Abstract

It is widely accepted that TQM is essential to build the competitive advantage of an organization in todays turbulent environment. TQM is the management of quality in every facet of the business and the understanding that continuous improvement is an essential component of competitive organization. This article discusses the important role of TQM as a strategy to enhance organizations competitive advantage. The concepts of TQM are defined and the TQM approaches to improve product and management quality are offered.

Abstract

The issue of currency substitutions in Indonesia is a monetary phenomenon with implication for domestic by the negative changes in some macro economics variable particularly since the economic crisis 1997. The main propose of this research was to investigate factors Real’s Gross Domestic exchange rate, Expectation inflation, spread interest rate between domestic interest rate foreign rate, and dummy variable about exchange rate police especially after economy crisis 1997. The date to be used cover quarterly data form the 3quartal of 2002 the result of the analysis show that the spread the interest rate, expected and the dummy variable have significant impact to the currency substitution in Indonesia while the Real GDP and the exchange rate doesn’t show direct influence for the model used.

Abstract

Expectancy theory has emerge as the dominant process theory of motivation, originally developed by Vroom is a theory explaining the process individual use to make decision on a various behavioral alternatives. The motivational force for a behavior, action, or task is a function of three distinctive perceptions: expectancy, instrumentality, and valance. The theory contains of two models: for the precition of valance of an outcome, and the other for the prediction of force toward behavior. It provides a general framework for assessing, interpreting, and evaluating employee behavior in learning, decision making, attitude formation, and motivation.Keywords: expectancy theory, expectancy, instrumentality, valance

Abstract

Contingency Model of Leadership Effectiveness introduced by Fried E. Fiedler arose in response to limitations in the two major questions focused on in leadership study at that time; what the personality factors are which make someone a leader; and what the personality traits are which make them effective. It shows the relationship between the leader's orientation or style and group performance under different situational conditions. The leadership style variable is measured using an instrument called least preferred coworker (LPC). The model is based on determining the orientation of the leader (relationship or task), the elements of the situation (leader-member relations, task structure, and leader position power), and the leader orientation that was found to be most effective as the situation changed from low to moderate to high control. Acccording to Fiedler's Model, task oriented leaders is more effective in low and moderate control situations, while relationship oriented leaders were more effective in moderate control situations. The model and its supporting researches were evaluated from empirical, methodological, and theoretical perspectives and indicated that the hypothesis of the model was not conclusively supported, numerous methodological shortcomings were pointed out, and when the theoretical scheme underlying the model was analyzed, and a new scheme was proposed. This article is a literature reviews on contingency model of leadership effectiveness's critics and it's relevance in todays research's issue on leadership effectiveness.Keywords: contingency model, task oriented, relationship oriented, situational conditions, least preferred coworker

Abstract

Supply chain management is one of  the economic decisions that uses a strategic tool to achieve competitiveness and sustainability in the global economy era. The focus of this study investigate the moderating role of supply chain uncertainty (supplier uncertainty, process uncertainty, demand uncertainty) on the relationship of supply chain management practices and supply chain management performance. Data are collected through mailed questionnaire. The total questionnaires are 500 sent to CEOs firms in Indonesia. Seventy three of useable questionnaires returned yielding the response rate of 14,60%. Through the simple regression the analysis and moderated regression analysis, three hypotheses are supported and one hypothesis is not supported. It means that supply chain management practices have significant effects on supply chain performance, and supply chain uncertainty has a role as moderating variable between the relationship of supply chain management practices and supply chain performance.      Keywords: Supply Chain Management practices, supply chain uncertainty, supply chain performance.

Abstract

To date, there is a great deal changing in the way firm to compete. Over last decade, several driving force have emerge such as globalization of business and international competition sophisticated customers, competitor, and supplier increased technological capability, and shortening of production life cycle. Among the changes, knowledge management and intellectual capital management have probably made the most outstanding impact, the advent of the knowledge economy. Several characteristics define the knowledge economy are its focused on intangible resources rather than tangible resources, it’s has a hypercompetitive business environment, it’s digital, it’s virtual, and it’s networked. In the new knowledge economy, intellectual capital has has become the one and only competitive advantage of a firm. It’s include three dimension that is human capital, structural capital and customer capital. To implement strategy for managing intellectual capital successfully need to integrate the intellectual capital management strategies with the business strategy and to adapt internal and external changes.

