Abstract

Surabaya is the capital city of east java and in the second biggest city in Indonesia. in the last five years, Surabaya has becomegreen and more attractive with ornamental shrubs palettes along the road sides and street medians. Ten species of landscape plants have been identified as ornamental shrubs and herbaceous, and their potential for bioindicators of urban air pollution based on th air pollution tolerance index (APTI). The vegetation monitoring in terms of its APTI acts as a "Bioindicators" of air pollution and can be incorporated into assessment studies. The APTI was formulated by four plant physiology indicator namely leaf extract pH, Relative water Content, Ascorbic acid, and Chlorophyll content. The APTI value ranged between 8.01 and 10.91 on mussaenda philippica and codiaeum variegatum, respectively. Meanwhile, in descriptive opservation, most of the palettes along the road side and street medians were arranged on more than tree species of ornamental shrubs and herbs per 10m2.keyword: bioindicators, ornamental shrubs, Air Pollution Tolerance Index (APTI), plant palettes  ASEAN J. Abstract

Scoliosis is abnormalities in skeletal form of the curvature of the spine , where the spine bending occurs towards the left or right side or abnormalities spine in the form of C or S. Common Signs of scoliosis include different shoulder bone , protruding shoulder blades , spine curvature real , pelvic tilt, the difference between arm and body space. Degree of scoliosis can be known with adam forward Bending and inclinometer test. The purpose of this study was to determine effectivity of swiss ball exercise training and posture correction and training effectiveness Klapp and posture correction exercise in reducing the scoliosis degree in children aged 11-13 years . This type of research was experimental design with pre and post contol group . In this study , 15 respondents were given swiss ball exercise training and 15 respondents were given Klapp excercise training . Each posture correction treatment was given every activity . Exercises performed with 45-minute frequency of 3 times a week for 12 weeks of data in the form of pre test and post test . Obtained by decreasing the degree of scoliosis. The results of this study are in the treatment group swiss ball exercise training the degree of scoliosis occurs with mean difference value of p < 0.05 and showed a significant difference . While in the commission of exercise training occurs Klapp mean difference degrees of scoliosis with a value of p < 0.05 and showed a significant difference. The conclusion of this study is the combination of swiss ball exercises and posture correction equally effective in reducing the degree of scoliosis with Klapp combination of exercise and posture correction in children aged 11-13 years.

Abstract

Patellofemoral pain syndrome is complained of knee pain by young adults who are productive oftenly, syndrome characterized by pain that is felt around the kneecap, and aggravated the activity squat and stand, up and down stairs, and change the position of the knee after a long standstill ( stand up after sitting for a long time). This is due to the weakness of the thigh muscles especially vasus medialis obliquus. Reinforcement of weak muscle in particular strengthening of the vastus medialis  oblique an appropriate treatment to increase the functional activity of the syndrome. The study was a randomized experiment with pre and post-test group design. This study aimed to compare the combining of mulligan techniques and facilitate of vasus medialis obliquus with application of kinesio taping to increase the functional activity of the lower extremities. In this study, 11 respondents were given a combination of mulligan techniques and facilitation of vastus medialis oblique for 5 weeks with a frequency of exercise 3 times a week, and 11 respondents provided application of kinesio taping for 5 weeks with 3 days and replaced with a new taping. Each treatment was measured by the Lower Extremity Fungtional Scale before and after 5 weeks. Statistical analysis parametric paired sample t-test results is the influence of a combining of mulligan techniques and facilitate of vastus medialis oblique and application of kinesio taping to increase the functional activity of the lower extremities with p<0.05. Test of different with the independent sample t-test with a result there are significant difference between the combining of techniques mulligan and facilitation of vasus medialis obliquus with application of kinesio taping values with  p <0.05. Conclusions in this study that a combining of mulligan techniques and facilitation of vasus medialis obliquus, 3 times a week for 5 weeks effectively to increase the functional activity of the lower extremities of patients with patellofemoral pain syndrome compared to application of kinesio taping for 5 weeks with 3 days in a single use.

