Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi dan menghitung prevalensi spesies cacing pada babi di Bali yang memiliki bentuk telur yang sama yaitu bentuk tipe strongyle. Sebanyak 240 sampel feses babi yang berasal dari peternakan babi yang tersebar di seluruh wilayah Bali telah diperiksa menggunakan modifikasi dari metode Roberts dan O’Sullivan yaitu kultur feses yang menunjukkan hasil positif pada pemeriksaan mikroskopis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan sebanyak 60% babi di Bali terinfeksi cacing type strongyle. Setelah dilakukan kultur feses, teridentifikasi dua jenis cacing yaitu Hyostrongylus rubidus dan Oesophagostomum dentatum dengan prevalensi masing-masing yaitu  41,25% dan 47,5%.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui prevalensi infeksi cacing Toxocara vitulorum pada induk dan anak sapi bali di wilayah Bali Timur. Sebanyak 720 sampel feses sapi bali yang terdiri dari 360 sampel feses induk sapi bali dan 360 sampel feses anakan (pedet) sapi bali telah diperiksa menggunakan metode pengapungan. Hasil pemeriksaan secara keseluruhan menunjukkan prevalensi T. vitulorum pada sapi bali di wilayah Bali timur sebesar 39,4 %. Dari 360 induk sapi bali terdapat 153 (42,5%) sampel yang positif terinfeksi T. vitulorum. Sedangkan dari pemeriksaan 360 sampel feses pedet sapi bali, terdeteksi sebanyak 131 (36,4%) sampel pedet yang terinfeksi T.vitulorum.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui kandungan zat gizi dari telur itik asin yang dibuat dengan menggunakan media kulit buah manggis ditinjau dari kadar air, kadar abu, kadar lemak, kadar protein dan kadar karbohidrat selama masa pemeaman. Menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL), dengan 2 faktor perlakuan yaitu faktor pertama meliputi telur yang telah dilapisi media kulit buah manggis dan telur yang dilapisi media batu bata. Sedangkan faktor kedua yakni jangka waktu pemeraman telur yaitu selama 7, 14 dan 21 hari. Metode yang dipergunakan dalam pemeriksaan nilai gizi telur merujuk pada standar yang dikeluarkan oleh AOAC (1984). Data hasil penelitian dianalisa menggunakan Uji T untuk membandingkan kadar gizi kedua jenis telur asin tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa selama proses pemeraman dengan menggunakan media kulit buah manggis yang diamati pada hari ke 7, 14 dan 21 terjadi penurunan kadar air dan kadar lemak telur asin berturut-turut dari 68.02% menjadi 63.54% dan 14.23% menjadi 13.26%. Sedangkan  kadar abu, protein dan karbohidrat mengalami peningkatan berturut-turut dari 1.4% menjadi 2.69%, 13.54% menjadi 13.61% dan 1.93% menjadi 6.89%. Apabila dibandingkan dengan media batu bata, seluruh parameter nilai gizi tidak menunjukkan perbedaan yang signifikan (P>0,05). Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa media kulit buah manggis dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai media pembuatan telur asin.

Abstract

Sistiserkosis adalah infeksi yang disebabkan oleh stadium larva cacing pita babi (Taenia solium) yang masih menimbulkan problem kesehatan masyarakat. Papua merupakan salah satu daerah endemik terbesar sistiserkosis di Indonesia. Survai ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui seroprevalensi sistiserkosis di Kabupaten Mimika, Papua. Total 44 sampel serum babi diperiksa yang berasal dari Distrik Kwamki Narama (28 sampel), Mimika Baru (13 sampel), dan Kuala Kencana (3 sampel) menggunakan Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). Hasil survei menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata seroprevalensi sistiserkosis di Kabupaten Mimika, Papua sebesar 50% (22/44), dengan seroprevalensi terbesar ditemukan di Distrik Kuala Kencana 100% (3/3), Distrik Kwamki Narama 46,4% (13/28), dan Distrik Mimika Baru 46,1% (6/13).  Disimpulkan bahwa seroprevalensi sistiserkosis di Kabupaten Mimika, Papua sangat tinggi, sehingga diperlukan tindakan pencegahan dan penanggulangan yang lebih intensif

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to determine the level of nutrient in duck salted eggs made by using mangosteen rind media observed by water content, ash, fat, protein and carbohydrate during salting periods. This research used Completely Randomized Design (CRD), with twofactors. First were media;   mangosteen rind media and brick media. Second were salting periods;7, 14 and 21 days. The level of nutrient contain in duck salted eggs measured according to  Association of Official Analytical Chemist (1984) methods. These data analyzed by T tests tocompare the level of nutrient contain in duck salted eggs produced between medias during saltingperiods. The results show that during the curing process by using the mangosteen rind media wasobserved at days 7, 14 and 21 decreased water and fat content of salted eggs. While the ash, proteinand carbohydrates content increased successively. When compared with the bricks media, all levelof nutritional parameters did not show a significant difference. So it can be concluded that themangosteen rind can be used as a media for making salted eggs.

