Abstract

Analisis konsentrasi logam berat Pb, Cu dan Zn dalam jaringan lunak moluska (Geloina sp dan Calliostoma sp) dan sedimen dari perairan muara Sei Jang Riau Indonesia telah dilakukan. Pada umumnya konsentrasi logam tersebut dalam jaringan lunak moluska lebih tinggi dari konsentrasi dalam sedimen, kecuali logam Pb dalam Geloina sp yang relatif lebih rendah dibanding dalam sedimen. Geloina sp mengakumulasi logam Zn lebih dari tiga kali lipat dari konsentrasi dalam sedimen, sedangkan Calliostoma sp mengakumulasi logam Cu lebih dari empatbelas kali lipat konsentrasi logam tersebut dalam sedimen. Peningkatan konsentrasi logam berat lebih terlihat jelas di sekitar kawasan bekas penambangan bauksit, galangan kapal dan di kawasan aktivitas penduduk. Akumulasi logam didapatkan lebih tinggi dalam jaringan lunak moluska yang berukuran lebih besar dimana hal ini mengindikasikan bahwa ukuran merupakan faktor penting dalam akumulasi logam berat oleh moluska. Indeks Akumulatif menunjukkan bahwa akumulasi logam tertinggi oleh moluska terjadi di kawasanbekas penambangan bauksit dan Geloina sp lebih baik dijadikan sebagai indikator untuk logam Zn sedangkan untuk logam Cu dan Pb lebih baik digunakan Calliostoma sp.Kata kunci : logam berat, sedimen, moluska, indeks akumulatifAbstractConcentrations of lead, copper and zinc were measured in molluscs (Geloina sp and Calliostoma sp) andsediment samples collected from Sei Jang estuary Riau Indonesia. Concentrations of those metals in molluscswere higher than in sediments, except for lead in Geloina sp which was slightly lower than sediments.Geloina sp accumulates zinc more than threefold of the concentration in sediment, whilst Calliostoma spaccumulates copper more than fourteen-fold of the sediment concentrations. Elevated concentrations of heavymetals in an ex-bauxite mining area, dockyard and anthropogenic activities were found. Accumulation ofmetals in molluscs varied between sizes where larger size accumulated more metals than smaller size indicatingthat size is an important consideration for metal accumulation. Average accumulative indices indicated thathighest metals accumulation by molluscs occurred in the area of an ex-bauxite mining activities. These indicesalso suggested that Geloina sp was better to be used as indicator organism for zinc, whilst Calliostoma sp wasconsidered to be suitable indicator organisms for the accumulation of copper and lead.Key words : heavy metals, sediment, mollusc, Accumulative index

Abstract

The research was conducted from November 2011 to January 2012 in the mineral soil ofKebun Kayangan, PT Salim Ivomas Pratama to estimate the potential of carbon stock of thebamboo and to quantify the amount of carbon that can be absorbed by bamboo plants. Theresults of the research showed that carbon content of culm biomass from 50.68 to 54.87%(mean of 53.84%), leaf from 47.68 to 53.76% (mean of 51.47%) and twigs/branches from51,97 to 52,86 % (mean of 52.48%). The average of carbon content of the bamboo plantbiomass was 52.60%. Biomass obtained from the bamboo plants with different heights were145.07 g (1 m height), 461.33 g (3 m height), 834.79 g (5 m height), 999.24 g (7 m height),781.14 g (9 m height), 958.31 g (11 m height) and 1,925.67 g (12 m height). The average ofthe bamboo biomass was 872.22 g/individual. The potential of the bamboo biomass from23.47 to 29.82 t ha -1 with a mean of 26.30 t ha-1. Carbon stocks obtained from the bambooplants with different heights were 78.07 g C (1 m height), 248.04 g C (3 m height), 448.64 gC (5 m height), 541.68 g C (7 m height), 425.72 g C (9 m height), 519.67 g C (11 m height),1,029.79 g C (12 m height) and the average was 470.23 g C/individual. The potential ofcarbon stock of the bamboo ranged from 12.61 to 15.93 t C ha-1 with a mean of 14.08 t C ha -1. Total carbon stock in bamboo plantation were 52.55 t C ha-1, which was itemized asfollows : carbon stocks of bamboo 14.08 t C ha -1, under storey 0.11 t C ha-1, litter 2.83 t Cha-1 and soil 35.53 t C ha -1. Allometric equations to estimate of biomass according to high ofbamboo plant was Polynomial Y = - 520.31 + 684.62x – 113.76x2 + 6.0227x3 {Y = biomass(g) and x = plant height (m)}. Allometric equations to estimate carbon stock according tohigh of bamboo plant was Polynomial Y = - 274.64 + 362.45x – 59.81x2 + 3.1594x3 {Y =carbon stocks (g) and x = plant height (m)}.

