Ultrasonic Wave Characteristics of Arumanis Mangoes And Damage Arumanis Mangoes By Fruit Fly

Abstract

The objective of this research was to study the ultrasonic wave characteristic at arumanis mangoesdamage caused by fruit fly. The ultrasonic characteristics that was used to sort the damaged mangoes fromthe normal mangoes were attenuation, velocity and moment zero power (Mo) number. Results showed thatmean attenuation coefficient of normal arumanis mangoes was 36.45 Np/m, mean velocity of ultrasonicwave was 518.19 m/s and Mo number was 4.58. The mean attenuation coefficient arumanis mangoeswhich damaged by fruit fly was 30.67 Np/m, mean velocity of ultrasonic wave was 731.72 m/s and Monumber was 6.40. Relation between the ultrasonic wave characteristic with arumanis mangoes damagecaused by fruit fly showed that attenuation coefficient of arumanis mangoes was increase but damagearumanis mangoes level was decrease, while Mo number was increase in parallel with increase of damagearumanis mangoes level. The ultrasonic wave velocities of arumanis mangoes didn’t show clear correlationwith damage arumanis mangoes level, as shown by from value of r2=0.01. Larva weight of inversely tovalue of attenuation coefficient, correlation of logarithm value r2=0.94. Abstract

Abstract Lampung Province is the largest producer of cassava in Indonesia. Cassava has a weakness that is easily damaged and could not be stored longer. To overcome this, there is a need of an effective drying process so that cassava can be processed into other materials of lower power use as well as its economic value. A hybrid drying system is one solution to resolve the issue. The purpose of this research is to study the performance of drying cassava chips by using a hybrid type of dryer rack. The process of drying cassava chips made using a three-stage treatments with three replicates with the input load of 30 kg of cassava chips. The results showed that the pattern of decline in water levels in each treatment is uneven. The time needed to dry cassava chips to reach the water content of 10% - 12% in the drying of materials using sunlight for 18 hours, using electrical energy for 16 hours and use the energy of sunlight and electricity for 12 hours. The higher temperatures produced the shorter the time required in the drying process. Electrical energy required for the drying process using electric energy was 91 440 kJ and drying using electrical energy and sunlight was 68600 kJ. Abstract

The objectives of this research were to determine attenuation coefficient of arumanis mangoes, to develop border equation prediction and to validate the border equation prediction of arumanis mangoes damage caused by fruit fly using ultrasonic attenuation coefficient. The method was-based on measurement of attenuation coefficient ultrasonic wave in arumanis mangoes. Results showed that mean of normal arumanis mangoes attenuation coefficient was 36.45 Nplm and attenuation of arumanis mangoes damage caused by fruit fly was 30.67 NPlm. Border equation prediction was attenuation coefficient more than 34.76 for normal mango and attenuation less than or same 34.76 for mangoes invested by fruit fly. Abstract

ABSTRACT The objective of the research was to design and test the sorting machine of duku fruit. The sorting machine was able to sort the fruit into three grades by means of principle of inclined plane and exploiting of mechanical vibration. Machine components consist of frame, hopper, sorting rack, part of output, source of power, transmission and vibrator. Uniformity of the sorting results varied, i.e., grade A equal to 100 %, grade B equal to 50.1 % and grade C equal to 80.1 %. The average level of sorting process was 59.5 % with the working capacity of the machine of 500 kg/ hour. Diterima: 21 Januari 2007, Disetujui: 25 April 2007

Abstract

ABSTRACT The objective of this paper is to analyze measurement error of heat conductivity of organic solid waste (paddy chaf). Error analyze is to obtain accuration of the measured result. Visual Basic Applications (VBA) on excel was used in simulation. The result showed that heat conductivity of paddy chaf is 0,501 W/mK with error 0,00936 W/mK. Abstract

Number of constraints in drying of mangosteen peel came as problem in handling of the product. The hybrid drying system was chosen as an alternative to dry the mangosteen peel. The treatments performed in this research were: the rack dryer hybrid where sunlight, electric, and combination of sunlight and electric source, and as a comparison were used the para-para dryer. Combination of sunlight and electric source has the highest temperature that was 48.5 C deg. using electric source was 38.1 C deg., whereas using sunlight source was 39.6 C deg. and using para-para dryer was 33.6 C deg. Drying with combination of sunlight and electric source was the most rapid in moisture evaporation. While as a comparison was used the para-para dryer, that was the slowest one. Drying efficiency using sunlight source was 29.6%, while the drying efficiency using electric source was 51.5%, and the combination of sunlight and electric source was 28.7%. It was concluded that the hybrid dryer could be used as an alternative to dry mangosteen peel.Keywords: mangosteen peel, drying energy source, drying efficiency