Abstract

Munculnya tipe organisasi baru ditandai dengan adanya gejala-gejala perubahan organisasi yang tidak asing lagi seperti devolusi atau pendelegasian tanggung jawab manajerial, tanggung jawab karyawan yang makin fleksibel, peningkatan kebijakan outsourcing, dan meningkatnya kerjasama dalam suatu jejaring bisnis baik di dalam maupun diluar organisasi untuk mengubah pengetahuan dalam nilai-nilai bisnis. Untuk mendapatkan manfaat lebih dari pengetahuan sebagai sumber keunggulan kompetitif organisasi, pengetahuan harus dikelola melalui manajemen pengetahuan yang didefinisikan sebagai proses mengelola pengetahuan. Manajemen pengetahuan menitikberatkan pada akuisisi dan komunikasi pengetahuan yang menjadi fondasi proses pembelajaran dalam organisasi. Organizational learning (organisasi pembelajar) adalah suatu proses yang melibatkan semua level baik individu, kelompok, organisasional, dan inter-organizational yang memusatkan pada tiga tahapan yaitu akuisisi, komunikasi, dan pengetahuan. Melalui proses pembelajaran, pengetahuan dapat memberikan potensi inovasi yang kreatif yang kita sebut dengan kompetensi inti.

Abstract

This article discusses the impact of knowledge management to improve organizational competitiveness. As business enter knowledge-based economy era, organizations have to cope with challenges of technological sophistication and global competition, and the importance of knowledge as source of organizational competitive advantage. Employee began to experience work differently with a new array of rules, expectation, and condition of employment predicted on uncertainty and chaos. In order to respond these challenges, organizations as business performer require the role of high quality and competence human resource to response the development and changes of business environment. The implementation of management and investment in human resource as one of competitive advantage sources are crucial. It may be due to human resource is subject or performer in the enterprise operational activity that use and manage other resources. To create knowledge for individual and to get more benefit from knowledge, knowledge has to be managed through knowledge management. Knowledge management defined as the process of managing knowledge. In other words, t is a structured coordination for managing knowledge effectively. Through knowledge management, organization will be able to implement organizational and self learning and to manage professional intellect.

Abstract

Expanding global competition, rapidly changing market and technology, increasing complexity and uncertainty are creating new competitive environment where manufacturing firm must adopt and implement sophisticated operational strategy, technology, and imprwemenl techniques f they want to stoy competitive. To be successful in this globally competitive and rapidly changing environment, organization must formulate strategic plan that are consistent with their investment in and use of technology and consider environment lask as precursor variable that causally related to stralegic choice. This research was conducted to irwestigate the relationship amongsl business envitonmenl, operational slrqleg/, and .firm pedormance of manufacturing.firms in Indonesia. This study also investigotes the moderaling role of technologt (both hard and soft technologXt) on the strategt and perfurmance relalionship. Data are collected through mailed questionnsire (525 questionnqires) and direct suruey to 25 tirms. The total questionnaires are sent to 550 CEOs manufacturing firm in Indonesia. A hundred and six responses are returned yielding response rate 19.27ok.

Abstract

Competitiveness among universities demands them to give good qualities in education service and physical facilities. One way to achieve the demand is by technology information adoption through online facility service, which is implementation of Sistem Akademik Terkomputedsasi (SAT). This system is adopted in order to facifltate students academic and administration process and give convenience for student to access information through internet facility.The purposes of the study were to analyze factors that influenced students attention in using SAT technology and their influence toward degree of SAT adoption. This study was conducted using Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) which is adjusted with the object of the study, namely student self access terminal (SSAT), Self Access Terminal (SSAT) is an academic system computerization where presently used by one private university in Bandung. This system called as Sistem Akademik Terkomputerisasi (SAT).Data collection were collected using questionnaire which given to 320 active college students of one private university in Bandung from different faculties as the respondents. The respondents were chosen using proportionate random sampling. Data can be used in this study were 270 respondents with responds rate 84,4%.All the hypotheses in this study were analyzed using Hierarchical Regressions Analysis. The result shown that almost the hypotheses were supported, excluding the third hypothesis, which shown that risk perception has positive significant influence toward perception of using SAT technology.Keywords : Sistem Akademik Terkomputerisasi (SAT), Technology Acceptance Model (TAM)