Abstract

Sedentary Lifestyle has negative impact on health that would lead to overweight or obesity, where it will also lead to impaired balance and risk of falling even cause bodily injury, to improve the physical activity it should be improved, and also to improve the balance there are some exercises such as core stability and balance board. The purpose of this study was to analyze whether core stability exercises and balance board exercise in improving balance better than the balance board exercise on students aged 18-24 years with less physical activity. This research design using experimental research methods pre and post study design. Where the samples were obtained 28 in total obtained from the results of systematic random sampling. In the first group conducted joint exercises core stability and balance board (n = 14). The second group was only exercise balance board. Characteristics of the study subjects obtained a mean value of physical activity in the group of core stability exercises and balance board (314.68) Mets-minute/week, and the mean value of the balance before in group 1 (14.00 s) in the group balance board (286.4) Mets-minute/week. and the mean value of the balance before (11.56 s). data obtained from the above then tested using the Shapiro Wilk normality is found that the core stability and balance board p <0.05, the data are not normally distributed, the balance board group obtained a p value> 0.05 then the data were normally distributed. Different test groups before and after the core stability and balance board using the Wilcoxon signed rank test p value = 0.001 is obtained. p<0.05. Different test groups before and after the balance board by using paired sample test found p value = 0.0002 p<0.05 then get a meaningful result there are significant differences. Conclusions in this study showed that the treatment group core stability and balance board compared with the only balance board can increase the value of the balance standing stork test students with less physical activity.

Abstract

Myogenic low back pain is pain around of the lower back mucle caused by disorder or abnormalities in the elements of muscles and tendons without neurological disorders. Myogenic low back pain may result in pain, muscle spasm and muscle imbalance, so that the stability of abdominal muscles and low back decreased, lumbar mobility is limited, resulting in a decrease in functional activity. The exercise was usually given in a hospital Short Wave Diathermy combined with Williams Flexion Exercise (WFE). The existence of a new method of core stability exercise (CSE) is very important for patients with myogenic low back pain. CSE was function to activate the harmonious movement between the four core muscle groups. The activation of these four core muscles will given stability on the lower back. The purpose of this study to determine core stability exercise is better than Williams Flexion Exercise increases the functional activity in patients with myogenic low back pain. This study uses a quasi experimental design with pre-test and post-test control group design. The experiment was conducted in a clinic in Denpasar. Subjects were 28 patients who fulfill the criteria were established of the researchers. The increasing of functional activity was measured with the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) before and after training. Subjects were divided into two groups, they are the treatment group was given SWD and CSE three times a week and a control group given SWD and WFE three times a week. The results of statistical test was obtained, occur of decreasing in ODI scores in the first group with p = 0.001 and in the second group with p = 0.001. It means that the first group and the second group alike can increase the functional activity significantly. From the comparative test data by t-test using the difference data in the two groups was obtained the value p=0.001, which means significantly. The difference mean value ODI in first group as 28,86% although the difference ODI in the second group as 15,41%.  From the results of the research can be concluded that the core stability exercises is more increase the functional activity than Williams Flexion Exercise in patients with myogenic low back pain. The study is expected to be beneficial in patients with myogenic low back pain to improving functional activity.

Abstract

Preservation batik has become cultural heritage of Indonesia also needs to be balanced with the protection of the health of batik craftsmen. The health condition of batik craftsman is one off factor in the sustainability of batik in Indonesian because the capital of craftsman working productivity. Workloads such as position and wrong posture at works can lead to complaints of the musculoskeletal system. One of them is low back pain (LBP). LBP can reduce the functional abilities of the craftsmen. LBP is a very common problem in people working age. Structured exercise an option for the treatment of low back pain. Exercise to reduce pain and improve functional activities. The most important component in LBP is strength training exercises and one spinal stability with back strengthening exercises and core stability exercise. The purpose of this study to determine that core stability training exercise is better than a back strengthening exercise in increasing the functional activity of the batik craftsmen with low back pain in Pekalongan. The research designs is experiment true by the one group pre-test and post-test group design, conducted in January to August 2014. Samples were taken by purposive sampling with inclusion and exclusion criteria. In this study consist of 28 people with batik craftsmen low back pain who have worked a minimum of 5-20 years. Subjects were divided into two groups: group 1 (were given training back strengthening exercises) and group 2 (were given training core stability exercise). Measurement instruments to assess the functional activity used the Pain Disability Index (PDI). The result of statistical test with paired t-test found that the reduction in PDI scores of group 1 with p value = 0.001 and data reduction PDI score group 2 p value = 0.001. Abstract

