 0,91. Pertumbuhan ikan kakap merah bersifat allometrik negatif, dengan nilai b 2,83 dan 1,86 pada ikan yang normal masing-masing pada kelompok kecil dan besar serta 1,66 dan 0,61 pada ikan yang abnormal bentuk tubuhnya pada kelompok kecil dan besar. Pada kelompok ikan kecil, pertumbuhan, kecepatan pertumbuhan nisbi, dan koefisien pertumbuhannya lebih besar dibandingkan dengan kelompok ikan besar. Faktor kondisi ikan yang normal adalah 1,79 dan 1,60 masing-masing pada kelompok kecil dan besar, sedangkan pada ikan yang abnormal adalah 2,09 pada kelompok kecil dan 1,86 pada kelompok besar.Length, weight, growth, and condition factors are important biological aspects for culture fish candidate. This experiment was aimed to get information regarding length-weight relationship, growth and condition factors of cultured mangrove snapper. Fish used for this experiment consisted of two groups different in size. Small fish group consisted of 80 individuals and has 9.50-14.50 cm of length average and 15.63-53.21 g of weight average and reared in one tank for 70 days, while big fish group consisted of 63 individuals and has 21.5-26.0 cm of length average and 233.5-319.6 g of weight and reared in three tanks for 56 days. Rearing was performed in 4,000-L tanks. The results indicated that there was a positive length-weight relationship between mangrove snapper groups with range of correlation value of 0.89 and 0.91. Growth of mangrove snapper was negatively allometric with b value of 2.83 and 1.86 for normal fish in small and big fish groups, while for abnormal-shape fish was 1.66 and 0.61 in small and big fish groups, respectively. Small fish group had growth, relative growth rate and growth coefficient higher than those of big fish groups. Condition factor was 1.79 and 1.60 for normal fish in small and big fish groups, while for abnormal-shape fish was 2.09 and 1.86 for small and big fish groups, respectively.

Abstract

Pemeliharaan induk ikan tuna sirip kuning dalam bak beton telah berhasil dilakukan di Balai Besar Riset Perikanan Budidaya Laut, Gondol-Bali bekerja sama dengan Overseas Fishery Cooperation Foundation (OFCF) Jepang. Pemijahan induk secara alami juga telah berhasil. Untuk mendukung program pembenihan ikan tuna, maka perlu diketahui informasi dasar yang dimulai dengan pengamatan perkembangan embrio. Telur yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini berasal dari hasil pemijahan secara alami dari induk-induk yang dipelihara dalam bak beton. Telur yang terkumpul dalam kolektor telur dipanen lalu diinkubasi dalam bak penetasan bervolume 200 L yang dilengkapi dengan aerasi dan sistem pergantian air secara kontinyu.  Pengamatan dilakukan dengan mengambil sampel telur dari bak penetasan lalu diamati di bawah mikroskop. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa waktu yang dibutuhkan dari pemijahan hingga telur menetas adalah 18 jam 55 menit pada suhu air alami (27oC—28oC).

