Natural Ways of Learning Applied in Teaching Grammar to Young Learners in the Third Grade of SD Supriyadi Semarang in the Academic Year 2011-2012

Abstract

Grammar is supposed to be taught to young learners in a kind of nature ways that students will not be aware that they are learning grammar. The approach that can be applied in teaching grammar to young learners is using game-like activities, role-playing/drama, and TPR. Those methods of teaching can be used in the process of teaching learning so that it can make the English lesson become fun and exciting for young learners. The aims of this research are to study and describe the development of children’s intelligence from the viewpoint of learning abilities and mention such methods that are related to natural ways of learning which follow the principles of the development. All the issues mentioned will be involved in the theoretical part. Using the natural ways of teaching Grammar techniques; puzzle in chain words, one word story game, literature in reading and writing story game, and TPR game was able to improve the students’ ability in mastering Grammar at the point of constructing positive, negative, and interrogative sentence that can be seen from the average of the pre-test score (72.19) and the post-test score (80.12). The result of the pre-test score was lower (72.19) than the post-test score (80.12). This research is quite urgent as the technique of teaching grammar that has already been applied in English class is still using the conventional technique. At present, most of the English teachers prefer giving the presentation of grammar theory to giving grammar activities that will enable students to learn without they are aware that they are studying grammar. In order to change the presentation of the materials that stil uses the conventional techniques in teaching grammar, it is important for English teachers to make the use of natural ways of learning techniques applied in teaching grammar to young learners.

Abstract

This research is a model research of traditional snack as simulation media of child’s development in bilingual learning as method to maintain local wisdom. The model of traditional snack as simulation media of child’s development in bilingual learning as method to maintain local wisdom start with needs analysis then develop and construct the learning model. The learning model is expected to be used by kinder garden teacher as reference to increase student’s communication ability in bilingual learning through traditional snack as simulation media of child’s development. This research continued with prior study by literacy analysis and construct learning draft model then made research instruments. The last step of this research was wrote learning model of traditional snack as simulation media of child’s development in bilingual learning as method to maintain local wisdom. The result of this research show t-table 0.05 value was 2.042 beside the t-test result was 3.61. t-test result was higher than t-table, it mean that the research hypothesis was accepted and student’s communication has significantly result after learning model of traditional snack as simulation media of child’s development was applied in learning process. Abstract

Early learning experiences are crucial to establish the foundation for the acquisition of knowledge and skills that will affect later learning and behaviour. As teaching English at the early age is very crucial, learning experiences should be thoughtfully planned and guided by the teacher. It is found out that there are still many kindergarten students who still find difficulties in learning English vocabularies for  the strategies and teaching learning media that are conveyed by the the teachers are not sufficient to support the English class in kindergarten and the English teaching learning process is still teacher-centered with less interaction between teachers and students and also between students and students. The effects of those conditions make the students pay less attention on the English activities given by their teachers, respond passively to the questions and the instructions from the teachers, and give unhappy expression when joining the English activities. Having a look at those problems, the strategies in the process of teaching learning, will contribute to the output of students’ learning. In this article, it will discuss six strategies to improve kindergarten students’ English skills through learning in real-life contexts. Those strategies are knowing the early stages of learning, developing the activities of learning in real-life contexts, developing the activities of integrated learning, developing an effective literacy environment, developing the activities of learning early numeracy in real-life contexts, and creating a supportive learning Environment.

Abstract

AbstractBrain Gym to maximalise the potensial of the young children in Himpaudi Kecamatan Tembalang is a kind of workshop given to the teachers in order to implement Brain Gym so as to overcome the learning problems of the young children. The materials that are given to the teachers are about how to understand about the concept of Brain Gym, the theories of Brain Gym, the practice of the Brain Gym that is able to give great contribution to overcome the students’ learning problems. The movement of Brain Gym consists of 26 movements. Brain Gym covers three areas of brain dimention, those are literary, focus, and centralisation. The first part of brain dimention is related to the dimension of left and right brain that has relation with the ability of communication. The second part of brain dimension is related to front and back dimension of the brain that relate to the stem of the brain and it has correlation with the ability of concentration, understanding and interpretation. The last dimension of brain is related to centralisation that has relation with up and down part of the middle part of the brain. It relates to the capability of arranging and organizing something. With the implementation of IbM Brain Gym, it is hoped that the teachers in Himpaudi Kecamatan Tembalang Semarang are proactive enough to implement this kind of gym so as to anticipate and to overcome the learning problems of the students.Key Words: Brain-Gym, Three Dimension of Brain, Literary, Focus, CentralisationAbstrakIpteks yang akan ditransfer kepada HIMPAUDI Kecamatan Tembalang Semarang adalah pelatihan konsep dasar dan teori Brain-Gym. Pelatihan Brain-Gym sangat besar manfaatnya untuk mengatasi problem belajar anak. Senam otak ini terdiri dari 26 gerakan. Brain-Gym atau senam otak meliputi tiga dimensi otak yang utama yaitu lateralitas, fokus, dan pemusatan. Dimensi otak yang pertama yaitu lateralitas terkait dengan dimensi otak kiri dan kanan yang berhubungan dengan kemampuan komunikasi. Dimensi otak yang kedua adalah fokus, terkait dimensi muka-belakang dengan melibatkan batang otak yang berhubungan dengan kemampuan konsentrasi, mengerti, dan memahami. Dimensi otak yang terakhir adalah pemusatan, terkait dimensi atas-bawah dengan melibatkan otak tengah yang berhubungan dengan kemampuan mengatur dan mengorganisasikan sesuatu. Melalui Brain-Gym untuk guru Himpaudi Kecamatan Tembalang, diharapkan para guru dapat menerapkan senam otak ini sebagai bagian dari program kegiatan sekolah yang harus dilaksanakan pada tiap minggunya sebagai bagian dari pelajaran olah raga, sehingga manfaatnya tidak hanya untuk kebugaran siswa tetapi secara tidak langsung juga memberikan manfaat untuk mengatasi problem belajar anak.Kata Kunci: Brain-Gym, Tiga Dimensi Otak, Lateralitas, Fokus, Pemusatan

Abstract Science and technology  transferred to the  teachers of early childhood education in  Tembalang Semarang  are the training how to apply the moral values ​​in the learning for early childhood and  the  use of software Cullen ABC s as teaching aids for developing creativity and intellectual power of early childhood where the material delivered in training is , " Bringing Books in the Life of Early Childhood : Teaching Character Education Through Childrens Literature " , " Moral Values ​​of Early Childhood Education and Cullen ABC s " , "the  Use of story For Development of Moral Education for Early Childhood " , and " ABC s Cullen as Educational Games and Teaching Aids " . Abstract

Ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi yang akan di transfer kepada guru-guru PAUD Nurul Ilmi   Semarang adalah pelatihan bagaimana menerapkan pembelajaran English for Math untuk anak usia dini dan dengan materi Mathematics: What your Child Wil be Workig on in Kindergarten, Pembelajaran Matematika untuk Anak Usia Dini, Pembelajaran Bilingual untuk Anak Usia Dini, dan English Math for Early Childhood Education. Dengan adanya IbM English Math for Kindergarten Students   sebagai game edukasi sekaligus   teaching aids maka diharapkan akan memberikan kontribusi bagi guru-guru PAUD untuk lebih mengembangkan ide-ide kreatif dalam mengajar sehingga suasana pembelajaran lebih menyenangkan selain juga memupuk kreatifitas dan mengembangkan potensi serta semangat belajar anak usia dini.   Kata kunci: English for Math, Pembelajaran, Anak Usia Dini.

Abstract