Shoulder impingement causing interference on the motion of the shoulder joint activities and result in functional activity disorder. These injuries usually are caused by faulty movement, overuse, poor posture, occupational factors and trauma. This will cause a burden on one part of the body and cause imbalances in anatomy, which will eventually lead to disruption of the body that experienced work. This study aimed to investigate the effect of functional shoulder exercise and traction humerus to inferior with shoulder stabilization exercises and traction humerus to inferior to the decline in the shoulder and arm disabilities in subacromial impingement syndrome. This research method was experimental clinical trials with pre test and post test group design. Population student Academy Physiotherapy Widya Husada Semarang, which consists of 3 men and 12 women, aged between 18-21 years, divided into two groups. Group I was given Shoulder Stabilization exercises and Traction humerus to Inferior (n=7) and group II Functional Shoulder Exercise and Traction humerus to Inferior (n=8). This research was conducted for 3 weeks. Measurement of the value of disability shoulder and arm by using the Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI). The test results on the group I average value pre 34.17, SB = 6.31, and the average value of post 11.54, SB = 4.02, p = 0.001 found significant differences obtained test results paired sample t-test, and testing group II average value pre 40.18, SB = 3.53, and the average value of post 7.82, SB = 1.57, p = 0.001 found significant differences obtained test results paired sample t-test. Comparison of Group I and II, p = 0.005 there were significant differences, test results obtained independent sample t-test. Conclusions: The combination of shoulder stabilization exercises and traction humerus to inferior can reduce disability shoulder and arm on subacromial impingement syndrome. The combination functional shoulder exercise and traction humerus to inferior can reduce disability shoulder and arm on subacromial impingement syndrome. The combination functional shoulder exercises and traction humerus to inferior better than the combination shoulder stabilization exercises and traction humerus to inferior in lowering disabilities shoulder and arm on subacromial impingement syndrome.

Abstract

The work attitude ofstampbatik workers in conductedtheir dailyworkin standingposition. Static muscle contraction in along timewill cause ashort age of muscle blood flow, which results in reduced energy exchangeand egress metabolic wastein the active muscles, thus causing fatigue and pain. The purposeforknowing whether combination of contract relax stretching and infrared are better todecrease calf muscle pain compared with pedal exercise under compression and infraredon the stamp batik workerin home industries Buaran Pekalongan. Types of experimentalresearch, with the randomized study design pre and post test control group design.Group-1 (n =14) subjectswho receivedpedal exercise under compressionandinfrared,whileGroup-2 (n=14) get contract relax stretching and infrared. Analysis ofthe datawiththePaired Sample t-Test design mean scoresin the calf muscle pain in group1beforetreatmentwas142,857 mmHg and after 6 times treatment be172,142 mmHg, p=0.000. While the scores of calf muscle pain in Group-2 before treatment was 142,857mmHg and after 6 times treatment be170,714 mmHg, p =0.000. DifferenttestgroupswithGroup1 and Group 2 with astatistical analysis of Independent Sample-tTest value of p=0,871 (p>0.05).The conclusions obtained were exercise programsofcontract relax stretchingand infrared with pedal exercise under compression and infrared together can decrease calf muscle pain on the stamp batik worker. There is nosignificant different between the turn combination of contract relax stretching andinfrared with pedal exercise under compression and infraredto decrease calf muscle painon the stamp batik worker.