Abstract

Pakan merupakan salah satu faktor yang berpengaruh terhadap performa reproduksi induk ikan bandeng. Ketersediaan pelet komersial yang spesifik untuk pemeliharaan induk bandeng hingga kini belum ada sehingga perlu dilakukan pengembangan pakan untuk menghasilkan performa reproduksi yang lebih baik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan produksi dan kualitas telur induk bandeng melalui aplikasi bahan pengkaya pada pakan. Penelitian dilakukan di unit pembenihan skala lengkap Desa Banyupoh dan Desa Sanggalangit, Bali Utara. Jumlah induk yang digunakan adalah 165 ekor yang dipelihara dalam dua buah bak volume 100 m3 (di Desa Banyupoh) dan 100 ekor yang dipelihara dalam dua buah bak volume 100 m3 (di Desa Sanggalangit). Perlakuan yang digunakan adalah pakan komersial dengan penambahan bahan pengkaya (pakan uji) dan tanpa penambahan bahan pengkaya pakan (pakan kontrol). Bahan pengkaya berupa emulsi yang terdiri atas lesitin, minyak cumi, minyak ikan, minyak jagung, vitamin E, dan vitamin C yang dicampur dalam pakan dengan dosis sebesar 120 g/kg pakan. Pakan diberikan secara at-satiation dengan frekuensi 2-3 kali sehari. Penelitian berlangsung selama 10 bulan. Parameter yang diamati meliputi frekuensi pemijahan, produksi, dan kualitas telur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan bahan pengkaya dalam pakan mampu meningkatkan frekuensi pemijahan induk dengan rerata sebanyak lima kali/bulan di unit pembenihan skala lengkap Desa Banyupoh dan empat kali/bulan di unit pembenihan skala lengkap Desa Sanggalangit, serta dapat meningkatkan produksi telur masing-masing sebesar 102% dan 56% dibandingkan pakan kontrol. Teknik penambahan bahan pengkaya pada pakan dapat diterapkan pada pemeliharaan induk bandeng untuk mendukung produksi telur dan frekuensi pemijahan yang baik.Feed is one of the factors affecting the reproduction performance of milkfish broodstock. Hatcheries use mostly commercial pellets to feed broodstock despite that it is not a natural feed for milkfish. Thus, the food has to be enriched to maintain or improve the spawning performance of milkfish broodstock. The purpose of this study was to improve spawning performance of milkfish broodstock through the application of enriched-formulation feed. The study was conducted at two milkfish hatcheries in Banyupoh and Sanggalangit villages, North Bali. The number of broodstock used at Banyupoh village hatchery were 165 ind reared in two 100 m3concrete tanks. In the hatchery at Sanggalangit Village, 100 fish were reared in two 100 m3 concrete tanks. The feed enrichment formulation used a mixture of lecithin, squid oil, fish oil, corn oil, vitamin E, and vitamin C. The feed enrichment formulation was prepared in emulsion form and mixed with 120 g/kg dosage of feed. As a control, the feed used was without enrichment formulation. The feeding frequency was 2-3 times per day to satiation. The experiment was carried out for 10 months. The parameters observed included egg production, egg quality and spawning frequency. The results showed that the enriched feed had increased the spawning frequency of broodstock up to five times/month at the hatchery in Banyupoh and four times/month at Sanggalangit hatchery. Egg production also had increased to 102% (Banyupoh) and 56% (Sanggalangit) compared to the control feed. This feed enrichment formulation has the potential in broodstock milkfish rearing to improve the egg production and spawning frequency.

Abstract

Abalon merupakan salah satu jenis moluska laut yang memiliki nilai ekonomis penting dan spesies unggulan untuk budidaya di Indonesia. Keberhasilan budidaya abalon ditentukan oleh ketersediaan benih yang memadai. Selain itu, ketersediaan pakan yang baik juga berpengaruh nyata terhadap pertumbuhan abalon. Efektivitas pakan buatan untuk pembesaran abalon dipengaruhi oleh bahan baku yang digunakan. Untuk itu, penelitian ini bertujuan mendapatkan informasi dasar tentang bahan baku untuk pengembangan pakan buatan dan respons pertumbuhan abalon H. squamata terhadap pakan buatan. Bahan baku pakan dikoleksi, dianalisis komposisi nutriennya yang meliputi komposisi proksimat, asam amino, dan asam lemaknya. Percobaan aplikasi pakan buatan berbahan baku rumput laut dilakukan di Laboratorium Pakan, Balai Besar Penelitian dan Pengembangan Budidaya Laut, Gondol. Empat pakan percobaan dengan kombinasi tepung rumput laut berbeda dibuat dalam bentuk pelet kering. Sebagai pakan kontrol digunakan Gracilaria sp. segar dari tambak. Benih abalon ukuran bobot rata-rata 3,07±1,11 g dengan panjang cangkang 2,79±0,27 cm dipelihara dalam bak beton ukuran 2 m x 0,5 m x 0,5 m dengan kepadatan 400 ekor/bak. Bak dilengkapi dengan sistem air mengalir dan aerasi. Abalon diberi pakan percobaan dua kali sehari, pagi, dan sore hari. Percobaan dirancang dengan rancangan acak lengkap dengan lima perlakuan dan tiga ulangan untuk setiap perlakuan. Pada penelitian ini diperoleh empat jenis rumput laut yang potensial dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan baku pakan abalon H. squamata. Hasil uji pakan menunjukkan bahwa pakan dari campuran tepung rumput laut Gracilaria sp. tambak dengan Ulva sp. (2:1) atau campuran Gracilaria sp. tambak dengan Sargassum sp. (2,3:1) memberikan respons pertumbuhan abalon H. squamata yang baik.
