Abstract

The research on vegetative breeding of jack fruit has been conducted through grafting method, aiming at finding out the compatibility of lower cultivar resisting to drought stress with the jack fruit entries of pre-eminent varieties originally from central Sulawesi. Generally, the results of the research indicated that all entries except those grafted with the root stock BK-3 and TL-5 could only survive for 2 weeks leaving only their dead scions.  The latter appeared to be compatible with the Palupi entries as they were still able to live and grew until this research ended

Abstract

This study aimed to assess the characteristics of local mango plants based on their                       leaf morphology and anatomy.  The morphological observations were conducted in Funta                  Sindue,of Donggala district and Oloboju Sigi Biromaru of Sigi district while the anatomy was     determined in the Biotechnology Laboratory at Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Tadulako University from January to April 2016. The morphological parameters observed were plant age, plant height, stem diameter, canopy diameter, canopy shape and stemcolor whilst the variable sof leaf  anatomy  were stomata size, epidermis size, stomata number, epidermis number, stomata density and stomata  index. The morphological and anatomical characters observed by a cluster analysis were described in  the form of a dendogram. The results of cluster analysis of both villages at a distance of    0540 resulted  in three accessions which are OB12, OB13 and OB15. The OB13 was found to have   highest stomata   index and stomata density while the OB12 has the lowest ones. The OB15 also has lowest stomata density.Keywords : Dendogram,  Mango, Morphology, Leaf anatomy.

Abstract

The research aims were to determine the cocoa seed vigor of various storage periods and seed invigorant viewed from aspect of seed physiology quality. This research was a two factorial experiment in a completely randomized design. The first factor was the time length of storage consisted of 5 levels: i) Control, ii) 2 week, iii) 4 weeks, iv) 6 weeks, and v) 8 weeks. The second factor was seed invigoration using ZPT consisted of 4 types: i) without ZPT, ii). 0.01 mmol GA3, iii) 0.01 mmol GA3 + 0.1 mmol NAA, and iv) coconut milk. The data obtained was analyzed using variant analysis; the data with coefficient of variation more than 20 % was transformed to x + 0.5 whereas treatment with significant influence was advanced with HSD test with level of 0.05. The research findings showed that a longer period of seed storage led to the reduction of seed vigor. Invigoration with GA3 + NAA also contributed to a better seed vigor though it was not significantly different from GA3 invigoration and coconut milk. All seed invigoration treatment (GA3 + NAA and coconut milk) could slow seed deterioration up to 6 week storage.

Abstract

This study aimed to assess the characteristics of mango plants based on their leaf morphology and anatomy in Bahomoleo and Bente villages, Central Bungku sub district, Morowali district. Observation on morphological features was implemented in Bahomoleo and Bente village, whereas anatomical observations were made in the Laboratory of Biotechnology, Faculty of  Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Tadulako University.  The study was conducted in March to May 2016. The morphological parameters observed included plant age, plant height, stem diameter, canopy diameter, canopy shape and bar color.  The leaf anatomy variables consisted of stomata size, epidermis size, stomata number, epidermis number, stomatal density and stomatal index.The morphological and anatomical characters observed based on a cluster analysis and were described in a dendogram form. The results of cluster analysis of both villages on the distance of 0.648 resulted in three accessions namely BT1, BT8 and BM9. The highest stomatal index of both villages is the accession BT8 and the lowest accession is the BM9, while the highest stomatal density/mm2is the accession BT8, and the lowest one is the accession BT1 and BM9.  Keywords: Dendogram, Leaf anatomy, Morphology, and Mango.

Abstract

The research aim was to find out the effect of seed scarification and germination substrate upon seed viability and seedling vigor of aren.  The research applied a randomized block design with factorial pattern consisting of two factors.  The first factor was scarification treatment: without scarification, scarification at 400C, scarification at 400C and soaked in 0.5% KNO3 solution for 36 hours.  The second factor was germination substrate:  sand, rice hull coal, cocopith, mixture of soil taken from natural palm growth area and organic material at a ratio 1:1, and mixture of 1 g NPK fertilizer with 1 kg soil taken from palm tree forest area and organic material media.  The greatest seed germination of 83.33?86.67% with germinating speed of 0.85-1.04 %etmal was found in the scarification at 400C soaking in 0.5% KNO3 solution for 36 hours and soil organic and matter treatment. This treatment also resulted in normal vigorous seed indicated by higher dry content weight and hypothetic vigor index than any other treatments.

Abstract

Mangosteen (GarciniamangostanaL.) is Indonesia's flagship fruit commodity which is widely distributed in Central Sulawesi with high export value and very potential to be developed into superior export commodities. Central Sulawesi has good mangosteen production potential, but it is still on the scale of house yard.  Thus, to increase the potential of mangosteen production, it is necessary to provide selected trees which can be used as seed sources. This research used survey and direct descriptive method, and data obtained was analyzed using cluster analysis. The research was conducted inPamona and Tendeadongi villages, Pamona Utara sub-district, Poso District. The analysis of mangosteen leaf anatomy was carried out in the Laboratory of Plant Pests and Diseases of Faculty of Agriculture, University of Tadulako. This study was conducted from December 2016 to February 2017. The results of cluster analysis showed that there are three different accession groups in either village.  The groups in Pamona village were PM4, PM7 and PM3 whereas in Tendeadongiwere TD15, TD1 and TD13. The combined accession between mangosteen of Pamona and Tendeadongivillage areconsisted of four different accessional groups represented by PM3, TD1, TD13 and TD15.Keywords: Anatomy,cluster, mangosteen, and morphology.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The aim of this research was to find high seed viability and vigor of Kweni manggo selected from various seed sources in Bente village, Central Bungku sub district, Morowali district. The research was conducted from April to July 2017 at the Seed Science and Technology Laboratory, and at the Academic Garden of the Agriculture Faculty of Tadulako University, Palu. This study used a one factorial completely randomized design with the seed sources as its factor.  The seeds were obtained from trees grown at different sites i.e. Bente village 1, Bente village 3 and Bente village 14.  The seeds were then tested for their vigor using a randomized block design method grouped by the tree height.  The results showed that the seed viability and vigor obtained from the Bente 14 parent trees are higher than those from the other sources in Bente village, Central Bungku d sub district, Morowali district. Keyword: Manggo, sources of seed, viability, vigour.