Abstract

Low Back Pain is one of the most musculoskeletal problem. LBP can cause disability,material loss and biopsychosocial problem. The most effective management for LBP is stilldiscussing in the health practitioner and scientist between Aquatic Exercise or McKenzieExercise. The aim of this study is to prove the different between Aquatic Exercise withMcKenzie Exercise to reduce disability in Discogenic Low Back Pain patients. This studywas the true experimental control trial research, with randomized pre-test and post-testdesign. The study was conducted in Physiotherapy Clinic in Borromeus Hospital Bandungand Melinda Surgery Hospital Bandung. The samples were 19 divided into two groups.Group I with Aquatic Exercise was 9 people and Group II with McKenzie Exercise was 10people. The measuring instrument in this study was Oswestry Disability Index. Results of thehypothesis used paired t-test and independent t-test. The hypothesis test results showed thatboth of groups can reduce disability significantly with mean in Group I = 25,9248 ± 3,98214,p value = 0.001 (p < 0.05) and Group II = 16,912 ± 4,0873, p value = 0.001. And between 2groups there were significant difference with mean = 8,57193 ± 3,66789, p value = 0.032 (p< 0.05). The conclusions where both of Aquatic Exercise and McKenzie Exercise couldreduced disability significantly and Aquatic Exercise was better than McKenzie Exercise toreduce disability in Discogenic Low Back Pain patients. This study can be suggested that thisAquatic Exercise program to reduce disability in Discogenic Low Back Pain. The multicenter study should be held with longer time and much more subjects.Key

Abstract

Sprain ankle kronis merupakan overstretch pada ligamen complex lateral terjadi padapergerakan plantar fleksi dan inversi. Kelemahan ligament sebagai stabilitas pasifmengakibatkan keluhan nyeri, dan inflamasi kronis, hingga proprioceptive menurun,kelemahan otot-otot foot and ankle serta ketidakstabilan dalam melakukan aktivitas normal.kondisi-kondisi dari sprain ankle kronis menyebabkan ketidakmampuan dalam melakukanaktivitas sehari-hari sehingga menyebabkan foot and ankle disability. Tujuan dari penelitianini adalah untuk menganalisa apakah pelatihan proprioceptive menggunakan wobble boardberbeda dengan pelatihan penguatan otot ankle menggunakan karet elastic resistance dalammenurunkan foot and ankle disability pada kasus sprain ankle kronis. Metode penelitian iniadalah Eksperimental murni dengan randomized pre-test and post- test group design. Dalampenelitian ini 10 responden diberikan pelatihan proprioceptive dengan wobble board selama6 minggu dengan frekuensi latihan 3 kali seminggu, dan 10 responden diberikan pelatihanpenguatan otot ankle dengan karet elastic resistance selama 6 minggu frekuensi latihan 3 kaliseminggu. Alat ukur yang digunakan adalah foot and ankle disability indeks (FADI). Hasilanalisis statistik parametrik dengan Paired sample t-test. Hasil uji hipotesis menunjukkankedua kelompok perlakuan secara signifikan dapat menurunkan foot and ankle disability,sebelum Perlakuan pada Kelompok I dengan rerata 25,90 + 15,56 dan Sesudah Perlakuanpada Kelompok I 6,60 +5,03 nilai p=0,001(p<0,05), dan Sebelum Perlakuan pada KelompokII rerata 44,90+ 18.80 dan Sesudah Perlakuan pada Kelompok II rerata 13,10 + 10,304 nilaip=0,000 (p<0,05), sedangkan nilai sebelum Kelompok I 25,90±15,57 dan kelompok II25,90±15,57 nilai p = 0,024 (p < 0,05) ada perbedaan bermakna maka memakai data selisih.Uji beda dengan Independent sample t-test diantara ke dua Kelompok ada perbedaan yangsignifikan dengan nilai selisih Kelompok I 19,30±12,59 dan Kelompok II 31,10±12,19 dan p= 0,047 (p < 0,005). Simpulan pada penelitian ini bahwa pelatihan proprioceptivemenggunakan wobble board dan pelatihan penguatan otot ankle menggunakan karet elasticresistance ada perbedaan yang signifikan dalam menurunkan foot and ankle disability padakasus sprain ankle kronis.