Abstract

This study has been conducted from May to June 2012 to analyze the levels oforganophosphate pesticide residues and antioxidant in two types of spinach taken fromKartama Plantation District of Marpoyan Damai Pekanbaru. The results showed thatorganophosphate pesticide residues in green spinach were higher than that in red spinach.On the contrery, the levels of antioxidant were found to be higher in green spinach than thered one. In general, there was no significant correlation between pesticide residues andantioxidant in both types of spinach. Nine out of eighteen analyzed samples were exceededthe permissible level of pesticide in commonly consumed vegetables.

Abstract

Study on the pollution load index by means of heavy metal parameter in Siak river ofPekanbaru City has been conducted from February to May 2012. Samplings were conductedat two sites which were considered to have different input of pollutants. The heavy metalsstudied were Pb, Cu and Zn. The results showed that almost all water quality parameters,with the exception of zinc in Station 1, have exceeded the quality standards according to PP.82/2001 Republic of Indonesia for Class I and II. Estimated Pb load amounted to 889.55tons/month, Zn 737.10 tons/month and Cu of 726.37 tons/month. Referring to the index ofheavy metal contaminants Pb, Cu and Zn by Kep Men LH No. 115/2003, it is suggested thatthe condition of Siak River in Pekanbaru City especially at Station 1 was slightly pollutedwhilest Station 2 was considered as heavily polluted and could be harmful when used as araw material for drinking water as well as for recreation facilities, aquaculture, livestock andfor agriculture irrigation.

Abstract

A study on the concentrations of Pb and Cu in the surface seawater and sedimenthas been conducted to determine the concentrations and to assess their spatial dis-tribution in Tanjung Buton coastal waters. All water quality parameters measuredin the present study were still in the range of tolerable levels for the survival ofmarine organisms. Heavy metal concentrations in surface seawater and sedimentwere found to have almost similar trend where the highest concentrations werefound in station closed to the most populated area in the former port area. Concen-trations of Pb in both seawater and sediment were higher than Cu. Vertical distribu-tion of Cu in sediment were clearly noticed where the concentration in deeper layerwere found to have higher concentration when compared to the upper layers (al-though they were statistically non significant) which shows the effects of anthropo-genic activities in the former port area. Concentration of Pb in seawater were possi-tively correlated with that in sediment (y = 15,58 + 5,573x; r = 0,31), whilst Cushows negative correlation (y = 0,91 - 10,5x; r = 0,1). Higher concentration ofheavy metals was assumed to be related to an increase in population inhabited thesurrounding waters and anthropogenic activities such as dumping of debris, ports,boat traffic and other anthropogenic sources. In general, the concentrations of Pband Cu in Tanjung Buton coastal waters were comparatively lower than reportedvalues in regional studies. As the ever increasing human activities and rapid devel-opments in many infrastructures and industry sectors, a continuous environmentmonitoring program should be implemented to keep and protect the sustainableTanjung Buton coastal resources.

Abstract

Analysis of heavy metals content in blood cockle (Anadara granosa) fromBagansiapiapi coastal waters has been conducted. Samples were collected in Au-gust 2011 and heavy metals content analysis was carried out by using AAS PerkinElmer 3110 in Marine Chemistry Laboratory Faculty of Fisheries and MarineScience, University of Riau. The result shows that the mean heavy metals contentin the shells (2.72 and 22.20 μg/g) were higher than that in the soft tissues (1.32and 20.51 μg/g) for Pb and Cu respectively. Heavy metals content was increasedwith increasing size where smaller size (15-26 mm) contained 1.16 μg/g Pb and21.67μg/g Cu; medium size (27-38 mm) 1.39 μg/g Pb and 14.67μg/g Cu whilstlarge size (39-50 mm) contained 1.40μg/g Pb and 25.18μg/g Cu. Simple linearregression analysis indicated positive correlations between heavy metals content inthe soft tissues and shell with the size of the cockle (y = 1,0680 + 0,007x; r = 0,295and y = 0,073x + 0,338; r = 0,901 for Pb and y = -1,646 + 0,570x; r = 0,927 and y= 21,01 + 0,036x; r = 0,268 for Cu) respectively. In general, the calculated PTWIas established by FAO/WHO suggested that to avoid negative health effects, peopleshould consumed blood cockle from Bagansiapiapi coastal waters not to exceed5.30 kg/week (based on Pb concentration) and 47.78 kg/week (based on Cuconcentration). The results of the study also indicated that blood cockle can be usedas biomonitoring agent for heavy metal pollution.