Abstract

Cysticercosis is an infection caused by the larval stage of pork tapeworm (Taenia solium)which still poses a public health problem. Papua is one of the largest endemic areas of cysticercosisin Indonesia. This survey aim was to determine the seroprevalence of cystisercosis in Mimikaregion, Papua. A total of 44 pig serum samples were collected from Kwamki Narama district (28samples), Mimika Baru (13 samples), and Kuala Kencana (3 samples) they were examined by using Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The result of the survey showed that theaverage of seroprevalence of cysticercosis in Mimika region, Papua was 50% (22/44), where thelargest seroprevalence found in the district of Kuala Kencana was 100% (3/3), District of KwamkiNarama was 46,4% (13/28), and district of Mimika Baru was 46,1% (6/13). It concluded that theseroprevalence of cysticercosis in Mimika was very high.Therefore,it is necessary to do moreintensive programs to prevent and control this disease.

Abstract

This research aims were to determine the type and prevalence of infections of gastrointestinal protozoan in piglets were sold in the pig traditional markets in Bali. As many as 250 piglets fecal samples were examined. All fecal samples were taken in a fresh state and then divided in two different sollution, one stored in plastic pots containing acetic sodium formaldehyde (SAF) for examination by sedimentation concentration method and another samples were stored in plastic pots containing potassium dichromate for examination by the method of floating. Samples were examined microscopically for the presence of cysts or oocystsof gastrointestinal protozoa. The results showed that 229 (91.6%) piglets were sold in the pigtraditional markets in Bali  infected by protozoa, and identified three Genus of protozoa with following prevalence of infection were Amoeba sp. 82.4%, Balantidium sp. 61.2% and Eimeria sp. 54.8%.

Abstract

The biological studies of Taenia saginata metacestoda development have been conducted in Bali cattle. Two Bali cattle were used as the samples; each was infected by 500.000 T. saginata eggs.  Cattle I and II were slaughtered and examined for the presence of T. saginata metacestodas,103 and 131 days post infection, respectively. All visceral organs and skeletal muscles were thoroughly inspected; incisions and inspection were done following the routine meat inspection.  In cattle I, was observed 534 metacestodas in the skeletal muscles, heart, and diaphragm.  The metacestodas had the form an oval bladder measuring around 3 x 2 mm. While, in cattle II was observed 2,249 metacestodas in the skeletal muscles, heart, diaphragm, and tongue measuring around 4 x 3 mm.  The finding of the present study may indicate that in Bali cattle the oncospheres of T. saginata might reach its optimal development (in to T. saginata metacestoda) in four months post infection.    

Increasing Farmer Income By Improved Pig Management Systems

Abstract

This research aims were to increase house hold income of pig farmer by reconstructing of the pig management systems. The methods used in this study were the application of the problem solving techniques through IPTEKDALIPI programs. The captured data were all expenses incurred and income received in one pig production period before and after intervention. The results showed that there was a significant increase in the income of the farmer from 31.4% to 38.77%. It could be concluded that the pig farmer’s income can be increased through improved management of pig farming systems.

Kualitas Daging Sapi Bali dan Daging Wagyu yang Disimpan pada Suhu Dingin

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kualitas daging sapi lokal dan daging sapi impor. Contohnya daging sapi bali yang merupakan sapi lokal dan daging Wagyu yang merupakan daging sapi impor. Parameter yang digunakan dalam menentukan kualitas daging tersebut meliputi pH, Kadar Air, Daya Ikat Air (DIA) dan Tekstur. Untuk mempertahankan kualitas daging, alternatif yang biasa digunakan adalah penyimpanan daging pada suhu dingin. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan informasi tentang  daging Wagyu dan daging sapi bali pada penyimpanan suhu dingin 40C dalam jangka waktu selama 0-5 hari. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai pH daging Wagyu yaitu (5,50) nyata (P<0,05) lebih rendah dari daging sapi bali (5,60) sedangkan rata-rata kadar air daging Wagyu yaitu (57,72%) nyata (P<0,05) lebih rendah dari daging sapi bali (74,59%), dan rata-rata daya ikat air daging Wagyu yaitu (61,11%) nyata (P<0,05) lebih rendah dari daging sapi bali (64,36%). Demikian pula nilai rata-rata tekstur daging Wagyu yaitu (3,3) nyata (P<0,05) lebih tinggi dari daging sapi bali (2,1). Selama penyimpanan di suhu dingin 40C terjadi kenaikan nilai pH, penurunan kadar air, daya ikat air, dan tekstur daging sapi bali maupun daging Wagyu.
