Abstract

The objective of the experiment was  to investigate the physical and chemical characteristic of eight genotypes of papaya i.e. IPB1, IPB 2A, IPB 3, IPB 3A, IPB 4, IPB 7, IPB 8, and IPB 9 on two stages of ripening period based on percentage of the yellow area of fruit  peel (75% yellow and 100% yellow).  The fruits were picked at 25% yellow of fruit peel colour. The experiment was conducted in split plot with completely randomized block design. The main plot was ripening periods of 75% and 100% ripe, while the genotypes were taken at  sub-plot.  There was no significant different on physical and chemical characteristics between papaya at stadium 75% and 100% yellow. Flesh firmness of IPB 9 was better than  IPB 1, IPB 4 and IPB 8.  Ascorbic acid content of IPB 4 (107.36 mg/100 g) was higher than that of IPB 2A and IPB 3A. Carotenoid content of IPB 4 (29.73 mg/100g) was higher than that of the other genotypes.   Key words: Carica papaya,  physical characteristic, chemical characteristic, ascorbic acid, carotenoid

Abstract

Hybridization program was started in PKBT IPB Bogor in 2003, entangles of 12 parental cultivars, consisting of five type Smooth Cayenne cultivars and seven type Queen cultivars. The cross yielded 195 genotypes with various different character combinations. The result of cluster analysis based on morphological characters showed that there were 33 groups of hybrid at the degree of genetic similarity of 50%. The result of principal component analysis indicated that, between yield component characters and result most importantly, were fruit weight, fruit diameter and fruit length which were main supporting character of variance in hybrid result of the crosses. Descriptive results of fruit yield and quality characters showed three to five classes with the highest number of individuals around the mean value for each character.Simak Baca secara fonetik    Fruit weight, crown weight, fruit length, fruit diameter, flesh thickness, core diameter, total soluble solid (TSS), total acid, vitamin C, pH, plant height, and peduncle length, were characters controlled by nuclear genes.   Key words : hybridization,  variability, Smooth Cayenne, Queen, genotype

Abstract

ABSTRACTHypocotyl and cotyledon are potentially used as effective morphological markers since they can be detected earlier. Information on inheritance of tomato hypocotyl and cotyledon was not available. The aims of this research was to study the inheritance of qualitative and quantitative characters of tomato hypocotyl and cotyledon. This research used six population, P1 green hypocotyl (IPB T64), P2 purple hypocotyl (IPB T3), F1, F1R, BCP1, BCP2, and F2. Analysis of qualitative characters used Mendelian and gene action of quantitative characters used joint scaling test. The results of Mendelian indicated that the character of hypocotyl color was controlled by two genes of dominant-recessive epistasis. The gene controlling purple color was dominant to the green color gene. Based on the F2 distribution test, hypocotyl length, cotyledon length and width were controlled by polygenes. There was no influence of maternal effect. The results of the joint scaling test showed gene action of hypocotyl length was controlled by additive gene with influence of additive-dominant epistasis. Length and width of the cotyledon were controlled by additive gene and influence of duplicate epistasis effect. All characters had high level of broad sense heritability and medium level of narrow sense heritability.Keywords: cotyledone, gene action, heritability, hypocotyle, morphology marker.ABSTRAKHipokotil dan kotiledon berpotensi untuk dijadikan sebagai marka morfologi yang efektif karena dapat dideteksi lebih dini. Informasi pola pewarisan karakter hipokotil dan kotiledon tomat belum banyak tersedia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari pola pewarisan karakter kualitatif dan kuantitatif dari hipokotil dan kotiledon tomat sebagai marka morfologi pada tahap awal pertumbuhan tanaman. Penelitian ini menggunakan enam set populasi yaitu P1 hipokotil hijau (IPB T64), P2 hipokoti ungu (IPB T3), F1, F1R, BCP1, BCP2, dan F2. Karakter kualitatif menggunakan analisis Mendel dan pendugaan aksi gen karakter kuantitatif menggunakan analisis skala gabungan. Hasil analisis Mendel menunjukkan bahwa karakter warna hipokotil dikendalikan oleh dua pasang gen epistasis dominan-resesif. Gen pengendali warna ungu bersifat dominan terhadap warna hijau pada hipokotil tomat. Panjang hipokotil, panjang dan lebar kotiledon dikendalikan oleh banyak gen dan tidak ada pengaruh tetua betina berdasarkan uji sebaran populai F2. Hasil analisis skala gabungan menunjukkan bahwa aksi gen karakter panjang hipokotil dikendalikan oleh gen aditif dengan pengaruh epistasis aditif dominan, panjang dan lebar kotiledon dikendalikan oleh gen dominan dengan pengaruh epistasis duplikat. Semua karakter yang diamati memiliki nilai heritabilitas arti luas dalam tingkatan yang tinggi, sedangkan heritabilitas arti sempit dalam tingkatan yang sedang.Kata kunci: aksi gen, heritabilitas, hipikotil, kotiledon, marka morfologi.

Abstract

Floribunda 5(7): 239–252. —  Chempedak [Artocarpus integer (Thunb.) Merr.]  is a native tropical fruit plant of Indonesia. Riau is one of chempedak distribution regions in Indonesia but the information about its diversity is very limited. The aims of the research are to characterize the morphological characters of chempedak’s accessions in Riau and to describe the diversity. The research was conducted in Bengkalis and Padang Islands, Riau province using exploration method. As many as 21 accessions of chempedak and two accessions of jackfruits were observed using 83 characters based on descriptor of jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus). The analysis of similarity and clustering based on morphological data were done using Simple Matching coefficient and Unweighted Pair Group Method with Arithmatic Average (UPGMA) method. The diversity of chempedak in Riau were observed on shape of (crown crop, leaf blade, apex & base of leaf, inflorescences, fruit, spine, flake, seed), stalk length, fruit surface and flake colour. The result produced a dendrogram of chempedak in Riau with the similarity index ranged 44 –83%. Merr.] adalah tanaman buah tropis asli Indonesia. Riau merupakan salah satu daerah persebaran cempedak di Indonesia, namun informasi tentang keanekaragamannya terbatas. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengkarakterisasi ciri morfologi aksesi-aksesi cempedak di Riau dan mengungkapkan keanekaragamannya. Penelitian dilakukan di Pulau Bengkalis dan Pulau Padang, Provinsi Riau menggunakan metode jelajah. Sebanyak 21 aksesi cempedak dan 2 aksesi nangka diamati menggunakan 83 ciri berdasarkan deskriptor nangka (Artocarpus heterophyllus). Analisis keserupaan dan pengelompokan berdasarkan data morfologi menggunakan koefisien SM dan metode UPGMA. Keanekaragaman cempedak di Riau ditemukan pada bentuk-bentuk (kanopi, helaian daun, pangkal & dan ujung helaian daun, perbungaan, buah, duri, bulbus, biji), tangkai perbungaan, permukaan buah, dan warna bulbus. Hasil dendrogram menunjukkan bahwa cempedak di Riau memiliki indeks kemiripan sebesar 44–81%. Dendrogram menunjukkan bahwa cempedak di Riau tidak mengelompok berdasarkan asal pulau.Kata kunci: Buah tropis, ciri morfologi, dendrogram, koefisien Simple Matching, Pulau Bengkalis, Pulau Padang.