Abstract

Heavy metal concentrations in sediment collected from Dumai coastal waters have been studied by using sequential extraction technique to determine the distribution and geochemical speciation (EFLE, acid reducible, oxidisable organic and resistant) of Cd, Cu and Ni. The results showed that the highest concentrations of total Cd was in Cargo Port area and the lowest in Penyembal, whilst for Cu and Ni the highest concentrations were in Ferry Port and the lowest in Batu Panjang.  The total concentrations of Cd, Cu and Ni ranged from 0.65 – 1.82, 1.84 – 13.16 and 7.68 – 17.98 µg/g dry weight, respectively. Higher metal concentrations were detected in the eastern and central parts of Dumai city center where most of anthropogenic activities are concentrated. However, most of the concentrations of Cd, Cu and Ni were still below the ERL and ERM values. Only at few stations, especially in the eastern and central parts of Dumai, showed Cd concentrations exceed the ERL but still well below the ERM values. Metal concentrations in 78.26% (Cd) and 91.30% (Cu and Ni) of the sampling stations were dominated by resistant fraction indicating natural origin of these metals. Non resistant fractions, however, were found higher than resistant fractions at Pelintung, Pertamina, Cargo Port, Penyembal and Batu Panjang for Cd; Penyembal and Batu Panjang for Cu and Pelintung and Guntung for Ni. These findings indicated that anthropogenic inputs of Cd, Cu and Ni occurred in these stations. For all sampling site groups, Cd, Cu and Ni were mostly accumulated in the resistant fraction (55.28 – 58.31%; 65.02 – 91.84% and 50.08 – 66.88% of the total concentrations respectively) which indicated that the mobility and anthropogenic inputs of these metals in Dumai coastal waters were quite low.

Abstract

The concentrations of Cd, Cu, Pb, Zn, Ni and Fe were determined in the marine gastropod Nerita lineata collected on May 2005 from the intertidal zone of fourteen stations in Dumai, Indonesia (mean length 21.43 – 24.04 mm) and ten stations in Johor, Peninsular Malaysia (mean length 22.61 – 26.60 mm). The results of the present study showed that metal concentrations in the shell, operculum and soft tissue of N. lineata varied at different sampling stations. The mean concentrations of Cd, Cu, Pb, Zn, Ni and Fe in the samples collected from Dumai were 4.14; 5.90; 44.43; 3.74; 20.73; 24.91 μg/g in shell; 4.16; 7.31; 51.78; 17.63; 23.52; 30.60 μg/g in operculum and 0.71; 15.16; 9.34; 94.69; 5.08; 397.96 μg/g dry weight in the total soft tissue; whilst those collected from Johor were 4.18; 5.06; 59.84; 4.8122; 19.29; 31.60 μg/g in shell; 4.73; 6.51; 60.57; 19.48; 20.68; 34.92 μg/g in operculum and 1.24; 18.02; 19.75; 95.09; 5.57; 473.56 μg/g dry weight in the total soft tissue, respectively. Samples of N. lineata from both Dumai and Johor tend to show similar trend in metal accumulation in which the concentrations of Cd, Pb and Ni decreased in the order: operculum > shell > soft tissue whilst Cu, Zn and Fe in the order of soft tissue > operculum > shell. In general, samples from Johor accumulated higher heavy metal concentrations when compared to samples from Dumai, except for Cu and Ni in the shell and operculum, which exhibited vice versa situation. Higher concentrations of metals were recorded in samples collected from the stations close to the industrial and anthropogenic activities. However, most of the concentrations were still comparable to the previous reported studies from other geographical areas.

Abstract

Research about heavy metal concentration and organic matters in waters and sediments inSiak River Near the harbor of Indah Kiat Pulp and Paper corporation were conducted onJuly 2012. Samples of water and sediment were collected from seven different station andanalyzed in the Integrated laboratory of Fisferies and Marine Science Faculty University ofRiau. The results of the average concentration of Pb, Cr, and Zn in Waters were 0,577 mg/L,0,099 mg/L, and 0,065 mg/L and 14,160 μg/g, 4,116 μg/g, and 3,867 μg/g in sediment. Theresults of simple liear regression between metal concentration of Pb, Cr and Zn and organicmatters in waters and sediments showed a positive correlation except for Cr in watersshowed a negative correlation. This means that increasing concentration Heavy metals inwaters and organic matters would be follow by the increasing of heavy metals concentrationin sediments. The concentration of all hevy metals in all stasion were below the standardconcentration of ERM and ERL also the PLI, Igeo and MPI.
